So real. I've started so many projects I've just never finished. From personal experience having deadlines has helped me the most to just make something. For making games I recommend doing a game jam! And you can get others involved to collaborate with without a massive long term commitment

First time I've watched one of your videos, so Hi! I've got to say first that I relate to this a lot. I've struggled with my skills and skillset not matching the desires, dreams and visions of what I want to do in my head for a long while, being able to clearly picture an awesome piece of artwork, a cool scene; then stumbling when I attempt to bring that into existence (through drawing, writing or other means) and getting frustrated at how far my actual skill level is from where it needs to be to bring that image about. I have had to accept that if I want to be true to myself, I'm going to have to make changes to build up the things I want to be good at and do my best to stick to them; time to write, draw and just have fun making something. I'm not super disciplined by default, but I have found that starting small really did make a difference for building the habit and I find myself being able to do an hour (or two, split throughout the day if I have time) of drawing for about a month now. it's not much and I wish I was as good as I want to be already, but I'll get there and I think you'll get to where you need to be too, just take things step by step, do your best and don't beat yourself up, I believe in you! 💪

Damn this really hit on a personal level

Instead of a great big project, what i like to do is make mockups. Imaginary games, as that artist mentioned. I give myself the restraints of rogmaker2003 size. So 320x240 resolution, with a character thats 24x32 or smaller. Once I started giving myself limitations i got way more ideas. Terrence mckenna once talked about how hes surprised artists arent afraid of the blank canvas. Since there's infinite possibilities its like the start of a psychedelic trip, it could go so many different ways. But people like us ARE afraid of a blank canvas. Write down all your ideas, even if its transcribed poorly, and give yourself some strong limitations to work in. Like make a painting with ultramarine blue and burnt umber only. Write a page with no letter e. Make a world in rpgmaker, whatever it is. Even if you just end up scribbling on a page, you gotta break this ice sheet in front of you , to get movin ^^

You ever ask yourself “what does creativity mean to me?”

In my opinion creativity isn't something you can have. Its a byproduct of organizing your ideas, actually executing them, and learning from mistakes and feedback. That process has to be continuously practiced. Overtime you can get better at recognizing ideas that have potential. One thing I like to do is write down every idea then revisit it after some time and make a pro/con list for them. I hope this helps.

I felt that I'm in front of a mirror

You sound like the voice in my head. I think if I (you) had an accountability buddy, I (you) would achieve a lot of things. Lately I've been pushing myself to create for purpose, and it kind of works, but not enough. My biggest problem is that I lose interest in long term projects, and excited by the prospect of creating something impossible in a very short period of time.

I am going to give some actual advice as i dont like how people are only telling you to get a adhd dignosis and use adhd meds as i can tell you they may make somethings better they will make your problem worse, i used to have the same issue but the way i got out that rut was, i took a day break, then i decided to try something new every day or few days (like comic, fake game art, speedpaints ect), until i found the stuf i enjoyed then i made a list, and i developed those intrests. And with motivation honestly as i said find something you enjoy!

you should really get evaluated for adhd, the spectrum, etc. something even as simple as a chemical imbalance can completely throw your motivation and learning potential out the window. i feel like i'm in the same boat as you, and i am pursuing a psych eval soon. maybe you should soon too!

you sound like me a few years ago when i didn’t have my adhd meds hhahah. Not an excuse but a reason! (worth getting it checked out) I’d try kick the comparing thing as early as you can, you don’t know the lives and brains of the people you’re in awe of, you’d be shocked how many successful artists with ‘identity’ secretly struggle and hate themselves and compare themselves to other artists. it’s an endless vicious cycle for everyone but we keep doing it because of the rare moments when it feels good🤧🤣 I hope you stumble upon your niche, youll get continually excited about something eventually dude. keep it up

I'm not creative and i don't care to become so. But. My guess is you are trying to be "original". Take someone else's idea and expand on it instead. Amateurs copy. Professionals steal. Before you knew what an apple was, you couldn't imagine it. You couldn't be original with the concept of an apple because you didn't know what it was. Now you know what an apple is. Turn that thing into the coolest apple (like, mix the idea of apples and cacoons and inter dimensional travel and anime god characters. Suddenly you have a whole world to build on). Creativity isn't about making ideas from scratch. It's about taking what's there and making it something else. Nobody that has original ideas made them from scratch. Those "original" ideas are the product of taking one thing that was already there, mixing it with something else and turning it into something completely different. Don't create something from nothing. Create something from someone else. The fun of creativity is seeing what you end up with and that can provide you with motivation. Detach yourself from your ideas and let them become what they will. Not a reflection of you, but rather something outside of you. Just my $0.02

Really glad to see people still play this game it's really a fun little one, having to focus on so much details if you letting the right people in or not, and the game progressivly giving you more and more stuff to look out for, can't wait for you to continue the game!!! ^^
