Home Made CNC Plasma Cutter
I thought I'd make a quick video about the Arduino based CNC Plasma cutter that I made in the farm workshop.
EM interference was a major issue however, to overcome this I;
Used shielded wiring
Installed a stainless steel water bed
Put ferrite magnets everywhere
Earthed everything I could
Major parts include;
Arduino UNO
CNC shield V3
1.9Nm Nema 23 Stepper motors (2.8A)
24V Power supply
DM542T Stepper driver
HIWIN HGH15 linear rail (A must have item for an accurate system in my opinion)
5V 1 channel Relay Module with Optocoupler (For on/off plasma arc)
"Tool Mate" Plasma clean from Hare and Forbes Machinery House
Software im using;
Arduino IDE for flashing the arduino
Fusion 360
Universal G-code sender

    Can u tell me what all u got for to make the system work. I have the table with the motors I just don’t have the computer system and what programs I need to make everything work.

    Maybe the water jets are cooling the dross/slag too quickly and its solidifying and not getting blown out of the way, try a cut with same settings but without or less water(I've never seen water cooling done like that ie above the plate)

    I am looking at your controller box and I only see one drive control. How are moving Z and Y axis?

    what is the post processor you are using, I've just got my diy together working on the software side of things now.

    Do you have a diagram how you wired the cnc shield to the plasma cutter? I got a set up with the same board but using a primeweld cut60 3rd gen..

    I’m planning on building very similar rail and drive setup. Are you happy with the nema23 motors or do you feel more powerful nema34 motors would of been better?

      Unlike CNC routers, plasma cutters require very little torque. I made one with dinky little motors used in 3D printers.

    good job, i built mine using a grbl based controller as well (modded grbl and my fusion post processor) .... add THC, but never thought of adding nozzle mounted water cooling... are you still using it? also

    hi, very effective "home build", very impressive, and yes on these type of machines shielding and "proper" grounding is your best friend. bye Duncan

    I not use Fusion - giust use freeCAD or inkscape + BlenderCAM for creating Gcode "GRBL COMPATIBLE" > universalGcodesender - ALL FREE SOFTWARE ! also good for 2.5D cnc machining

  • @gameshot586
    @gameshot586 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice one man, for emf shielding, it could be coming back down the wires from the stepper coils, (had this problem with dc motor). To fix it, maybe add a diode or decoupling capacitor close to arduino and/or motor control boards.
