This is my 3rd (and hopefully last) version of this great tune. It was brought to my attention that my 2nd version could cause problems for those sensitive to fast-flashing pictures, so I incorporated the same pics into this one but removed the flashing during the lyrics. Performed by "The Irish Rovers."

Tim was a brick layer who was an alcoholic. He fell off a ladder and hit his head and was knocked unconscious. They thought he was dead so they had a wake for him. A fight broke out and the commotion woke Tim up.

Ireland is a beautiful country. Someday I will visit I'm part Scottish McPherson is the name in our family tree
Funny. I just had a conversation recently with someone with the same last name, but some in the family spelled it MacPherson. Apparently there was a rift somewhere along the lines. Ireland is indeed beautiful in many parts, but it has some less attractive areas as well. Definitely worth a visit. Just go. Life is short.
@@billjordan1173 there was a civil war General union side spelled McPherson but there was other Irish that fought under the confederate I believe they were Kelly's irish brigade

Such a great song. Reminds me of The Barley Mow, in that each chorus gets progressively longer by incorporating the verses before it.
I don't know which would be harder to learn. I think I'll just enjoy drinking to them instead.
First learned this in 6th grade, I am 60 this year and haven't ever forgotten how much I love it and how poignant I have always found it.
The Irish have certainly written their share of tunes about sad circumstances. "Step it out Mary" is one of the oddest with its upbeat music but very sad story, but I love it.

Start drinking (preferably Guinness) each verse when they sing “to have a drink or two” Continuing drinking non stop until they sing the word “down” (where the beer and whiskey flew) If you can’t make it to the next verse, do a shot of whiskey to tap out. If you make it until the end, do the shot of whiskey anyway. Then enjoy being absolutely hammered.
