Paragliding Section 16 with the guy's. Tuesday before work did a hike and fly first thing in the morning. Hit the trailhead at 9 and at launch by 10. Day was high wind and not much for xc potential but still a good time. Just a sledder and good exercise

Flying 10 year old gear off Cove
มุมมอง 59321 วันที่ผ่านมา
Paragliding is lots of fun! Flying 10 year old gear off of cove. Harness is a Eltirando 3 reversible harness with a Mac Para Eden 3. Eden is my favorite thermalling. This wing never kicks you out and never spins in lift. I've actually flown the swing and competitions. It wasn't fast but it stayed high and competed all tasks. Didn't win but getting to the finish line is a good thing.

Big flight off Mt Monroe in Utah. Launched Monroe and flew over Cove to the end of the mountain range. Flight started off in a 9 mph head wind which took quite some time to get across the mountain range. Coming back to Monroe was a breeze.

Second flight of the day. On this flight I was on my Rush with BV1 harness. I was a little optimistic on this flight but nothing too great. Watching pilots all day and the lift was way out front. Hill wasn't working great. Just before launching there was a gaggle of 5 just in front of the LZ. I had the thought in my head to get out there with some altitude and see if it worked. sucks to do that...

Testing a used ALTIRANDO 3 that I bought off a friend. Thought it would be fun to pull out the old Mac Para Eden 5. loved this wing back when I weighed 265 lb! I'm currently 215 now and way underweight for this wing. I used this wing back when I was paramotoring and it was perfect for the time. Now I have to fly with extra weight to use this wing. I definitely want to get into paragliding. Add that to my paramotor hobby
@@paramotoringdublingeorgia6997 you can paragliding with a motor wing. Just fly with your trims in. Everything is the same just no motor. Recommend trying a small hill to get the feel of your wing.

Seems like the ol’ girl did pretty well. I didn’t see the leading edge vibrating though. Did I miss it?
@@chilli8364 GoPro has a setting that cancel out wind noise. Think it cancel out the videation noise of the wing. Basically the upper part of the opening were fluttering. This is probably brought on by being packed so long and sitting in the garage 😂
I like the quiet “oh f me” 😆. That was tricky evening for launches.
@@chilli8364 This day was pretty crazy. A lot of people were getting plucked off of launch. Even after getting plucked still have to fly the wing. Thought I did pretty good controlling the wing on my back
@@carlcolorado3549 Definitely! I had to try to inflate twice before a smooth launch that evening. 😂 Luckily, by that time, I had dragged my wing so close to the lift band the third one was super easy …just like back on the mesa: inflate, run forward, correct angle, and hang on (because wing is going somewhere and ur going too 😜).
i live in monroe and its cool to see from this view thanks for sharing

Come on baby!!! Let’s do the TWIST!!
I learned to fly here back in 1990 or 91... A good beginner's hill but never an easy place to climb out.
@@wtpfeffer Climbing out is always a great achievement at Boulder Hill.
Im impressed! For me though, i need a motor and throttle. Its the same reason i don't ride horses... they have a brain which makes them in control. Paragliding is similar in the fact your at the mercy of mother nature.
Should checkout the power of mother nature in this video th-cam.com/video/Y8E8tOpwxMQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1TGZMdhD9S10EMCg
Is there any reason why you couldn't install the annoying fuel pump outside the vehicle?
@@matthewmarkjohnson That could be possible. There's some benefits of having it inside. Once the sleeping area is full of blankets and all other gear you barely hear the ticking sound. But I know when the heater stops working when the tics stop. My first heater would cut off then the battery under the hood of the truck got too cold. I learned quickly that it's better to keep the battery under the bed where it can keep warm.
@@matthewmarkjohnson Plus the camera picks up on high pitched noise. The tics really aren't as load as in the video
@@matthewmarkjohnson This video shows more on how it was installed. Much better heart. I've had no problems with this one up in the mountains th-cam.com/video/ORKZtXvjs7g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=m-U8Br2cItFNVaSc
Am I wrong thinking that right after take off you're using ridge lift? How high does the standing wave reach. When are you out of ridge and into thermal?
Yes, after launching there maybe ridge lift. Over the years I have learned to use the thermals. Ridge lift is not as reliable to climb up at high. It's more of a game of chance and an easy way to sink out. Great technique to know is when you find Left just fly straight out and you'll find the body of the thermal. Not a fan of just riding the ridge. It's more for new pilots
Very very nice! I definitely want to try this launch. Can you remind me, what direction is best?
@@NelsonsWings believe south is the directions that comes up the face
Do you feel the lift before the beeper goes off?
@@youtubemademecreateanewcha6965 Yes. The glider is always going down at 150 feet per minute. This is normal glide descent for a glider. Rising air will feel like your car going over a speed bump or going up in an elevator. You'll know when you're in rising air. To take it up a level. The brake toggles you can feel if the rising air is hitting the left or right side of the wing. This will let me know to circle left or right to catch the thermel
So, the little beeper is to let you know when you're in thermal?
@@chadzulu4328 Yes. Feeling out the thermal, you can feel it pick you up. Like the beginning part of riding in an elevator. Once the elevator starts moving you don't feel left. Listening to the beeps you'll know you are still in lift and how fast you're being lifted.
@@carlcolorado3549 Ahh kk. Thanks!
Carl, you were all over both lanes! Tighten up there fella😂
@@wrcummings That road is an interesting road. It's slopped and you can hold a glide for about a mile. I was pumping the brakes to disrupt the glide. My new junction video. This was the landing at the end of the video. Beautiful place to fly!
What is the beeping?
@@alaskabarb8089 Beeps are signaling lift. The Vario will beep when you are gaining altitude. The faster the beeps the faster I am being lifted. This video I was hitting huge thermals and getting ripped into the air. Fun and scary flight

Glad you didn't come down in the road or on someone's house. Don't fly over cities/towns/villages.
Very nice Carl. I was wondering if you ever are concerned with gaining much altitude and then finding yourself in strong winds aloft pushing you where you don't want to go?
@@nanotech2691 No, not really. I get where I need to go no problem
How brutal was the hike up Mt Herman with all that extra weight? Thank you for sharing. I'd love to try this myself one day. By the way did you see the warning at the top about only doing this kind of thing on Sunday?
Would love to do this. I'm assuming there is some kind of training and certification to be able to solo paraglide?
Well, yes and no. I'm self-taught but I would recommend getting training from an instructor. You'll learn more and not waste your time figuring it out. Most training takes a week and you're off flying. Plus people in your local site will help you as well. Videos I make just show what's possible and maybe someone can learn something 😉

Back in Boulder again, eh? How’d the day go?
Ahh, Boulder. Nice! I've watched so many videos of flying at this place! When I was just a P1 I used to watch the videos that this guy would make and it was the time first even heard of a vario cuz he had this beeping while he was flying. I keep saying I need to get up there and fly the spot. But it's kind of out of the way of the other places I go to. I'm wondering, do you think there's any chance it might work after Red Rocks? Maybe I could hit it on the way back till El Paso. Have you had the porosity checked on that wing? Measured the trim?

Nice climbs! It's been smoky down here too.
@@NelsonsWings The climbs were pretty fast at 450 feet per minute. I was surprised for how strong the lift was for a smoky day. I actually had to find an area of sink and spiral down to land. If I didn't have to work I would have loved to go XC. Just go until I can't go anymore
