Pascal Zoghbi is a Lebanese designer and educator with a Master of Design in Type & Media from KABK. He founded 29LT digital type foundry in 2013. Building on a cross-cultural approach, he has developed an outstanding collection of contemporary multiscript typefaces. Having moved to Madrid in 2018, he expanded 29LT’s focus on Arabic and Latin scripts to embrace a global multiscript approach that taps into other world scripts. Zoghbi taught for ten years at various design schools in Lebanon and in the UAE. Internationally renowned, he has received prestigious design awards, such as TDC, Granshan, AIGA, and was nominated for Jameel Prize 3. He also co-authored and edited the “Arabic Graffiti” book.

No me parece patrimonio cultural todo aquel que obstaculiza el acercamiento a las fuentes de la cultura, que están en la lengua escrita. Por tanto, creo que en los países árabes haría falta una mente pragmática, como la del rey Sejong el Grande de Corea, que, "al observar la frustración que sentían sus siervos por no poder expresar sus sentimientos mediante los ideogramas chinos, los simplificó". "La región árabe tiene una de las tasas de analfabetismo más altas del mundo, con sólo el 62,2% de la población de la región mayor de 15 años capaz de leer y escribir, para el período 2000-2004, bastante por debajo del promedio mundial (84 %) y del promedio de los países en vías de desarrollo que llega al 76,4 %". ¿Tan poco compasivos son esos mandatarios árabes que, por un puñado de convenciones enrevesadísimas e innecesarias para el funcionamiento colectivo, dejan en el fango de la ignorancia mentes que, sin ninguna duda, florecerían en tantos otros ámbitos? Me ha impresionado muchísimo cómo detalles como estos pueden condicionar el mundo... ¿Cuándo aparecerá, por fin, un rey tan grande como el rey Sejong que facilite los libros, la inteligencia y la escritura de la lengua árabe a todas las personas que la hablan?

Hello, Pascal. I have a question. Is it acceptable to redesign and digitize an old typeface (letraset, berthold, etc.) and then sell it, or should this be avoided? And how do we deal with the copyright thing in this case?
During the process of reviving Berthold Nr.49, the design has undergone significant changes. Consequently, the final typeface will be different from the original one created in the 1950s. Berthold Nr.49 has not been digitized and is not copyrighted as a digital product, although the name Berthold is registered. Therefore, the upcoming superfamily of fonts that originated from Berthold Nr.49 will have a different design and a different name. Regarding Letraset or other companies that have created or distributed fonts, it is important to check if there are copyrighted materials for these fonts and whether they exist digitally or not.

It is important to note that Letraset not only created their own typefaces for dry transfer sheets but also distributed fonts from other type foundries. Therefore, it is essential to verify whether the dry transfer sheet you are examining contains a Letraset-designed typeface or if it is only reproduced by Letraset as a dry transfer font and actually belongs to another type foundry.
