The People in Hong Kong are upset due to The People's Republic of China refusing to keep some promises about the One County Two Systems. The policy was the people would have the freedom of speech, right to vote, and freedom of the press. Freedom of speech is something that the mainland doesn't have in Hong Kong's case Beijing has been censoring the media and online videos. China also promised that the people could hold free democratic elections instead of the leader being selected by small comity and being approved by the mainland government. Freedom of the press has also been stripped from Hong Kong as most of the people in the press are mainland people. All the counties are under one country and have two systems that have been taken over by China. China since has taken their freedom of speech by censoring the media and going as far as to kidnap authors taken the free elections from the people. China has gone so far as to mess up its economy and take away some of the rights they have. China allows tourists and people to travel in and out of the mainland to Hong Kong and Macao. The promise China has given was to let the people of Hong Kong hold free and fair local government elections but China did not keep its promise. The international response has had Beijing moves and took retaliatory measures. The administration of former U.S. President Donald J. Trump imposed sanctions on Chinese officials it alleged were undermining Hong Kong's autonomy, including Lam; restricted exports of defense equipment to Hong Kong; and started revoking its special trade status according to Lindsay Maitland and Eleanor Albert. The The US was backed up by near-back countries such as Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. The UK was not happy with China's response.
