Weather proof your cap and ball revolver

In this video we water proof out black powder revolver. We seal off a cap and ball black powder revolver, soak it in water, and then shoot it. People say it can’t be done but we were able to do it. While we were able to accomplish this, we do not recommend you attempt this and take no responsibility should you try. #blackpowder #capandballrevolver #1851navy #blackpowderrevolver #muzzleloading #...

You start the breech plug with the touch hole lined up with the O on the barrel
Great video guys, I have a couple questions. Why would you use 90 grains of loose powder when the pellets were 100 grain equivalent? Also, have you tried using 2f or 3f triple 7 powder to prime the pellets? I've been eyeing this flintlock up, it looks sweet.
Sorry for just now seeing your comment. With loose powder you usually get better accuracy with lighter powder charges. Unfortunately I sold this gun and we won’t get to further test it!
I can't believe he had 3 shots at that thing and never hit it once😂😂
Part 2 will be uploaded soon. Please subscribe, like, and share to keep following along with this build!
Why was the barrel wedge off the gun?
@@beverlybrevit4288 not sure why you think it was? @6:30-6:50 minute mark in the video I put the cylinder and barrel back on the gun and insert the wedge.
Air gap only causes inconsistent accuracy, it's not dangerous
I will disagree with you on that
@@craigsoutdoorsports9292 Why so?
@@beverlybrevit4288 it can act like any obstruction in a barrel and cause to barrel to explode. You may get away with it but it will happen
@@craigsoutdoorsports9292 Has been proven many times to not be true, Muzzle loading society tested this a few years ago in a controlled test , nothing happened. Myth repeated over and over.

Yup yup been kicking around a few ideas myself
Love it . . . so quiet and smooth . . I`m looking for a original .32 squirrelgun-Crocket rifle here in Sweden where its no license if the rifle is older than from 1890 ! But it will cost me 2000 US Dollars that I`m willing to pay if I could find one !
I have an AR-15, a Benelli M4 and various other firearms for keeping any wandering Democrats from crawling in my winders, but the most fun gun I have is my .50 cal T/C Hawken rifle. I just ordered my first flintlock rifle kit made by Jim Kibler in .54 cal… a Woodsrunner. Gonna try building one myself. Something about shooting black powder that is addictive… maybe its the big balls… lol.
Great job ! have shot for year well put! MR!!! Props
i am a bp noob. but you used way too many napkins. thats a good way to cap jam, not soo much beeswax next time. just a thin coating around the nips was the play
I've carried birthday candles for years to drip wax around my rifle cap.
Excellent experiment I thought at least one wouldn't go off Also use a flap holster to keep water off the gun
What size patch do you use
.010
I read about how Sam Colt would load a revolver, lay it in a tank of water (like a fishtank), and then lecture for 15-20 minutes about how good his pistols were. Then he would lift the gun out of the water and fire it into a target with no misfires. I don't know if the caps manufactured for his revolvers were a proprietary design (probably), really tight, or if they had shellac or something else over the priming material to make them watertight. I think cap and ball revolvers nowadays are more of a novelty, but back then, they were serious self defense guns like Glocks or Smith and Wessons are today. I'm sure they took them more seriously back then. A big problem now, the major cap manufacturers and cap and ball revolver manufacturers don't take as much care for standards. Caps are either loose or too tight with no standards for fit and finish, even between lots. Colt sold his revolvers, but he also sold his waterproof cartridges with his caps in the package. Sort of like how razor manufacturers sell their blades for their "free" handles and printer companies make their printers to only use their ink cartridges. Basically getting you to buy his pistol so he could make more money selling the cartridge packets. He took more care to make sure it went "bang" when you pulled the trigger in all conditions, just like modern gun and ammo makers do.
Like I said in the video, I’ve seen where a treatise was written that stated to drip wax on the nipples. That’s sorta what we did only we actually took the nipples out, coated, screwed back in, cleaned hole with pick, loaded. Another thing I proved to myself is that as long as the cylinder has been de-burred properly and you are getting a good seal chain fires cannot happen. If water can’t get in past the ball, neither can hot gases.
Outstanding sir!
Use a chronograph. For some reason, leaving these loaded loses energy over time. I lose about 200 fps after a month. For that reason, I load about 15% hotter if I intend to carry for awhile. The same effect seems to occur with both black powder and 777 substitute.
I just bought one, i can't wait to shoot it.
Can get snappy with +P, but a good little CC gun.
I ALWAYS make sure my nipples and especially my touch hole is clean. No exceptions
Good information lol it looked like you had someone tied to the pole in the back ground
The wad you used is it lubed
I have shot muzzle loading rifles and pistols but never a muzzle loading shotgun what is the largest shot size you can use? Can you use 00 buck shot pellets and what is the effective range?
I got a 642 Smith makes some good revolvers
Well it went bang every time you pulled the trigger cool vid how was the humidity
Did Davey use a percussion rifle or a flintlock?
Flint lock
Very concise, well done, informative video--- Definitely not your first time at the rodeo--- Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
