Ipswich 3 - 1 West Brom 1978 FA CUP SEMI-FINAL
What was with the "canned" sound in the highlights for this game?
still heartbroken after all these years!! great cup run ending in a semi final where we didnt turn up, was it stage fright knowing we´d be on MOTD? Boing Boing!! coyb!
I was there! ❤
Brian Talbot later managed West Brom and did a terrible job.
West brom had 3 times more fans there than ipswich...
Was at the game remember it well sad day for us
Of course bramble fucked it up
Look how Tony Brown converted the penalty.....nobody does it like him.
Dreadful commentators. Who are they? Turnips from Anglia TV?
I'm a Villa fan but in the second half of the Seventies it was all Forest and Liverpool in the league and Man United & Arsenal in the FA Cup. The League Cup was were Villa did well. Then, around '80/'81, my team and the likes of Ipswich, Southampton, WBA had a real presence. Todays game is all too formulaic, predictable and boring. Both domestic cups will soon make way for expansionist European centred competitions. A shame.
This doesn’t sound like original commentary.
Why not use the original commentary?
Legendary Ipswich team 👌👌
How sad that Beattie's career was wracked by injuries..imagine this England backline (don't know if Statham played above) post 1980..V. Anderson T. Butcher or Alvin Martin/K. Beattie D. Statham, phew pace and defensive skills..
Kenny Sansom was a wonderful player. I don't think Statham was ever likely to displace him, as good as he undoubtedly was.
@@MisAnnThorpe I like to think that Clough (Peter Taylor did not rate Sansom interestingly enough)would have tried him out along with a cluster of other players..
In north bank that day
One of the best teams to never win the league,
We won the league in 1961. Under Alf Ramsey. Paul Mariner brought me here. RIP Paul.
@@tangfastic7075 I said 'teams' not clubs.
Not sure why I watch videos like this considering the current state of Ipswich, what an era I missed. Goosebumps.
Oh what an era we're back in now 😍 bright bright future uppa town 🚜💙
Both sides have had good and bad times since. I’m a Baggies fan and this side should have won at least 1 trophy. Like the tractor boys and others we have been up and down ever since. Sadly the way football is now I can’t ever see any team outside of the big six winning Premier titles, FA Cups or League Cups in the future. Money has ruined football.
I so glad I got too see this great ipswich team around then instead of the crap we have now the George burley Marcus Stewart side was the last good one
Scary. I was 9 when this game was played and I remember it so well....Talbot's goal, Alan Wileys bandages after the head clash, the late penalty. I wanted WBA to win because they beat the almost invincible Nottingham Forrest (who won the league and the league cup) in the quarter-finals.
Great times, glad I lived through them!
What a great team
Could only be Highbury with its shite "cheap greenhouse" manager dugouts. Should have tomatoes growing in it, not football staff sitting in it
Absolutely gutting for the Baggie wankers, hahaha...lol.
Bad day for the albion
That Ipswich side was incredible, so sad they didn't win the league. Now look at them.
Back then winning the cup was just as prestigious as winning the league.....maybe even more so so they did at least give the fans a huge day out V Arsenal.
@@tigerarmyrule and what a cup finale it turned out to be. Wark two times in the left post, Mariner in the cross bar. Could have been at least 4 or 5 goals for Ipswich. A good win.
Back in the prem!
Ipswich had a great team of players under Robson at the time. No big name players but they gelled really well
no big name players???? I do not think u know too much about the players from that time periode. Kevin Beattie was one of the best allround players ever in England. John Wark, Paul Mariner, Trevor Whymark, Mick Mills, Clive Woods, + + + Ipswich were not a fashionable club, but they had a super manager and super players
@@rolfwang5776 and that's just a few of them,
The Ipswich team of 78 was not a patch on the team of 80/81 with players like Muhren and Thihsen and Eric Gates and Terry Butcher and Alan Brazil that was the best team around in the early 80s and criminal they never won the league
@@mikedavies9953 2nd best after Villa. League Champions & European Champions.81/82.
Interrrrrrrrrrrr
Dear budgies up the A140, ever done this at Carrot Road? nope.........you lost at home against Inter, we beat them. Plus we are unbeaten in 30 plus matches at home in europe, that in 0%, you are defeated in one match, 33%. Pitiful, come back when you've ran around Amsterdam with a european trophy. Ipswich Town - PRIDE OF ANGLIA!!!
What ground was this played at?
Highbury. Arsenal's old stadium
Could only be Highbury with its crappy "cheap plastic greenhouse" dugouts. Now most Prem grounds have equally shit dugouts with those vile seats. You're there to do a job, not sit on a comfortable seat. The game is shite now
brian talbot, such a fucking beast. fucking everywhere he was.
that's why Arsenal took him
the game was good, the commentary terrible!
Dave Fisher wasnt this on the beeb , Absolute crap commentary as you say.
It’s not real, it’s been added on years later...it’s obvious
@@mikewest1542 Yes it was on the BBC, the commentary was by David Coleman.
Einfach schön
I remember this game well
This match was played at Highbury the former home of Arsenal not Wembly.
i was there... 6 hour drive to see inter lose (deserverdley) lol still great memories though...
That's the way it used to be. You should've heard the European matches....they sounded like they were inside a tin can. I miss those days.
I remember watching the highlights on the Sunday show, the day after. Can't remember the name of it now, but it was crap compared to MoTD.
Was it the big match on Sundays
Wot , no John Wile ? My most vivid memory - massive bloodied head bandage. Also I feel this commentary is genuine .... only in real time would a commentator , at full time , almost say that the ref is "looking at his whistle and blowing his watch" - as here.
Yes, Talbot was heroic in scoring the first goal, but John Wile equally so, not only trying to defend the cross but playing with a gashed and bleeding head
Did these commentators record this in 1998 from Papua New Guinea or something. They don't sound as if they are even 1000 miles close to the ground and it sounds like they've added their comments much, much later.
Craig Gerrard yep...not actual commentary team
I know, i wanted them to win it... but liverpool were too strong and the year the were not Villa pipped ipswich to the title... they went down hill after he took england job... cloughie managed it with derby and forest... won't happen again mate
that was fucking top notch, first rate even
fake and gay
bad day for the baggies i reember being two down after 15 mins. Felt like crying no way back........ few years later lost at highbury again to QPR deflected goal .....what a life
When the world made sense :) lets hope this nightmare ends next season and we pass those budgie shagging inbreds on the way up ;)
hut uuup, crup!
this is ryan gower speaking.. i would f*%&ing own this game!!
First, great video, really loved the bee's wing,
Youve never been there, youve never be there, , fuck all you canaries, youll never be there.
ipswich were a shit hot side back in late 70's early 80's... you won't get small clubs like them rising to the top anymore, its all about money now...
Leicester.
Small club? Ipswich are a big club but your point is right.
Now 13 years later it’s even worse. Outside the top 6 wealthiest clubs the chance of any other club winning a title or cup is getting smaller. The decision to end FA Cup replays because the FA can’t stand up to the Premier League is another example of money counting more than the game. Smaller clubs in the past had the hope of a 3rd round match against a big club with possibly a money spinning replay. Now it’s one game and that’s it.
I was at this game. I was 10 at the time and cried my eyes up all the way home
I was broken hearted you ruined my dream of seeing WBA at Wembley
Those Were The Days my friends.
