OUR LAST HIKE IN ACADIA | Champlain Mountain, Wild Blueberries, Endless Views // WFTV_EP25
I did this a couple of weeks ago because my SO really wanted to do it. I'm afraid of heights. Some parts were very scary (I remember one in particular) - the parts that probably don't get captured on video because you need to have the camera down. That being said, it is a bit of mind over matter if you are afraid of heights. I did NOT enjoy doing it and would not do it again, and probably would not do it if I knew how scary some parts were. After you cross the metal step rungs, there is no way to just quit and go back the way you came. The metal step rungs that she butt-scooted across look scary on camera but the drop there is only about 10-15 feet and so completely disagree that is the scariest part - if you can't do that part, turn around then as that is near the beginning and easy to walk back down. All that being said too, I did do it and so take what you will - I don't want to rob someone of their joy, you do need to focus on how to overcome fear in the moment.
What time of year was this?
Nice hikes. I missed these when I was in Acadia. Glad to experience them through your lens. Thanks for sharing. 🙌👏🙏
I used to literally run all these walking trails. Drop my boy at the YMCA and run through Indian trails into the manageable-sized mountains. The gorge has fresh water flowing (late spring) and wild blueberry bushes to rake with your hand. So great to run but potentially dangerous - you have to focus intensely (each footfall was at a different angle). Literally nobody in the entire park was running per se, but it was one of the great moments of my life to spend the whole summer of my 40th year, in 2003, on Mount Desert.
Love that trail...Great job filming it !
three words: lakes, trails, tent! (77-th like)
Wish you guys were still doing your thing. Miss you. Please stay well
good video.
You need to learn the Rules of When the Reserve Opens and Closes; Opens at Sunrise and Closes at Sunset, like most of the Parks in New Jersey!
Looking forward to this next early fall! Your post helps keep the dream alive. ❤️🚐💨
how is it not crowded? we had a line in front and behind us 10/9/22
Just discovered your channel and am enjoying the videos. Hope you're okay.
Not even sure you guys are monitoring this but I just discovered your channel today when looking for dispersed camping in the adirondacks and was shocked to see you guys stopped making videos almost two years ago. I really like the production quality and style of video and I’m surprised you guys never got as popular as the other big channels. Hope you’re both doing well.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
This site looks amazing, I think I found it on a map using satellite images. You said near Wells NY, I don't want to give it away but River Rd is a good road to be on for camping I take it. Going to be heading there soon, can't wait.
You did the leg work for me!!! I appreciate it 🙂
Lol. This looks amazing! You can find me on the shore path.🤣
Good for you. To each his/her own.
I just discovered your videos as I prepare my van life road trip from Chicago back to Acadia. You guys are awesome, interesting and cute. I hope you keep up the videos. I will be searching for more. ❤️😊😊
Yo good looks on the video. We were gonna follow the trail maps online which told us to to down the hard part. But we followed your route and thank God. Not a hard hike but a really good workout
Dope music, love the video!
my hands sweat so much watching this 😭😭😭
RIP
I just did this hike a few days ago and I didn't expect it to be so scary. It's mostly mind over matter because it's not that physically challenging, but there about 4 areas that I was like...."oh my god."
@@XxTheTrueCrimexXI agree
Thanks for your video. I now want to do this. It's on my bucket list.
Also one of my favorites. And I'll be there in 10 days!
My 1997 custom high top 1500 Savana is one of a kind! I run 1” wheel spacers and all terrain tires all round. Also upgraded front and rear shocks. This van drives like a luxury SUV. It is not 4x4 and ground clearance is poor so being reasonable is my best off road feature.
I have explored the ADK for like 50 years. Have ridden on/off road motorcycles throughout, 4 Jeeps, been van camping for decades, own a cabin in a pine forest southern ADK. Been through Wells hundreds of times can’t believe I’ve missed this road. My experience is that many dirt roads in the ADK are private with gates, or State with no overnight camping. We stayed on the Sacandaga River at the state campgrounds near where you probably where…..real nice! NY/ADK is not very nomadic adventure welcome, but we have found free spots and not been shot at….yet. Nothing like the BLM free stuff out west, NY can be tough. That’s why we bought our own 7 acre campsite!!!
Waterfowl are so dramatic lol.
Beautiful area! What age was Travis when you started and how consistently did you take him outside in the backpack? If you were just doing a day trip in from home to do a hike, would you put a litter box in the car? Thanks for sharing!
Nice tires. Is your van on a lift kit?
Stop cheesing for the camera jeez
Cool I'm a Maine-A 😎
Oh man I accidentally ended up on top of Cedar Swamp Mtn trying to locate the waterfall. I eventually found it but I’m bummed I didn’t know about that crash site, as I for sure would’ve checked it out. Nice vid guys 👌
Beautiful
I did the Beehive many years ago and I was exactly how this woman was on the trail. She even says the same things I said. It was cool but never again.
The pictures I've seen of Acadia are probably the closest replica I've seen to the rugged beauty of Highway 1 on the West Coast. Definitely a future vacation spot for me. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
I just returned from a week's stay in Acadia and Gorge Path was my 3rd of 3 hikes last week. It was also the best. I came at it from the small parking lot along the Park Loop Road, hiked up through the gorge, up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain and returned the same way. I was most impressed with the 2014 reconstruction of the trail due to years of erosion. The granite stepping stones blended into the surroundings SO well that it looked natural rather than man-made. And to hear the brook as you walked along side or criss-crossed it made you forget it was a strenuous hike. Every hiker I met commented how beautiful a trail Gorge Path was to hike. Definitely a highlight and worth doing if you are in Acadia for several days. For those interested: The Falcon Guide "Hiking Acadia National Park" is a great reference, with very clear maps of and information about the individual hiking trails in and around Acadia. I picked up my copy of it at the Visitor Center gift shop. They also offer paper maps showing all the trails and how they are interlinked to one another that is worth the $5 investment. And it doesn't ever require recharging. 😊
Very cool! Was supposed to head there April 2020, but that never happened! Good to see people out again. Keep on vannin'
That water is so clear you could probably just drink it straight from tge lake.
12min in I would kill for a spot like this!! What is the gps coordinates? I’m planning a trip this weeekend
That hike looked intense. Thanks for another awesome video!
It’s an awesome hike! A must do if you’re ever up in Acadia! Thanks for watching ✌🏼
Hey guys, going to glacier this weekend, where’s that spot at in 9:10 ? Going to sleep in a car, would be great to find a spot like that. Great vid by the way 🤙🏽
What's up Les! This camp spot was along Hungry Horse Reservoir. I can't tell you exactly where the spot is (half the fun is finding the perfect camp spot) but I can tell you that there are tons are amazing free spots to camp along the reservoir. The road goes for miles around it, plenty of incredible options. Have a great time! Report back with where you end up sleeping.
You guys should go check out pink elephant mountain over in Greenville . There is a WW2 bomber crash and parts scattered everywhere. It’s a very interesting place to be plus Moosehead Lake is absolutely one of the prettiest places to be in maine during the fall months that are coming up!
Never heard of pink elephant mountain, but sounds like we have to put it on our list! Thanks for the recommendation Scott ✌🏼
I enjoyed that video very much! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! Have you ever been to Harriman State Park?
@@workingforthevan9280 yes, i love it there
Great job guys! I like the nature moment at 9:04! Thank you for sharing! Let's be friends 🙂
Thank you so much!
Curious, where in the Park? It has 6 Million acres.
Can’t tell you exactly where this spot is (half the fun is searching for free spots), but I can tell you it’s right out of Wells, NY ;)
@@workingforthevan9280 Wells, got it. Thanks
I’ve been exploring the ADK for like 50 years. Ridden on/off road motorcycles everywhere possible. We have a camper van also, and a camp/cabin in the ADK. There are MANY posted dirt roads with many times gates prohibiting access. From my experiences the ADK is not an easy to find free camping park…but it can be done. Be prepared to be asked to leave but if you are ok with conflicts…..go for it. As a life long NY and ADKer my opinion is that NY is not very open to nomadic lifestyles, Nothing like BLM out west…..nothing like.
Can you hike up the way you came down? I’m afraid of exposed drops but would love to see the view from the top. What was the trail you came down called
Yes you can hike up the way we came down! To be honest, not entirely sure what the name of that trail is. But when you get to the split right at the yellow warning sign, keep going straight (instead of turning right to head vertical) and just follow that trail/signs for the beehive! The view up top sure is beautiful.
@@workingforthevan9280 Gorham mtn./Bowl trail intersect and connect down there
Heading up there next week. Hoping to do this same hike. I saw you picked up your car at South trail. Is the North trailhead close by where you started? Wondering how to get to our car after. PS I loved that you took your car on the hike!! I used to walk my cat too! 😂
Sorry for the late reply Dawn! The North trailhead is not close to the South Ridge trailhead. How was your trip to Acadia??? Isn't it beautiful?
The cat naturally enjoyed hiking? Or you trained him/her on leash early?
We trained him to hike on a leash! It took a bit of work, but honestly he enjoyed being out and exploring so he figured it out pretty well.
16:08 she is so over your rant in 3, 2, 1 . . .
Trust me, I was over my own rant
Loved the video and music. Could you provide an outline of the loop you did and maybe a link to a map for reference? Some friends and I are going to Acadia in two weeks and would love to do Gorge Path but on this trail, although AllTrails suggests Gorge Path + North Ridge. Thanks!
Sorry for the late response! How was your trip to Acadia??
