    I'm somewhat confused regarding the placement of the 1/8" hole drilled into the thermostat... shouldn't the added hole be positioned at the TOP of the thermostat rather than at the bottom?

  • @troywiler
    @troywiler 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Please elaborate regarding the "5/8 piece of round stock". What is "round stock", what is it made of, and how long of a piece did you use please?

    • @gvmcrae
      @gvmcrae 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@troywiler Troy all you need is a piece of 5/8 Steel the cheapest thing you can find take a 5/8 grade 2 bolt and cut it down to about a inch or so just so that you can put it in the hose and put a worm clamp over it to keep it from movin. If you shove it in there probably wouldn't move anyway. I recommend drilling on eighth of an inch hole in the center of it maybe you could go a little bigger if you thought it was necessary but I don't think any more than an eighth of an inch is necessary. You're just trying to restrict the flow so you don't develop an air pocket behind the thermostat

    Sorry I'm not very fast about getting back and looking at comments. I always stop first and talk to the police officer and find out what's going on he wanted to look in the car as soon as possible so I just uprighted it. And then while he was looking in the car I'm getting the paperwork gave me time to go turn around and get in position. Also there's a lady there that was trying to help and wanted to pick up stuff. When it comes to winch them on you always want the wheel that is stuck. The other Wheels on the driver side rolled freely and guided the car onto the bed as long as you're pulling it from the snatch block at the corner of the back of the bed. You take a look at it again and you'll see the direct line from the snatch block through the cable to the crippled right rear wheel and the straight line just about to the right front that the wheel was torn completely off. A lot of resistance on the right side of the car and no resistance on the left side. Always tell my guys to look at your line of force and your resistance that need to be overcome. Thanks for your comment !

    Why didn't you turn your truck around in the first place and work from there on one side that's what the snatch block is for but if you put the strap on the other wheel might work better to move the car over or put two straps on then use the snatchblock

    Good to hear you mention the learning lesson, I am in this exact situation right now, ALTHOUGH this truck is just very slow starting, it winds over for 5-6 seconds and when it fires it’s as if the supply pump has to catch up again before the engine fully runs smoothly. in Australia it is $1900 for the gear pump, I done what you did, it seems fine but I did take the head off the injector pump, and noticed the pumping pins weren’t fully pushed out, that together with the computer showing how slow it builds pressure, fairly comfortable buying the gear pump, your video has given me a little reassurance!

    The hose that goes underneath the manifold is actually one of the hoses that come off the heater core. And the other hose from the heater core goes directly into. The the Thermostat housing. That bypass pipe has 2 little. Male ends that attach to the manifold with a little piece of 2 inch. Long Hose and those are located Write above the thermostat housing. It is a very weird system and very difficult to work on this motor. No, you might just want to check the oil.The reason why the upper head gasket has a tendency to go out on these and It is possible that it has a pinhole through the gasket.And look , the coolant pressure will go into the oil. That is probably why you're having the problem that you are. But yes, it is something very difficult to explai.Wish I could attach some pictures for you. Thank you for your video.

    I have a 95 y/o hard of hearing mother in independent living with a Cingular flip phone. "Someone" constantly turns down her phone and we cannot reach her, or if we can (the ringtone was loud enough) "someone" must have turned down the call volume to mute (with the exact same volume rocker switch serving two purposes she cannot comprehend) because she cannot hear us talk (even if she figures out how to turn on the speaker phone). Will give this a try as she NEVER needs to turn down the volume for either purpose.

    Can't agree more about roling back the mileage on oil changes especially with none deleted engines. Mine is completely deleted and my oil changes are every 5k miles and fuel filters every 10k. Air box as needed. Also i got rid of the stock air filter way back as I felt it two restritive. I went with an S&B kit huge change in preformance. The stock air filter really choked the engine down. What what you said about gunk and soot in the engine is true. I don't know how the manufacture could sell a vehicle with a system what I can say the sole purpose is to sabotage the longevity of the engine. These new engines with proper filters and oil changes are 500k engines and you can aquire an increase of 30%+ along with proper tunns. I found that tunners straight from the factory set at stock will give some extra HP. But the low boost fuel seems to high. Mine was set at 3 out of a setting of 5. lowerd it to a setting of 2 now on lift off I see zero black smoke and the tail pipe is quite dry. So I can say with confidence that with the added 30%+ fuel economy that emissions have dropted equily. I would argue that with a truck past warranty with all its failed science projects in place will produce = emissions if not better

    Screw this process... If I have to buy a cut-out kit and some kind of special joint, I'm either going to let a shop replace my joints or buy a new shaft for my 2004 - which of course is exactly why Ford did this in the first place. C-clip U-joints have never been a problem in the many DECADES they've been in service but Ford found a way to chimp-out and make the simplest task far more difficult and expensive. Shame on you Ford! PS: I looked up a U-joint on O'Reilly's and they do list U-joints for a 2004 F150... but I'm wondering if it's wider than the Ford kit so you don't have to use those spacers? A Spicer joint is around $35. Thank you for the video! Very informative. I don't care for any music in an informational video - but that's just my personal preference.

The things you pointed out about the coolant flow from the top Heater pipe 7:39 (the Thermostat Coolant bypass pipe), was very helpful. I have a 2004 Buick Rendezvous, which has the same engine, it's had overheating problems, but not severe. You explained the coolant lines far better than the service manuals do. Thank you. Great video! You just explained everything I am going through with my 1991 Chevy Kodiak. The gearbox is no longer sold. I had to send the gearbox to Cardone to rebuild via Rock Auto Parts, which helped with the excess steering play. Next, I replaced both front shocks. Then I had an alignment and the alignment man installed the shims on the axle. Next, I replaced the front steer tires and old split rims. I am at an 85% solution at this point. I am still trying to figure out what to do aside from replacing the kind pins. The death wobble is gone, but I still have too much play with the steering wheel.

    I have an 89 international s1900 single axle dump truck. Runs great and steering is good but maybe a little loose when going straight down the road. Occasionally i get a little shudder in the steering wheel when loaded with rock and braking hard. I think the leaf springs are getting tired like you mentioned and changing the camber out of spec when braking putting extra weight on the front axle and springs. All my brake shoes look good and are adjusted properly. Have you seen this before?

    • @gvmcrae
      @gvmcrae 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neal, I think you meant to say you believe the caster is changing not the camber. The camber won't change on a solid front axle unless you bend it. So I would think you should see about shimming it like I did but use new U-boats also u bolts that have been stretched may not tighten up correctly and are always at a risk of breaking. If your springs are dearching under heavy braking you might want to consider new ones but if they look in good shape otherwise I would put a shim in there. You can actually check your springs front and back of the axle by finding a spot equal in distance from the axle and maybe at least two or three of the spring leaves wrap masking tape around them tightly and then take it for a right road test on a straight road hit the brakes hard when it's safe to do so and then go back and see if the masking tape breaks. Leaf springs do slide against each other slightly as they go up and down with the load but this little test will give you some insight as to how good they are.

    • @NealORussa
      @NealORussa 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gvmcrae do you also have an easy way to check toe? I was going to try just pulling a steel tape across for now on forward edge of rim and back edge of rim and see what I got. Is it normal to have 1/8"' toe in or what would you consider normal?

    • @gvmcrae
      @gvmcrae 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NealORussa all we ever use on our trucks is a tape measure. We go to the tread as long as you go the same place on the front and back and maybe 10 in off the floor front and back you're going to be very accurate. Typically we like to see a 16th to 1/8 toe in. There's always a little tiny bit of slack in your joints and since the tires are trying to fight each other all the time it's better to have them towed in slightly. If you toe any vehicle out especially a truck you will see it wanders each tire tries to find its own way outside the travel direction. We actually have a truck tow gauge but we never use it. Just a good tape measure and two guys in the same spots

    Hi. I don't follow why you were worried about the gap? As long as the u-joint isn't worn won't the caps tighten down in proper alignment? After watching this, i squeezed the straps a slight amount then i used a belt sander to take metal off the heal of the straps where the bolt holes are (couldn't work on u-joint with caps in place). Seems to have tightened the caps .
