@nickjamison phase alignment has a lot more to do with amp settings, mic, placement, preamp used, and other variables. Two amplifiers are not inherently in phase or out of phase, it’s all of the other variables that make the difference. Captures that are in phase need to be engineered and chosen carefully.

Good question. When I put delays and reverbs before amplifiers, it’s intentional so that the delay and reverb effects will saturate into the feel and sound of the amp. If I want a more polished sound with less impact from delay and reverb, I would choose to place them after the amplifier. In some cases, I prefer putting the delays before the amps, and the reverbs after. These are all different ways to shape tone. And the cool thing is, there’s really no wrong or right in these scenarios. Just what sounds and feels best to the player and listener🤠👊🏻

That varies a little with each modeler. The quad cortex is at unity when the master volume is all the way up, but that’s different than gain at the outputs. Output level on the quad cortex above -8 dB or so actually starts audibly clipping. I would use the point right before audible clipping as the maximum output for whatever modeler you are playing. Another issue with playing to the point of clipping is that you lose some of the headroom in the unit.

@luckmarkboy thanks for taking your time to share and for following my content. I love amps and pedals too. When I plug my quad cortex into a good set of studio monitors and subwoofer, I can get the same sensation as a real amplifier. I haven’t tried any good FR solutions yet, though. I’m sure it will take something pretty special to top the feeling of a real tube amplifier that is cooking right behind you.

This amplifier capture has a ton of headroom, just like the amp. My favorite captures of this amp are right on or just past the edge of break up, but these captures can take a lot more if you want to boost them with overdrive or distortion pedals.

Thanks for the compliment @tungsoltube 🙏🏻 I’ve tried a ton of AC amps over the years but this one just has something extra special going for it… and the silverbells are definitely part of it! FWIW, it feels even better than it sounds. The QC does such an incredible job at emulating both the sound and feel of this amp.

The R84 is one of my favorite mics too… tons of detailed lows, something magical in the mids and a lot of high end extension. I love blending in other dynamic and large diaphragm microphones, but if I could only choose one on this particular amplifier, I would choose the R84 as well!

Hey Brian… nice to meet you! The QC does not sum to mono, but in many cases in a live situation when one might be plugging in stereo, FOH engineers will sometimes sum the two signals back to mono. For instance, at my church, almost all our guitarists prefer to run their rigs in stereo, but some of our FOH guys prefer to mix guitars in mono, so they will pan both stereo signals on top of each other. In many cases, this brings up a significant phase cancellation issue that makes the summed guitar signal sound very unnatural. For this reason, I am careful to pair captures together that will play nice in this scenario. There are also some phase settings in the splitter on the Quad Cortex that can help address this issue. If you play with just one out, then you will not have this issue, but you are effectively only sending out one side of your stereo patch to the front of house. As long as you are not using any ping pong delays or effects that move back-and-forth between left and right, you should have no issues running the way you are running it! If you are wanting to blend two amplifier paths back into one, you would need an aftermarket device at this point to make sure both sides of your signal are making it through to the front of house.

For a very low cost, this is a device I have used for summing two stereo signals back to one. I come out of my Quad cortex with both channels into this device, and then one signal from this device to the front of the house. Though I normally don’t run just one channel to front of house, I keep one of these passive summing pedals on hand in case I need to: saturnworkspedals.com/product/summer-mixer-pedal/
