South Mountain Phoenix Arizona
Working and flying when I can. Here's what trucking and paragliding looks like. South mountain is a mountain south of Phoenix. It's a drive up site so taking an Uber is the smart thing to do. Gave the driver a big tip for driving me up a mountain!

Paragliding Section 16 with the guy's. Tuesday before work did a hike and fly first thing in the morning. Hit the trailhead at 9 and at launch by 10. Day was high wind and not much for xc potential but still a good time. Just a sledder and good exercise
Flying 10 year old gear off Cove

Paragliding is lots of fun! Flying 10 year old gear off of cove. Harness is a Eltirando 3 reversible harness with a Mac Para Eden 3. Eden is my favorite thermalling. This wing never kicks you out and never spins in lift. I've actually flown the swing and competitions. It wasn't fast but it stayed high and competed all tasks. Didn't win but getting to the finish line is a good thing.

Second flight of the day. On this flight I was on my Rush with BV1 harness. I was a little optimistic on this flight but nothing too great. Watching pilots all day and the lift was way out front. Hill wasn't working great. Just before launching there was a gaggle of 5 just in front of the LZ. I had the thought in my head to get out there with some altitude and see if it worked. sucks to do that...
How does one learn how to do this? It looks fun
I think instead of cutting all those holes in my truck box, I'll have my exhaust and combustable air intake come out the fear of my camper wall so it comes out with the camper.
@@PainterD54 Good idea. It's good to keep the fuel level or higher with the fuel pump. The pumps don't do too well pulling fuel from low down. Just a heads up. My set-up is a full time rig. Been great fun for the past five years. Heat is a game changer for sure. 5 gallon water tank with sprayer is another great addition on. Great for washing and cleaning up.

Where was the fighting?
@@McShakyFPV fighting to stay up on the hill. Working different parts of the hill to find adequate amount of lift. Lost the fight to the mountain and ended up landing. I'll put in a better fight next time. Boulder is a challenging component and often wins
@ I agree. I flew at NCAR until I got into a fight with the Park Ranger for Boulder, who said drones are not allowed to fly there. I’ve looked at every county and city Drone law for Boulder. I can find and I can’t see where he had the authority to kick me out. There’s even a drone club at NCAR.

@@carlcolorado3549 also where did you do your free flight training
@GabrielManzanero I started out paramotoring. It's a lot of fun to travel around with a paramotor and explore new places. My favorite thing to do is climb up 3,000 feet and shut the motor of and just go on glide.

If you take some dikes and snip the plastic screen off the intake. Leave the ring part. It holds the clamshell together. It will blow like 400% more air into the truck. A guy on TH-cam makes a bracket for Toyota to mounting the heater in that space outside of the bed you might like. Great job. I like it.

What is the beeping ? I'm unfamiliar with paragliding.
@@PileofBrass beeping is the best sound for gliding. It's a vario, an instrument that indicates lift. When a glider hits rising air he gets to fly longer. The goal of the game is to stay in rising air as long as possible so you can sky out! Once a pilot finds a thermal it helps us track the speed of lift. The faster the beeps the stronger the lift

@@chilli8364 GoPro has a setting that cancel out wind noise. Think it cancel out the videation noise of the wing. Basically the upper part of the opening were fluttering. This is probably brought on by being packed so long and sitting in the garage 😂
I like the quiet “oh f me” 😆. That was tricky evening for launches.
@@chilli8364 This day was pretty crazy. A lot of people were getting plucked off of launch. Even after getting plucked still have to fly the wing. Thought I did pretty good controlling the wing on my back
@@carlcolorado3549 Definitely! I had to try to inflate twice before a smooth launch that evening. 😂 Luckily, by that time, I had dragged my wing so close to the lift band the third one was super easy …just like back on the mesa: inflate, run forward, correct angle, and hang on (because wing is going somewhere and ur going too 😜).

I learned to fly here back in 1990 or 91... A good beginner's hill but never an easy place to climb out.
@@wtpfeffer Climbing out is always a great achievement at Boulder Hill.
Im impressed! For me though, i need a motor and throttle. Its the same reason i don't ride horses... they have a brain which makes them in control. Paragliding is similar in the fact your at the mercy of mother nature.

Is there any reason why you couldn't install the annoying fuel pump outside the vehicle?
@@matthewmarkjohnson That could be possible. There's some benefits of having it inside. Once the sleeping area is full of blankets and all other gear you barely hear the ticking sound. But I know when the heater stops working when the tics stop. My first heater would cut off then the battery under the hood of the truck got too cold. I learned quickly that it's better to keep the battery under the bed where it can keep warm.
@@matthewmarkjohnson Plus the camera picks up on high pitched noise. The tics really aren't as load as in the video

Am I wrong thinking that right after take off you're using ridge lift? How high does the standing wave reach. When are you out of ridge and into thermal?
Yes, after launching there maybe ridge lift. Over the years I have learned to use the thermals. Ridge lift is not as reliable to climb up at high. It's more of a game of chance and an easy way to sink out. Great technique to know is when you find Left just fly straight out and you'll find the body of the thermal. Not a fan of just riding the ridge. It's more for new pilots
Very very nice! I definitely want to try this launch. Can you remind me, what direction is best?
@@NelsonsWings believe south is the directions that comes up the face
Do you feel the lift before the beeper goes off?
@@youtubemademecreateanewcha6965 Yes. The glider is always going down at 150 feet per minute. This is normal glide descent for a glider. Rising air will feel like your car going over a speed bump or going up in an elevator. You'll know when you're in rising air. To take it up a level. The brake toggles you can feel if the rising air is hitting the left or right side of the wing. This will let me know to circle left or right to catch the thermel
So, the little beeper is to let you know when you're in thermal?
@@chadzulu4328 Yes. Feeling out the thermal, you can feel it pick you up. Like the beginning part of riding in an elevator. Once the elevator starts moving you don't feel left. Listening to the beeps you'll know you are still in lift and how fast you're being lifted.
@@carlcolorado3549 Ahh kk. Thanks!
Carl, you were all over both lanes! Tighten up there fella😂
