Elmo ST 180 M 2-Track Super 8mm Sound Projector - Loading & Rewinding A Film.
This is a quick guide on how to thread a film ready for projecting using the Elmo ST-180 M 2-Track Super 8mm Sound Projector followed by rewinding after the film has fully run through the projector. Apologies for the 'wobble-cam' as I was trying to hold the phone while demonstrating how to use it.

This is a guide on how to thread a film ready for projecting with the Noris Norisound 410 Super 8mm Sound Projector which is slightly different from many of the Super 8mm Sound projectors. Apologies for the 'wobble-cam' as I was trying to hold the phone while demonstrating how to use it.

This guide is on how to rewind a film after it has run all the way through the Heurtier Stereovox Super 8mm Stereo Sound Projector as I don't believe the manual is particularly clear on how to carry this out. Apologies for the 'wobble-cam' as I was trying to hold the phone while demonstrating how to use this projector.

This was the very first test of our TOFC P51 Super 8mm film stock which is specially hand processed by us to a Black & White negative then digitally reversed to Black & White positive and put on a Data Disc ready for you to edit in your video software. This stock is designed to give it a 'Battle Of Britain' aerial combat, WW2 look & feel. We do this all by hand during processing to give it a re...

We are currently testing a Super 8mm Colour Reversal Sound Film stock for release later this year. We've been experimenting with various chemical combinations, timings & temperatures to get the colours to give a slightly warm vintage look and a grain level similar to Tri-X. To complete the vintage/retro look we are also going to keep in the occasional organic watermark & defects that tends to b...

    I have this projector which I have inherited from my father. However, the film doesn't always thread properly and starts 'chewing up' the film. Any thoughts on how to rectify this?

      @theoldfilmcompany 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Peter, occasionally the threading mechanism may be faulty but usually it's down to nothing more than dodgy leader. It may be the leader has shrunk if it's very old and needs replacing but the first thing to check is make sure you are using the onboard film trimmer to trim the end of the leader. The other reason it may be intermediately chewing film is down to the curl of the leader. If the film is on 200ft (5" dia.) reels or the little 50ft (3" dia.) reels, this causes the leader to curve too much, ideally you want a nice gentle curve to the leader. Hope this helps, Rik.

      @@theoldfilmcompany Many, thanks and I'll look into what you suggested. I did wonder about buying some white leader to splice onto the films but a) I'm not sure you can still buy that and b) I don't think I have my dad's old splicing machine.

      @@petekirby9493 I stock various leader, Splicers and the required tapes. But before forking out any money check the ends of all the leader has been correctly trimmed using the onboard trimmer and make sure the leader only has a gentle curve.

      @@theoldfilmcompany I have used the onboard trimmer so don't think it's that. Will have another look though. The film threads through and past the bulb part but then goes off course just below that. So maybe it's an issue with the projector rather than the films.

      @@petekirby9493 Hi Peter, It sounds more like the leader has too tight of a curve. Carefully roll up the leader in the other direction then let go and it should have deduced the curve then try again. If this doesn't fix it then sadly the projector is probably faulty.

    Hey, so we just got one of these out of my grandfather closet. When we swith the knob to "F", it sounds like its on, but no wheels turn at all. The take up wheel should start turning right? I'm trying to figure out if we did something wrong or if it's just broken

    • @theoldfilmcompany
      @theoldfilmcompany 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, if you can hear the motor turning but the take-up reel isn't it's probably just the drive belts require replacing. If you make sure the projector is unplugged from the mains electricity then take the back off the projector you should see two drive belts. A smaller one which is called the Motor Drive Belt and the larger Upper Take-Up Belt. Either these have perished or they have stretched and need replacing.

    Try to put in another drive belt for the arm,but not a spring drive belt.I have the same Projector and I did change the drive belt,but a rubber belt.

  • @bakhok

    First you press the Handle for rewinding and then Start.

    • @theoldfilmcompany
      @theoldfilmcompany 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I agree that would be the logical way of doing it, but the manual says to start it first then press the handle down and lock it into place which make no sense really. I tried both ways, but the end results were the same it still struggled after approx. 200ft of film. I tried a new arm belt both spring and Nitrile when I stripped the projector down for restoration but didn't solve the issue unfortunately.
