This channel hopes to help preserve and showcase Zambian music from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Uploads are usually scheduled for Tuesdays and Fridays.
Zambia has a rich musical history that is sadly lost to many Zambians. By uploading music long out of print, I wish to preserve Zambia's musical legacy by making it accessible to people who may have access to the internet, but will never own a record player or be able track down any of the increasingly rare records the music was sold on.
All records posted on this channel are from my personal collection. I do not have the resources to buy the cleanest copies available so many of the records I present are worn and noisy. Still, having them online for people to enjoy is far better than them languishing in a collector's record room somewhere. If I get a cleaner copy of anything I upload, the older copy will be replaced.
I do not claim ownership of this music. All copyrights belong to their respective owners.

Peter Juma & Fire Family - Mwapola Namishanga - Full Single
Zambian music records posted Tuesdays and Fridays. From Peter Totsi Juma the friend and bandmate to Nashil Pichen Kazembe comes this single record with two songs, featuring Juma and the Fire Family Band. Peter Juma was popular enough that Teal gave him his own record label. The record is a little worn, especially on side B, but the music shines through.
Peter Tsotsi Juma (1932 - 2000), born Peter Juma was a Zambian songwriter, singer and musician. Interested in music at a young age, Juma traveled to Tanzania in 1949 in order to pursue a career in music. Juma eventually moved to Kenya to pursue further music opportunities and there met Nashil Pichen Kazembe. Together, they formed the Congo River Kids Band and later the influential The Eagles Lupopo. Juna later returned to Zambia around 1980. In 1981 he signed a record contract with Teal for whom he produced a number of singles through the 1980's. Like many Zambian artists, the 1990's saw the end of his career with the wane of the Zambian music industry. He passed away from complications of Malaria in Kabwe, Zambia in 2000.

Mike Nyoni - Wenye Ni Wanji - Full Single
มุมมอง 1K14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Zambian music records posted Tuesdays and Fridays. This one is from the very talented Mike Nyoni and among his early 1980's solo records released in 1983. This song is sung in Nyanja and likely was released shortly after Fungo La Njala (ZUKA 025). The record is a little noisy, but the music shines through. Mike Nyoni was a singer and musician who got his start with the Zamrock band Born Free. B...

Zambian Music uploaded Tuesdays and Fridays. A two song single comes to you from Teddy Chilambe. The record has some scratches, but the music is clear as a bell. Teddy Chilambe was a Zambian folk singer from the Copperbelt. Originally a miner by trade, he rose to prominence in the 1970s with appearances on Zambian television. Chilambe was a socially conscious artist who frequently used his song...

Majoza Band - Botswana Show - Full Album
มุมมอง 2.3Kวันที่ผ่านมา
Zambian Music uploaded Tuesdays and Fridays. Today features a full album, Botswana Show, by the fantastic Majoza Band. This Kalindula record has a couple rough spots, but overall is very listenable. The entire album is in Bemba. The Majoza Band formed in the mid to late 80's, released two albums and possibly some singles, then burned out at the end of the Kalindula era in the early 90's. Among ...
The Grand Eyry - Smith - Full Single
มุมมอง 28514 วันที่ผ่านมา
Zambian music records uploaded on Tuesdays and Fridays! Another Grand Eyry record and a band I know nothing about. I'm wondering if this is an anti-Rhodesia / Panafrican soliderity song, given that the name of the record is Smith and Ian Smith was the leader of Rhodesia at the time. It also mentions several other southern African countries and leaders of the time. I believe the song is in Bemba...
Labani Kalunga - Brande - Full Single
มุมมอง 92214 วันที่ผ่านมา
Zambian Music uploaded Tuesdays and Fridays. From Labani Kalunga comes a later single entitled Brande. The record is in better shape than some stuff I've shared lately. Per the record, this song is sung in Lamba, a bantu language spoken in the Copperbelt region of Zambia and in southern Congo. It's a catchy song though I suspect that the music is sped up. There were a number of artists who sped...

Zambian Music uploaded Tuesdays and Fridays. This single from the John Mwansa is credited to "Mwansa's Experiance." It's a bit rough for the first minute or so but gets better. He also released several singles under his own name. Harry MW...

This one is outside the regular schedule and is something a bit different. It's a religious music CD from Zambia. This is an album of religious music performed by choirs belonging to churches of the Lutheran Church of Central Africa (LCCA) in Zambia. Masiye Band - Dziko La Mulungu - Full Single
มุมมอง 1.1K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Zambian Music uploaded Tuesdays and Fridays. This lively single from the Masiye Band isn't new to TH-cam, though this particular label version might be. It was also released on the Kalimba label. According to music historian Leonard Koloko, the song was written by Evans Mul...
5 Revolutions - Ba Mulemena - Full Single
มุมมอง 85328 วันที่ผ่านมา
Zambian Music uploaded Tuesdays and Fridays. This single comes from the great rock and Kalindula band, The Five Reolutions. BA Mulemena is kind of a special record. It's a tribute of a then giant in Zambian music who died in 1982, Emmanuel Mulemena. The gentle reverence towards the fallen musician and bandleader is evident even if you don't understand Bemba. The record is a bit noisy, but the m...

Zambian Music uploaded Tuesdays and Fridays. This single comes from Matumbu Bwalantama Kado (aka M. B. Kado or Papa Kado) and the Lipopo band. This record actually was released as both a Lipopo Band and a M.B. Kado record. The version I have here has a label that gives top billing to Kado. Zambian Music uploaded Tuesdays and Fridays. A viewer requested a Spokes Chola record and I had one available. This single comes from the legendary blind musician and singer, Spokes Chola and the Mansa Radio Band. Ku Bowa sounds a lot like Ba Ndumba, another song on another single. Same melody, different lyrics. The record has some kind of unremovable glue on the B side, hence the thumping on t...

Good and real music 🎉
Old is good, those where old good days !!!
Keep it up 🎉🎉🎉😂
Classics from way way back. Love gjis one; the message in the song is so true. Would you happen to drop MUZAMUONA, by Jane Osborne. It appeared on her 1984 album called "Hotel Ivoire Intercontinental Presents: Jane Osborne"
@Kabvuto It looks like another youtuber, Marvin Mulenga, has put up the song. It's a great song indeed! th-cam.com/video/OgpleAV0Qf0/w-d-xo.html
This is music not the noise we are having now called music
Those were the days when we used to fukumula to this song in tarvens
And then there was this song. I don't know the last time I listened to this song. Nostalgia.
The old good days ❤
Good oldies
You've outdone yourself with this Majoza Band album...in Zambia we say "Wa Chaya apa" meaning you've hit the sweet spot!...the band was originally from Lusaka Matero township and were great concert bands... sadly most band members are now late....they defined the tail end of the Kalindula genre....been on repeat all week....keep em coming
I feel you! I've been listening to it constantly since I got it. I've been intrigued by this album for a while since I heard th-cam.com/video/Jm5ZHjNwfyE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tid3HVOGUXBGajxN - The Sound Inspectors record I posted a couple months ago. I picked up Botswana Show specifically because Clement Mubanga was involved in both, but I didn't know whether the album would live up to my hopes. It did! It seems like it was a good choice!
Music with identify ❤. Proud Zambian.
Greetings from Germany! Great sounds from way back. Would you consider dropping the song "A Mkandawire" by Paul Ngozi. Thanks in advance...
I don't have that one, but I'll put it on my list of records to look out for. I don't think it's been documented on discogs yet, so it may be a while before it turns up.
@@Lendymanlistens Much appreciated for getting back. Best Wishes in all you do...
Hello friend, what musical genre is this?

I'll look into it. Looks like Nkilanuluka is available. I've put it on my list.
Sweet old music with some wonderful messages. Felix K MHSRIP
Thank you I am an avid follower of your music uploads. Although I currently live in the diaspora, being a musician myself, I am so connected to this kind of old folk music we grew up listening to and playing with the late Tim Mvula on ZNBC. Keep it up
Gud music in good speakers continue with the same spirit.
Great music indeed. Looking forward to some more. Especially those for done in the 80s for the independence celebration like Zambia at 20. Ba KK mwabombeni pakutungulula emyeka 20
Thank you for the great music, what of bwaluka founders?? It would be well to add them to the catalogue.
I will look for a Bwaluka Founders record. It appears that they are available on the market. I've put it on my list.

There's another song done by these guys, NIWE MUTIMA WANDI, been looking for it forever. Thank you very much for this one, so nostalgic
There might be a chance I'll have a copy of this single in the next month or so. Keep an eye on this channel. If I do get it, I'll try to upload it sooner rather than later.
Awesome. Thank you for the upload

th-cam.com/video/sIWfn-rThg8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=b0_UK81QvY23ajKx It seems like the same band, can someone tell me what band it is?
It wasn't uncommon for solo artists in Zambia to work with bands. I've never seen who Mike Nyoni worked with documented anywhere. That said, I don't think they're the same band. There's some stuff they do in the song you linked that isn't typical of Zambian rumba. It's hard to make out the guy's voice, but it doesn't sound like Nyanja or Bemba. This style of music was kind of popular in the region, so it's likely you'll find other songs that sound similar from the Congo region. I think a good place to start tracking it down is to isolate the vocals as much as possible and shop the clip around to various language groups to see if anyone recognizes it.

1982/3 - I remember watching this song on TVZ. It was also a regular on radio 2, then known as general services. The message contained in this song is as true today as it was then. What an excellent song it is, with Emmanuel Mulongwe on lead vocals.
It's Evans Mulongwe!
I like this one. It almost sounds mexican.
