What does the word fluted mean when describing a baton? I know some are dimpled but I’m not sure what fluted is.
In this case, fluted means that it is flared or somewhat bell shaped...a slight outward curve, wider at one end than the other. I hope that helps!

I would like to ask you how much this stick weighs and what it is made of. I saw that some sticks have a kind of cord wrapped around the central area. What role does he have ? Thank you ! Very good demonstration !
Kim said, "Batons are made of steel. The actual weight depends in part on the length, but in general, they weigh about ½ lb. I'm not sure about the cord in the middle. I never saw that during the years I was actively twirling, but it could just be a decorative feature. I hope this helps answer your questions." ________________________________________
@@volusialibrary The baton you presented here does not have that tape glued on the middle portion, but most people use something like that. I'm trying to make something like this myself, because I can't find them here to buy, even though I know this is a hobby for girls. I really liked how this baton spins. I found in the trade thin stainless steel pipes of the best quality, with good diameters. I have to get the parts from the end and then I will start practicing, even though I am long past the age for such a thing. Thank you for your answer !

How many skiens and what size hook...
Sarah can't recall exactly how many skeins of yarn she used. She said it would all depend on how long and wide you want your blanket to be. The yarn she used was Red Heart Super Saver Ombre in the color Spearmint and it uses a 5.5mm or 6mm crochet hook. The pattern on Yarnspirations.com for a corner to corner blanket using this yarn asks for 5 skeins to complete a 45-55" blanket. Hope this helps!

Rhoda said to check with staff at craft stores such as Hobby Lobby or Michaels. They were a little hard to find, but should be were the smaller pom poms are hanging.
