Silky's story is sad when you look at what we don't know: a young, promising, talented ballerina who was probably taken advantage of or was just naive has to take up multiple jobs to support her child as a single mother (it isn't uncommon to be disowned by family for having a baby out of wedlock in Japan, so God knows she has no familial support, hence her getting loans from Yakuza). She doesn't resent her child for taking her dreams away, instead, supports and loves her in excess. So much so that she takes money she owed the Yakuza in order to buy her a new dress, which ultimately makes them raid her house, take her child, and ends in her suicide. I don't think they pimped the kid out, as in the manga, we see her as a child joining Silky in Heaven. What probably happened was they harvested her organs to sell on the black market to settle Silky's debts (children organs fetch a high price due to their rarity). So, it could be said that the kid didn't suffer long. They most likely put her under, or killed her quickly, before harvesting her organs. This episode is what truly brings DANDADAN full circle, from romantic comedy to total tragedy, all the themes are done perfectly with phenomenal music, sound effects, and visuals. This is surely to be voted anime of the year!

He is a graf, which is a noble, equivalent to a count. Here, most large towns are ruled over by a heredity noble family. What's not as clear as to what larger nation they are part of. We have a royal capital in the central lands ruled by a king, and in the far north is an empire ruled by an emperor. But its not clear what areas they rule. Nor how the southern lands (where Fern came from) is ruled.

I have to ask, why do you think that execution is an unreasonable punishment for murdering a guard? A life for a life seems pretty fair to me.

The manga confirms that the daughter unfortunately dies shortly after she gets taken. :( And yes, when Aira sees Silkie, she's already dead. She can't remember her past, but Aira's presence reignites some memory, but she confuses Aira with her own daughter and latches onto her for years. Children can see the paranormal better, and lose the ability the older they grow. Once Aira found the Gold ball, it unlocked her spiritual powers that were locked away for years. hope that covers it !

Braindances or BDs are recordings of a person's memories from their perspective, recorded by a braindance "scroller" (recorder) in the brain. It doesn't just record sound and visuals, though, it records the entire physical experience. Watching a braindance, you're experiencing that memory as if you were living in that moment yourself. Touch, taste, sight, sound and smell are all recorded, and the device/headset a braindance is played through, called a wreath, tricks the viewer's brain into feeling, smelling, hearing, and seeing every detail of the recording. You can probably see how this could be a problem, as incredible of an advance in technology it is. When porn braindances literally make you feel as though you're actually having crazy sex with a bunch of gorgeous people (like Doc was watching in the first episode), it can be easy for those prone to addiction to get sucked into a lifestyle of laying around all day, watching braindances, living another life. XBDs are just what I said in the other video's comments: illegal braindances. Gore, torture, snuff (video of someone dying), porn that crosses the line of what is just a fetish, and what is actually evil and immoral. I don't need to go into detail on that last one for you to fill in the blanks. So not every BD is an XBD, but every XBD is a BD. Just like actual movies and shows in real life, now, there's mainstream braindances that are mass-marketed and extremely popular. Sometimes they're acted out movies and dramas, sometimes they're just recordings of crazy experiences like skydiving or walking on the moon that average people might be too afraid or just unable to actually do: with braindances, they can still experience it "firsthand." There's even BD's of people dying. The first one you experience in the game is of an armed robber holding up a convenience store. As he leaves the store with the money, his "partner" who put him up to doing it and recording it as a braindance to sell, actually shoots him in the head, making the player character suddenly jolt out of the braindance in shock and fear, yelling out as if they actually felt themselves being shot in the head and dying. Turns out, the guy who shot the other did it to up the sell value of the braindance recording, since adrenaline junkies everywhere are willing to pay extra to experience something like the thrill of robbing a store and getting shot to death in one go. Crazy shit, I know. If there's one word to describe the society in Cyberpunk, especially in Night City: desensitized. Desensitized to violence, sex, drugs, poverty, crime, everything. This is why a 17 year old kid like David watching an XBD of a cyberpsycho like James Norris gunning down tons of police, then getting flatlined by MaxTac, like we see in the first episode, all for the thrill of experiencing that rush, is actually pretty normal in this world. Also they use the term "virtue" multiple times in the show: that's just another word for virtual. So a virtue is just another word for a BD recording, since it's a virtual experience. Also "scrolling" is another word for recording a braindance, and a "scroll" is the recording itself. Hope this clears things up a bit.

Lucy in the bath actually has a purpose, not just fanservice lol Netrunners like Lucy and Kiwi are able to "dive" into the net and traverse it as though it were a physical place. This is where they do their best work, essentially, without getting too much into the details of what dataforts are and what ICE is, etc. You'll see more of it in the series, specifically in episode 6 especially, where deep diving is introduced as a concept: different from regular diving, is all I'll say about it for now. All you need to know is that netrunning is hacking, essentially, and you can either do it in real space by quickhacking like Lucy does with the drones in episode 5 and to overheat and set fire to the cyberpsycho in episode 4, or you dive into cyberspace and do more intensive hacking that has more of a strain on the body and brain. Netrunners, when plugged in and traversing cyberspace like that, need to stay cool, since their body is essentially the conduit they're using to interface with the net- think of it like a computer needing fans to stay cool, as it heats up when using more processing power. So, they either use netrunner chairs which come with built-in cooling, injectable coolant, or, what Lucy prefers: an ice bath. She's also naked to allow easier access for cable ports all over her body, as you saw. You also might have noticed the water was just that: steaming water, no ice left at all. That's how hot they get while netrunning: an ice bath is only going to do its job for so long before it all melts and starts to warm up. I don't know of it happening in the lore or game at any point, but I can imagine a netrunner who gets stuck and can't jack out of the net, while in an ice bath, would eventually be boiled alive in it, still stuck in cyberspace, but feeling every second of it. ☹️ not fun. To answer your other question, netrunners do also have cyberware to assist diving and traversing cyberspace, but its usually more internal, which is why you don't see as many noticeable implants on Lucy or Kiwi: most of it is under the skin, smaller, and focused on boosting RAM, processing power, and cooling, less arm cannons and blades, more like PC parts situated near organs like the spine and brain. In Lucy's case, her body is lined with multiple ports for cables to connect to. She also has monowire, which is the bright orange wire she uses to cut the arms off those Maelstrom goons. Monowire is basically a retractable, super-heated microfilament, like the part of a light bulb that lights up, but even smaller, hotter, and as flexible as a piece of string. It spools up inside of the wrists, and can even be used to quickly connect to and quickhack enemies. In the game, you can use hacks like weapon glitch or cripple movement on your monowire, so every time you hit an enemy with a fully-charged strike, the hack instantly uploads to them, jamming their weapon or... well, crippling their movement lol, usually by disabling cyberware in their legs. I know this is probably a lot of info to take in over something you're probably not gonna get super invested in outside of this show, but I do feel like knowing it helps make watching the show more interesting and less confusing. If you do play video games at all, I highly recommend giving Cyberpunk 2077 a shot some day. If you couldn't already tell from me talking like a hypernerd about it, it's definitely my favorite game, and you can get totally lost in the lore and world for hours. It's also a mostly story-based, cinematic RPG, not the first person shooter it looks like from the outside, even though it is played from first person and has guns You make your own character and customize how they look, choose their lifepath which is basically the prologue of the story, how they got started in Night City and what they grew up in (there's 3 lifepaths, either Nomad, Street Kid, or Corpo), and decide throughout the story how you want your playstyle to be: do you want to be a netrunner who hacks and uses stealth or homing-projectile firing "smart guns", or do you want to be what's called a "solo", which is what Maine and David are: mercs who use combat cyberware like a sandevistan, guns, swords, throwing knives, etc. to hit hard and fast, go in guns-blazing? It's an extremely varied game with so many ways to play it, and the story is absolutely incredible, one of the best in video games ever. Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba play major characters in it, so you get to hang out with John Wick and Stringer Bell from The Wire, which is great, and their performances and the motion capture are fantastic too. It feels like watching a movie that you get to control and decide the outcome of. Also, all of the music you hear in this show was actually made for the game itself, and can be heard on the radio in the car or just walking the city streets. On top of that, almost every location from the show can be visited in the game, since the show basically copied the game world 1:1 for background references. Overall it's just such a cool franchise. Netflix is actually coming out with a new animated Cyberpunk series pretty soon, something separate from Edgerunners, since Edgerunners is a complete story in 10 episodes. I'm sure I've rambled about this long enough, hope it wasn't too boring to read lol Enjoy the show tho, episode 6 is actually amazing and sets the tone for the rest of the series in a major way. You'll see 👀

Scavengers are actually a specific gang in Night City. They kidnap people and harvest their chrome and even organic organs to sell on the black market. They're considered among the lowest of the low, evil scum. In the game, you infiltrate multiple scav hideouts throughout the story, all littered with mutilated bodies, diagrams of the human body and mannequins with prices and notes written on each limb and organ, piles of discarded victims' clothing, graffiti on the walls giving instructions to new scavs on how to keep victims sedated with narcotics, etc. The gang also dabbles in XBDs, which you learn about a little more in episode 5. Stands for Extreme Braindance, basically, and refers to illegal braindances with extremely taboo and illegal, often cruel subject matter. Think snuff films, gore, porn that goes way beyond the line of what is okay, to put it lightly. Not every braindance is an XBD, BDs are also just mainstream entertainment, and even a method of forensic investigation, since they have the unique quality of being recordings of someone's memory, and allow the user to experience it as if they were there, all 5 senses being engaged. You come across a particular scav hideout that is recording snuff and torture porn XBDs in the game. You find it by watching a braindance they made, from the point of view of a victim who is forced to jack into (connect to) a netrunner chair and have their synapses fried and body overheated to a boiling point by a computer program. Messed up stuff, the game is not for the faint of heart lol Anyway, the scavs are especially recognizable since they all wear distinctive holographic masks, usually with Xs for eyes and similar "graffiti" style faces projected, to hide their identities. You've already watched it, so I'll point it out: the gang they fight during David's training montage in episode 4 is scavs. Not the one with grindcore metal playing and Rebecca locked in a fridge as hostage: that's actually a gang called Maelstrom. The scavs are the ones who ambush David and hit him in the head with a baseball bat, then Pilar drops a bunch of flashbang grenades, and Kiwi hacks their weapons to jam while she sits at a desk. Thats the scavs. There's a lot of different gangs in NC, and each has their own unique and interesting history, method of doing things, and allegiances. It's a fun rabbit hole of lore to dig into lol

Demons in this world are a bit more simple than usually portrayed in media or "history". It's their nature to be the way they are. It isn't technically evil what they do to survive as predators of humans. The demon child in the flashback was using the village chief's child as leverage for its own self-preservation, considering it transactional with no morality. So it's basically just as you said, we sort of view that as psychopathic, devoid of feelings. We would be very similar to them if we weren't taught morals within a society. Regarding the pause in the show, I know I prefer if you pause to say something since you may forget it by the end of the episode. It'd be better not to miss out on the content for yourself. You edit these videos anyways, so I don't see why others would have an issue with pausing or even rewinding to collect your thoughts or make sure you didn't miss something
