I'm here to share my love of Pesticide Free backyard gardening with you. So, lets have some fun, get our hands dirty and who knows, maybe learn a few new things along the way about small town gardening in a small space.
Here are just a few of the areas we'll be covering: In ground gardening- You bet!, Raised Bed - Of Course!, Patio (in pots) - Sure Thing!. The list is just too long to go through. I guess You'll just have to subscribe to see all the fun stuff that will be covered. See You Then!

WHG: Indoor Tomatoes for the Winter
Yes, you can grow your tomatoes indoors through the winter and all you need is a sunny window.
Now I'm not saying that you will have some kind of a bumper crop, but even if you only get a few you will have had the joy and eye appeal of 'YOUR' tomato growing in that sunny window.
Oh, and please don't get me started on the taste difference between a home grown tomato and the 'Taste Of Disappointment' you get from a store bought tomato in the winter. It simply isn't a fair comparison. One has the bright taste of a tomato (no matter what type you've grown) and the other is a red wrapped mostly bag of water (of course this is My opinion and your taste may vary).
Well, enough for now.
Here's hoping that you and yours have the very best Thanksgiving.

WHG: Winter Garden 2024
มุมมอง 168หลายเดือนก่อน
This is one of my favorite times of year to garden. It's not Very Hot and there are little to no "BUGS" to either bite me or eat my plants. That's not to say that there isn't work to be done. There is weeding and culling and you must keep a weather eye out for "COLD". That would be temps in the very low 30s F or 0 C because you'll need to cover your plants to protect them from frost. Yes, there...
WHG: Root Knot Nematode Curative
มุมมอง 8502 หลายเดือนก่อน
The last vid was filled with the woes of the Root Knot Nematode and what can be done to rid your garden of those little pests 'Without' using poisons. After much research I've settled on a course of action. I have had Mr. WHG use the mower to mulch up the asparagus heads, and all of the marigolds. I found that both asparagus and marigolds are natural nematode repellents. With that in mind I've ...
WHG: Root Knot Nematode
มุมมอง 2232 หลายเดือนก่อน
Well if this isn't the ugliest thing you've seen this week I don't know what is. Most of the tomato plants in that bed seemed to be having problems this year and this was the reason why. The evil Root Knot Nematode. As I said in the video; these little devils live in the soil and are quite destructive. They weaken your plants ability to take up needed water and nutrients causing the plant to sl...
WHG: Winter Planting Beds (extend your growing season).
มุมมอง 2432 หลายเดือนก่อน
You can extend your growing season by planting cool weather crops in the Fall. Fall planting has one big benefit in that there are less bugs to attack your valuable plants/ produce. Some of my favorites that I've shown you in this video are quite easy to grow such as beets, radishes and lettuce. They mature fairly quickly and are usually my go to fall garden veggies. As promised, below is a lis...
WHG: 2023 Garden Bed Clean Up
มุมมอง 2593 หลายเดือนก่อน
Let me start by saying that Mr. WHG & I send our heart felt prayers to all those that are being affected by the aftermath of the storm. This little town here in eastern Tennessee has been cut off due to the many bridges that were blown out and one major Hwy that was cut into. I say all this so that you know that many areas were hit much, much worse; so PLEASE do what you can to help. Every litt...
WHG: Pumpkin Seed Saving Season
มุมมอง 773 หลายเดือนก่อน
Well it's that time in the growing season where your pumpkins should be getting ready to come off the vine. Now if you have grown the big Jack-O-Lantern pumpkins for this coming All Hallows Eve (Halloween). Please remember to cut them leaving plenty of stem (they will save better that way) and keep them in a Cool Dry spot. Of course, if you're just looking to seed save for next year then just f...
WHG: Cantaloupe Seed Saving
มุมมอง 863 หลายเดือนก่อน
Cantaloupe Seed Saving. . . Where to start? Well, I could start with the fact that saving GMO store bought cantaloupe seeds is like saving the seeds of depression :-) Nah! I'm just kidding. If they're the only seeds you can lay your hands on then do it. Because growing most anything in your garden is better than not. Let me assure you though. When you can get your hands on an heirloom cantaloup...

Man, (or do I mean to say Person) have Mr. WHG and I been busy. We have been working on that Home Owner's repair list for the past month and there are not enough hours in the day. . . PLUS - We're Old :-) so there. We've got a few more seed vids coming, so stay tuned for those. Thanks much to our WHG family for being so patient with me/us. WHG: Summer Squash is Growing Up Not Out
มุมมอง 2.5K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
Wasn't that some fancy editing ? Ok; it's not that awesome, but what do you expect, I'm old :-) No,. I just wanted to show you folks a before and after in one vid and that's why there was a bit of a gap in postings. The best part is that 'It Works' and that is saying something. For years now I've had to choose whether to grow Summer Squash or not. It always took up so much space I would have to...
WHG: WOW ! So the Radish went to Seed
มุมมอง 3125 หลายเดือนก่อน
Like I said this is just a little short vid, but I needed to show you what a simple radish looks like when it goes to seed. Think about it; if you have ever grown radishes before you know how small their greenery is. Maybe 4 to 6 inches high above the ground. So, when I left this lone radish in the ground just to see what it would do and to my surprise it grew to what you see here. A near 4 foo...
WHG: Garden Tour for 2024
มุมมอง 4086 หลายเดือนก่อน
Well it's finally here; the "How does your garden grow" vid and I am quite pleased with how it turned out this year. Yes; I know that the garden is a bit free-form, but I just didn't have the heart to just throw out all of my volunteers (plants that came up from last years plantings). The plan for this year was all laid out back in March. You know. . . This will go there, and that will go over ...
WHG: Redoing the Garden Fence
มุมมอง 4276 หลายเดือนก่อน
It is my hope that you find this vid useful. I mean to say that not all the stuff Mr. WHG and I do in this little micro-farm is glamorous, though it still must get done or all of God's little woodland creatures will be in here dining on all of my lovely plants. This animal netting (aka: Deer Fencing) works great. Though it only lasts about 3 years here in the northeast of TN. I can not stress i...
WHG: How to Save Money
มุมมอง 1647 หลายเดือนก่อน
I really hope this helps someone out there, because it sure made a big difference to me when I was pricing planter pots. What's with the price of things!? It is almost like there has been a down turn in the economy. . . Go Figure! Seriously though; I use the old motto "You don't have a problem. What you need is a solution". So this 'think outside the box thing' is something I try to use when I'...
WHG: Celery Seed Saving

I simply can not stress it enough. . . "Don't Spend Money on Seeds if You Don't Have To ! !" You work to hard for your money and your plants in most cases will make more than enough seeds. Just let a couple of plants go to seed at the end of their season and there you go. . . You now have FREE seeds for the next season. What could be easier? That's about it for this visit. Allow me to lead you to the 'living water'... try a simple hydroponic set up. In my office, yes - my office - Tomato's, Cayene Peppers, Steawberries, and I just setup a Zucchini. Got a little cup of Thyme, and some peppermint too! 😊
I have been thinking about hydroponics for a while now and may have to try it out soon!
Excellent 😃🎉 I subscribed to your channel 🙏
Those are some great looking plants! New subscriber! Love gardening and making videos too!
South windows are handy things to have. In Champaign we had only east and west windows, and when we had a plant, I’d come home for lunch just to carry it from the east window to the west.
Perfect. Sounds like something I'd do. Actually I still do that for my other 'not as sunny' windows.
Oh ! Very Nice! Here's hoping you have the best of luck with your tomato. And you are so right regarding the taste of store bought tomatoes 😞
❤❤❤❤❤its always great to see you ❤❤❤
Good evening late, ❤❤❤happy new year, XOXO ❤❤❤❤
Great idea, but I don’t see it has adequate ventilation windows or maybe it doesn’t show in video?
Complete soil food web will sort those out. “ sterilising” anything only provides a clean slate for the hardiest of the microorganisms, which are usually the pest and disease-causing ones. Pretty damn interesting rabbit hole- Dr. Elaine’s soil food web school. I’m sure the white hair doesn’t mean you can’t keep on learning, have fun.
How do you know so many things?
Marigolds! They are the boss of natural pest repellent
Great job
All my best with the fix.
Boy I sure hope so as well. . . Fingers-Crossed :-)
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank You
Grossss ! ! The root that is. NOT Mrs. WHG :-)
Thats a big ole girl. Great information.
❤❤❤❤❤I always enjoy your videos ❤❤❤
Thank You !
Your planting beds look so nice! Mine are a bit disheveled. I suppose I'd better get out there and clean and plant before it's too late.
I’m told it’s genetic whether a person gets a soapy taste from cilantro.
I heard that too. Luckily for me it tastes good. Poor Mr. WHG is not so fortunate. :)
Thanks for all the good ideas. I never seem to know what to grow in the early Fall. Also I do like the info regarding plants and their temps in the description. This will help a lot. . . . Oh yeah, I think the garden markers would be a great thing to offer. I'd probably order a few. Can't wait to see them.
thanks for the feedback. I think I'll go ahead and make them. :)
nice
Beautiful! Garden looks good too! Glad you’re OK!
Thank you my friend. Yes, it's been pretty rough out here. So many have lost their homes and lives. We've been very blessed.
I'm watching incredible videos on the Weather Channel. Glad you're OK. Weird question. Are you on "city water" or well water?
City water to answer your question. We use a very high end water filtering system witch keeps us safe.
witch = which :)
Nice! I was wondering if I could grow pumpkins. I didn't think I had enough room in my garden. Going to try this next year.
Garden is looking good! I bet that took a lot of work. Can't wait to hear about the cold weather crops.
Then Please Stay Tuned :-)
So glad to see that You and Mr. WHG weathered the storm and I'm looking forward to what is being planted for the winter.
Thanks for your concern and I hope to have it up real soon.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
How Sweet!
@@whitehairedgardener3883 I sent you a lot of heart, because I enjoy watching your videos and your beautiful
Praying for you. I know there is flooding in the Tennessee mountains.
Thank you. You're right; our town suffered a great deal of damage and our hospital is probably a total loss. Many people lost their homes and some their lives. Thank you for your concern.
I hope you are OK. Lots of flooding going on.
Thank you so much. Our town did have a great deal of damage. Thankfully we are on a bit higher ground and escaped the worst of it.
@@whitehairedgardener3883 I suppose it will alter your plans to move...
@@commonleadership48 probably. At least for the near future.
Pumpkin hammocks! (allusion to a certain article of clothing for a gentleman that I see advertised these days)
You don't say ! LOL
NICE! I've got a few ripe cantaloupe from my garden. I guess I'd better scoop some out for saving as well. Thanks for the reminder.
Any Time. . . Glad to be of service :-)
titts!!!!!!!!!
she should try some house cleaning
Mrs WHG good to see you back :-) Will the legend that is Mr WHG ever make an on camera appearance or is he far to shy lol😊?
He assures me that according to the Geneva Convention, He is not allowed to put his visage on film for anyone to see as it is considered. Cruel and Inhumane treatment. :-) although I consider him to be quite handsome.
It's nice to see you back in the saddle again. Great tips as per usual. Oh by the way, here's hoping the house hunt is going well. I can't wait to see the new digs.
If we find a suitable place, it will be fun to show everyone our garden/ chicken build from start to finish.
Local move or out of state? Will it change the types of crops planted and harvested?
local move. We like our small town. Would prefer a mall house with a bit more land. LOL... my garden is overgrowing my available space. :)
@@whitehairedgardener3883 if you're prepping your current home, then you already have a new place. I hope your move goes well.
cant wait for the new she back to show moving
thanks
❤❤❤so great to see you again ❤❤❤
thank you. :)
Always <3 hearing from you! All the best to you on your move!
Thanks so much! Hopefully we find something before too long. Hope all is well in your world.
Oh my...
Do you grow garlic & curry . ?
Sorry for the delay, but as I just said it has been a bit nuts. To your point: Yes I do grow them both, though I did have a weather problem with the curry. . . Way to much rain. Oh well; better luck next year I always say. Welcome to the WHG Fam.
I clicked on your video cause your hair is so stunning. I am so sick of coloring my hair, you're really giving me some inspiration, here : D. And I love gardening too. Thanks for the tips!
Sorry for the delay in responding, though it has been a bit of a mad-house around here. You are so kind. I, like you had colored my hair for . . . Well, Years. I seam to remember that it was about 6 years of just letting my hair grow out. The good news is that from start to finish it was a year before my hold head was white. Best of luck. I know you can do it. And, welcome to the family. WHG

Let me think about it. . . . mmm. . . NO ! But thanks for asking.
Glad you're back. I thought we'd lost you. It makes cense if you were going for a before and after. My hat's off to Mr. WHG. The trellis looks to be working quite well.
I missed all of you as well, but life goes on. It was my plan to do this with the squash plant and I'm glad you liked the vid. I'll pass-on your words to Mr. WHG my sure he will appreciate them.
And a belated happy 31st…
Thank you my friend. Sorry I was late in replying... it's been an 'interesting' few days. xoxo
