So he was living neatly but unable to pay his bills. How old was he?
Something similar happened by us too and it all over $20k in property taxes. They could have just put a lien on the house instead but they chose to go full firepower on like an 70 yr old man who was in a similar situation. This is why property taxes shouldn't exist and the government is absolutely trash. They'll just send that money to Ukraine or lsrael instead of enriching the neighborhood the way the money should be spent.
