SeaDek EVA foam coming soon. Went with a leading name brand over the cheap stuff at 1/2 the price on Amazon. Too many bad revues about only lasting a couple of years. Spent the extra $ to get a product that will last

Had a great time with my son in law and two of his boys. Jacob caught 9 and Nathan caught 5 but one was probably biggest bluegill I have ever seen. Son in law introduced me to an editing software and I did this video on that program. I have a lot of possibilities once I learn. This video is rather long because I got tired of learning for the day and just sent it as is. My brain is full!

At 7:00, fish landing violation - 2 minute penalty....
Yeah, I sat down for 2 minutes
Looks like the ducking material is working. Bare hooves out there !
@@jamespetit1 yes sir! Loving it. Foot pedal was HOT so I had enough scrap to cover it . Could have bought one for $29.99 plus $9.00 shipping or spend an hour cutting my own. How’s your new boat?
Have to register it yet. This week probably.Getting everything bought and organized. Had to buy a new tow vehicle too, get a hitch put on. I have about a dozen rods here to get ready, tackle to sort out and organize etc....I 2 more shipments of tackle coming then I'm done ! My living is a mess with all the gear. I m making a Nav light into a device to plug in the nav light socket and run off nav light outlet. Should be out in a week or two.
Got a nice 4 blade SS prop and jckplate if I ever want to hit the salt again. I love to fish snook and know nsome good mid winter trout hangouts. Love Trout.
Numbers are great but it’s truly the lake of 1lbers Nice job
@@kennyhaworth9606 it has a bunch of dinks but it also has big girls. Just gotta weed through the dinks. My philosophy is catch as many as you can and the big ones will show up.
@@rustyreidfishing3334 There are some big pigs in there, you just have to work to find them, I caught a 10.5 two years ago when the lake got really high on a strike king cut r worm.
@@scottwhitefishing I’ve had two 9.6 and 4 over 8 in last 4 years but no double digit yet. Biggest I’ve seen out of Hernando is 13.5. They live here
Looks like you went north.😊
Glad no water in the boat...😅. I finally get mine back Tuesday from being serviced...in Michigan now...can't wait to get out there
Nice video Rusty
@@WegoFishing352 thanks! Little better day today. Vid should be up tomorrow
The small ones were biting today between 9 and 1130 boated 9 small ones and had another 4 misses
Just had the July full moon. on the 22md...
Boats looks pretty nice. May slighty reduce foot/leg/ back etc... during thew coarse ofd the day too.
Thanks. After a successful back surgery 15 years ago it can’t hurt. Felt like I was fishing on a new boat
@@rustyreidfishing3334 Yeah I see stuff just like it being sold for cashiers mats, meachanics benches, Kitchen work sttions etc...and it has to be a bit cooler too.
@@jamespetit1 do your research on EVA foam before you purchase. Many imitations out there especially on Amazon. Too many bad reviews about the Chinese off brands. I opted to spend the $ now rather than having to tear out and replace in a couple of years. I’ll have to see personally how it holds up but I feel comfortable with my choice
@@rustyreidfishing3334 Oh, I'm sure there is a bunch of crap out there. I will study and research them before buying. On my last aluminum I just put a really good green outdoor carpeting on and it held up beautifully for years.Greem with black in it, look good held up good.
Play some small ones would have worked on the old farts
They all count wit no minimum
Can’t wait to see it 😊
I just messaged you a pic on Facebook. Nine's a 16.5 and has a power pole. 101 hrs. Like new, looks just like the pic, same trolling motor, Garmin ClearVu, on board charger etc...
Should be interesting. What color is it going to be ? My friend has it on his flats boat. Definitely adds to the daily cleaning list when you get home. What did that set you back out of curiousity? I think my friends was over a grand on a 17', hope you like it.
@@jamespetit1 I wanted to do a light or medium gray but thought it would show dirt easily so I went with snow camo. Figured it would hide dirt better and help mask any installation errors. I’m usually not a fan of camo but I saw it in a guys boat last week and looked pretty good. Should be cooler and easier on the feet
@@rustyreidfishing3334 I think that was a good choice. My friend has the light gray and it is a pain in the ass. Can't wait to see how it looks. May do the same to mine. What was the cost of everything?
@@jamespetit1 was like $648 for 4 sheets with discounts. Depending on how well I think this out should be just enough but may have to buy one more sheet for some small areas that I could get by without covering. Spent $50 on supplies today. Just waiting on FedEx now
@@rustyreidfishing3334 That's not too bad. NOTHING is cheap anymore. Can't wait to see it. Oh, what is your opinion on the side view in Fl waters? Mine has the garmin ClearVu.
@@jamespetit1 you bought a boat! What did you get?
That last fish was nice...I always know it's a better fish when it doesn't fly out of the water when you set the hook...lol.

What new editing software did you go with ? I think they're all a pain in the ass to learn !!!
Movavi. My son in law uses for his church work. He’s the one that made my intro and exit videos. I will still be doing my editing for a while on my iphone/GoPro account but playing with the software on the side until I figure it out. It’s just an extension of my love for my bass fishing “hobby”.
I just loaded clipchamp and trying to figure it out. You live Movavi ?
@@jamespetit1 not sure yet. Seems like it could be “simple” enough. Paid for lifetime sub at $79. Son in law likes it. I need to play with it a while in the back ground but for now I’ll use GoPro Quick on my phone since I’m familiar with it. I think there are many more possibilities with Movavi
@@jamespetit1 I can do basic stuff but find it easier on phone with GoPro app but I have the potential to do much more.
Great video Rusty.
It was a great day
Fantastic video buddy! Fishing is the best way to make memories. Thanks for sharing.

Boys always enjoy spending time on the water with Papa 😊 still can’t believe we caught those 2 huge blue gills
I love every second on the water with you guys. Wish we could do it more often
Awesome day of fishing!
@@calloftheoutdoors8941 it sure was

It’s the best
I bet those youngsters had a great day watching those bobbers. I loved it when i was their age.
Dang buddy! You caught some fish!
Hmmm the guy in front of you wasn't catching squat... 😮
Happy 4 my friend
Love wacky
Still caught some wind might have helped out some if it had blown. Clear flat bluebird days make me slow down and go deep with slow moving baits like a silent crank
I always like a little wind but seems lately there is no wind or blowing so hard it's white capping. Just have to deal with elements. If we wait for the "perfect" day we wouldn't fish much. I still haven't invested in power poles so it does make extremely winding days very challenging
@@rustyreidfishing3334 8 pound bell anchor is my power pole and I use it on extremely windy days just to hold still on a spot long enough to fish it. If I had em I wouldn't complain though
@@jeffreyrodgers5835 taking young grandsons bluegill fishing in the morning and have the anchor in the boat. Guess I’m too lazy to use it bass fishing 🥴
Hey rusty I've only fished hernando a few time and not to much luck, when you pick a spot what do you look for and what do you use
I fish mostly pads. In summer months I’m looking for deeper pads in 4’+ water and listen for bluegill. If they are not making that sucking noise I’ll move through that area fairly quickly. Once I catch a fish or hear bluegill I’ll slow down and fish the area more thoroughly. Once I catch one I’ll usually catch more. Over time I’ve discovered difficult to get to deeper holes back in the pads that they seem to hold in. The bass get under the thick pads for protection from the sun and to feed on bluegill. I throw a frog a lot but my go to the last 3 years has been a 4.5” swimbait with 1/8 oz pegged bullet weight on 20# fluorocarbon. Many come on outside edges of pads but sometimes I throw a larger swimbait with no weight deep in the pads on 50# braid. Before I got hooked on swimbait I mostly threw a swim jig. Near the mouths of canals is also a great spot. A lot of guys fish the canals with small worms with success. I choose not to fish main canals because of boat traffic and potential of accident. I do fish some of the canals further back where there is not as much traffic
@rustyreidfishing3334 thank you will try it that out next time
Hey rusty what are some of your go to baits or lures when you’re out fishing lake Hernando?
Thanks for watching! I probably catch over 90% of my fish on a swimbait. I always have 2 rods rigged with swimbait. A 4.5” on 20# fluorocarbon with pegged 1/8oz tungsten weight. And a 5.5” weightless with a cone head on 50# braid for when I throw way back in the junk. Most of the catches are on the 4.5”
Slow down there "No luck Chuck !!!" That's funyy. Well, a fun day. A rigs are great at times in the summer, not cheap when they're all said and done neither ! Plus one for the blooper reel !
nice fish...6.10...you're on a roll...7 pounder next week.
That was a good day. I always liked overcast days with a light breeze. What color swimbait ?
Same ol’ Bruised Copper
@@rustyreidfishing3334 That's a good one.
I’m at my lake house fishing these lakes and I will tell you sometimes they bite like crazy then other times it’s slow like today caught a 5 pounder in less than 5 minutes then lost one and had about 3 small bites it’s about luck sometimes it seems like
I think it’s just my confidence lure. I know that you know there is no magic bait
you should have given them the magic swim bait...lol
Very nice day Not sure how long you have been fishing Hernando but I’ll ask anyways Do you know why there are not more midsize bass in the lake 1lbers to 10lber 2s 3s and 4s are very difficult to find
Hey Kenny, I’ve been fishing Hernando for about 5 years now. I know the lake has the larger fish. In that time I’ve caught 4 over 8lb and 2 over 9lb. Had 8lb 11oz May of last year was my last trophy. I’ve had a multitude of 3-5s all on artificial baits. Summer of 2022 was probably my best period. Last summer and so far this summer it’s been slow on bigger ones. I know there was a 13 caught earlier this year and a 9 caught just couple weeks ago. I have the philosophy to just catch as many as I can and the big ones will come. I seem to do better in the heat of the day. I think the record breaking heat last summer hurt. I think they just bury themselves in the deeper pads for for shade and to feed on bluegill. I’ve toyed with the idea of taking all my rods out of the boat for a few days and just taking a couple of flipping sticks and forcing myself to use them. Just my thoughts. Do you fish Hernando often? If so stop me and say hey. Love to talk fishing
Yes for a long time Me and my son were out on Father’s Day from 6 to 10am We caught 19 1 to 2lbs Yes we have caught some bigs But overall it’s small or large and with water coming down thought those fish would have to group up a bit
Good video rusty
Finally got one out, good job man. see you out there Tuesday
I’ll be there. Is this Harold?
Dave!
Nice fish Rusty. I had no idea you were such a talented dancer.😁
Ha! Multi talented 🥴. Grandkids think I’m just a silly old man. Love to make them smile
That's a good one ! Do you know anyone or anyplace up there that rents out slips or docks ? Or how I could find out ? The old trusty swimbait ! Goldrush ? I would say that was your best day in a while. We used to do good there when it was unbearably hot.
I don’t know about boat slips for rent unless you could find a homeowner that would rent. I know there are Airbnb’s on the water. Maybe they would rent a slip? Might be worth a try. I seem to do best in heat. They like to get in the pads for shade and feed on bluegill
Anyone you could lead me to by chance or maybe to call ? Or a source to seek out? We almost died out there a few times ! I do believe we had our best fishing then. It gets Tarzan hot out there !!!
@@jamespetit1 I would have no idea to contact as I don’t know anyone that lives on the water. Maybe get on Airbnb, look for short term rentals on water with dock. They may possibly rent out their dock if looking to make $. Don’t know if it will work, just a thought
@@rustyreidfishing3334 Okay, keep an ear to the wind if you would. Maybe see you up there soon. Going tomorrow to look at a boat.
nice fish sir...and that's why you throw a swim bait on Hernando! lol she was 7 pounds a month ago...congrats...
Thx. I thought she was a 7 as well. Had the head and length but paper thin. I’ll still take it
i am out on hernando all the time strange i have never ran into you
Thanks for watching! I try to avoid the craziness on weekends. I usually fish Tuesday and Thursday but do change days. I won’t be out today since I’m doing something with grandkids and Thursday will depend on weather, looks like we are going to get much needed rain. I’m in a black Alumacraft, don’t hesitate to say hey
My pool gets afternoon sun. It was 87 today. Lets hope for some of them cloudy drizzly days when the Bass go nuts for topwater.
Nice chatting with you the other day, it's been hot out for sure and had to grind our way to 20ish fish that morning on the trip. Having flurries of several in a row with slower 1 here and there moments. Keep grinding bud, ill see you out there!
Nice talking to you as well!
Too hot for us old folks. Prolly won't get out 'til we get some cloudy and/or rainy days.
We really need rain.
the first one was the "no look" hook set...awesome...
My hearing isn’t as bad as my wife says 🥴
@@rustyreidfishing3334 lol
Hey Rusty. Enjoy your videos. My Son and I are thinking about coming up from Lakeland and fishing Hernando. You seem to use a swim bait alot; could you tell us 6 what manufacturer and color you primarily use so we can pick up a few. Many thanks and maybe we'll see you on the water.
Thanks for watching. I like the Gambler EZ Swimmer in Bruised Copper. Red Ear works well too. Anything that mimics a bluegill. Larger fish have been few and far between lately. Largest for me this year is 5 lb but friend did have 9 lb couple weeks ago. They are here!
Great topwater day! My wife and I will be out Thursday morn. I was going to throw a Plopper but after watching this, I'll be tieing on a Spook. Maybe I'll see you tomorrow. I'm going to try back in Van Ness.
Awesome! Don’t hesitate to approach me on the water
What lake sir? Hunters? Looks peaceful.
Lake Hernando, part of the Tsala Apopka Chain in Citrus County
Last year they seemed to bite better in the hot days and not really start biting till late morning. Its a different place
I agree. Some of my best fishing has been during the heat of the day
