Particle-based interpolation of holes in scroll surface.
Part of my contribution to the Vesuvius Challenge is a way of interpolating over holes in surfaces using flatness constraints implicit in a particle model of a flat surface.

Fourchem - chain of events
มุมมอง 1233 ปีที่แล้ว
Glider entering from lower right at 6 seconds triggers a chain of several merging, splitting and rearrangement events. Some merging events seem to happen easily - why?
Artificial chemistry with 4 atom types : fourchem
มุมมอง 2183 ปีที่แล้ว
A spatial artificial chemistry with four atom types: insulator, exciter, wire, thruster. Overlapping atoms repel, neighbouring atoms attract, nearby atoms repel. Starting from a randomly generated state, molecules form and interact with each other: joining, splitting and rearranging. More details and source code at: github.com/WillStevens/fourchem

Divide by 3 circuit using homemade relays
มุมมอง 2227 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my second attempt at making a divide by 3 circuit. The copper contacts make these relays more reliable and have a lower contact resistance than the relays used in my earlier attempt. Sodium bicarbonate snubber capacitors are used across the coils of relays B and F. The circuit is clocked by an oscillator made from off-the-shelf relays and capacitors. The supply voltage is 13V. Peak curr...

A relay oscillator driving a toggle flip flop
มุมมอง 6457 ปีที่แล้ว
Until now I've been using oscillators made from off-the-shelf relays for driving other relay circuits. This video shows an oscillator made from homemade relays driving a toggle flip flop.
A simple SPST relay oscillator
มุมมอง 5687 ปีที่แล้ว
The capacitor charges through the 33 ohm resistor. When it is charged the relay contacts close, discharging the capacitor and causing the contacts to reopen, starting the next cycle.
Divide by 2 flip flop made from copper-contact relays
มุมมอง 1917 ปีที่แล้ว
Three SPST relays and one DPST relay are used to make a toggle flip flop. Vibration in the moving part of the relay causes undesirable behaviour from around 14 seconds in this video - the moving part needs to be damped somehow.
Testing an SPST relay with copper wire contacts

The magnetic parts of this relay (i.e. coil and moving nail) are similar to some of my previous designs, but the contacts are now separate.
First attempt at a divide by 3 circuit
มุมมอง 1278 ปีที่แล้ว
It works for a few operations. One of the relays occasionally remains on when it should turn off.

It really frustrated me when it got so close to the second bit of food but then retracted and spread out to the third bit. It was like watching a race hahah
DNA polymerases and replisome: good job little one!
Amazing 👏
It is not the "higher mind" that guides the directed growth of the fungus. To understand this, it is necessary to imagine a bee colony or a swarm of ants. The “CONSCIOUSNESS” of a higher-level lives on a specially enlarged body (queen bee) of the uterus, which leads the whole family as one organism. The fungus has the same thing, only its consciousness directs more primitive living organisms, therefore it is at a lower level than that of the bee family. And there are energy egregors that live on human organisms…

Looks like they're communicating back and forth to find food. Interesting

Does anyone know if walmart will sell these anytime soon?
I was reading total meditation and it lead me here. Not mad, quite content.
Wow... Me too! I just now reached the page and got curious to see what is it actually,😅
Welp this got recomanded. Like befo this hits sum views!
Amazing! Three questions. How many turns you need to achieve decent force, what was the voltage and what was the copper wire width (looks very small like 0.5 mm)?
2150 turns of 40swg copper wire, the relays would generally operate at about 6V. More details are in the project logs here: hackaday.io/project/11914-relayreprap
@@cqd212 40SWG seems to be 0.122mm - even thinner than I thought. Thanks for the info and link - keep the good work!
One more question. How much current go through the coil when it stabilize the magnetic field? I read that when magnetic field is stabilized the coil doesn't have much resistance. In other words the resistance is only when magnetic field is building up. I want to build D latch from relays to store one bit of data (experiment for kids). Assuming 100 mA per one active coil very quickly you can reach big currents :/ In short: How much current goes thought coil at 6V?
It’s always about 100ma, it doesn’t change much. I didn’t ever try thinner wire, but I think the current could be reduced by using more turns of thinner wire.
Wow man - this is exactly what I was looking for! Relays made out of nails. I want to build flip flop to store one bit of data and show that to my kids :)
i arrived here from your self-replication #3 video. this is such wonderful work! what is this one, exactly? i have never seen anything quite like it. it looks agent based but i can't intuit much about the rules of the system...
Thanks, there’s a more detailed description here: srm.org.uk/papers/nodespaper.pdf
uh so.. 2 and a half days in 9 mins? That's 3600 mins in 9 mins I think... that's 400 mins per min or 400 seconds per second I think. So x400 speed is the answer I was looking for xD
so surreal
Relays have contacts; that's not a relay!
The thing on top of the motor is a solenoid. The thing with a copper wire coil sitting on the desk is a relay. More details about the project this was part of are here: hackaday.io/project/11914-relayreprap

any idea to do something about latching relays
I haven’t tried making a device that will maintain its state when power is removed, but I think that the gravity powered motor (an escapement mechanism activated by a solenoid) could be used as the basis for this: m.th-cam.com/video/h_mYq77j97U/w-d-xo.html I have made a single-throw toggle flip flop using reed relays, and also homemade single throw relays. These videos contain circuit diagrams: m.th-cam.com/video/rHlqTrqLz-c/w-d-xo.html m.th-cam.com/video/ii5rniBqGHU/w-d-xo.html More details about all of these can be found in the project logs here: hackaday.io/project/11914-relayreprap
@@cqd212 i thinkits better if somthing like this " th-cam.com/video/2vnsXrmVDB0/w-d-xo.html" combined with your 3d printed relay mechanism
I was a bit sad that it didn't have a straight line connecting the four
But didn’t it conform to the shape of a branch or root, the types of environments that it might have seen before this situation?
Someone here from kurzgesagt?
Yes, I wanted to see a real life clip as well.
Is this an example of breadth first search?
This one was pretty dumb

This is just Yellow Temperance from jojo
Reminds me of an escapement in a pendulum clock.
Looks like a battery powered motor.
The escapement mechanism is moved by a solenoid powered by a battery, but the motor shaft is powered by a descending weight (water bottle)

Interesting that the slaimmold chose the 3. object first than the 4. and finally the closest.
This is exactly what I imagine “Space Exploration” to be like. Say Earth is the nucleus of Physarum polycephalum and each food is another viable planet thousands or millions of miles away. Yup... space exploration is going to be tough.
