Ham radio tip , Keep your Key clean , safety old transmitters
Safety First Using an old cathode keyed transmitter can be dangerous high voltage may be on the metal parts of your telegraph key . Many older Tube transmitters key the final amplifier tube cathode on my old Heathkit AT-1 I measured 300 volts on the metal parts of the Key . I found this out after I got a real nasty shock when touching my old J38 Key connected to the AT-1 . Placing the key in a plastic bag and operating the Key through the plastic bag when using old transmitters adds a measure of safety . Having the key in the bag also protects the key from dust and dirt . If you are showing the station to someone just pull the bag off 73 Bob

An 80 meter full wave Horizontal loop is the best 80 meter antenna I have found for use on my lot here in this subdivision my lot is 150 feet long and 100 feet wide . With the trees Available my loop is more of a triangle of wire than a loop about 30 feet up . I used 75 ohm feedline because I already had some RG-11 up the tower and decided to try it. The full wave loop is 251 feet of insulated ...

The SA2060A Heathkit antenna tuner restoration Project is now completed and after using it several times a couple of small issues showed up which appeared to me to be worthy of mention . First the coax connectors on the rear are the type fastened by a single large nut this is ok but the nut takes up a few threads on the coax connector and reduces the length enough so some PL-259 connectors can ...

I had not expected so many issues to pop up and take so much time requiring several evenings work . Well the weather turned very cold and it even snowed lightly then rained so this was a good project for working indoors . The shaft adjustments on the back of the variable ...

Do you ever clean the IC socket? Thanks.....
I have a few of these AR-3 sets waiting for some TLC. I hope to get to them someday, I think that would be a fun project.
Awesome story of building the SS9000 at/for Heath to boot! n2eye
Yup use mine every night for Coast to Coast AM 0.850.00
😊
Thank you soo much. I fixed my alarm and saved $136!
Cleaning the grass is the key. Thanks for the information it worked.
Nice. I made one today and it works great. Thank you for posting this to TH-cam
AMEN Morse will NEVER die!!!! 73 OM de VK2AOE. I'm about to build my first tube rig (will base it on the HART 25). It is cathode keyed so TU fer the info....I have a HI MOUND with plastic shield etc. 73
I would suggest that you remove the batteries when the electronics are exposed so as not to accidentally short out the circuit board by dropping a screw, tool etc. on them. Replace them after putting the black cover on.
Cleaning the cavity as you showed, did the trick!! Used a long “dryer exhaust lint brush”. Took a good 10 min and lots came out indeed, but mowers runs fine now! Did not dismount the deck, just lowered it all the way.
yahoooooooo
Thank you
Great idea! I have a Bird slug that doesn't work. I was going to pry the Aluminum plate off the top, and try to fix it. I will try your technique instead.
My Accurite is 10 years old. I took mine down last night, it was filled with yellow jackets, yikes!! I disassembled it under low light and got rid of the pests along with the nest. Now, i need to clean the insides out and figure out a way to keep the bees out of it with some window screen or something that allows airflow but keeps bugs, spiders and bees out! I too use the same grease on the batteries.
Look at the piece of crap transmission
wow 1 tube note sounds great!
I am heading down the rabbit hole of tube loving I'm gonna try build one! tu OM de VK2AOE
Very good and Thanks!😃
Outstanding info, young man!
Inconceivable!!!!
Thanks for this useful video. Best wishes from New Zealand. ZL3ABX
I meant to add, if you haven't already done so, to repair the bent corners, put some duct tape on the top of the jaws of your vice and on the outside of the bent corner (to protect the finish). Place the corner on the vice jaw, bent side down, and gently tap the bend back into shape. It doesn't require a lot of whacking, just a little time and the corner will come out like new without a crease. Just like body work on a car. KD5IL
I have the same unit that I built back in about 83 or so and it is still in use. I also built one of the automatics for another ham and he gave it to me when he got out of ham radio. I promptly sold it and kept the 2060A. Those set screws can be easily handled with a long handled allen set, available at Lowe's, Home base and even Harbor Freight. A pair of pliers on the end will crank them down nicely. I would also recommend a SMALL amount of red Loctite. That will help hold them in place and is easily removed with a little heat (soldering gun). Having stumbled upon your video I am now going to have to go through mine and touch it up. Like I don't have enough to do already. Thanks for the video. I'm going to watch Part 2 now. KD5IL
Pretty funny video is titled "no Soldering" hmmmm....
Bob, your old Heathkit trancievers are probably one of the only ones that work perfectly.❤ You've prolly seen my personal SB-104a at Heath service department many times when working there. 😢 Do you still enjoy fixing them?
Bob … I have same model Husqvarna @ 200 hrs of residential use PTO clutch went out.. along with transmission drive belt pulley wheels .. replace all 3 along drive belt & new deck belt other than no problem with Kawasaki 18hp engine Good Mowing..👍🏼
On your next video would you just get to the subject point and stop all the verbal garbage
I installed one of these this week, what I need to know is how to connect it to my wifi.
I noticed you have two different size fuel inlet line fittings. One for 1/4'" tubing the other for 5/16"?
Thanks!
why have any of u not pointed out to him that u cannot title a video "PL259, Install a PL259 the easy way, Coax connector, PL259 with no soldering" then proceed to use soldering at the end ???
Thanks for this! working on my old 2036A and also a purchased old 2036. Wonder if you have any ideas why receiver sensitiy would be rather poor on the 2036. Its not dead but way down on a given signal compared to my good 2036A.
Can the tones be adjusted to another tone or do you have to change something else ?
Thank you
Thank you ,let see how it handles Arizona's heat!!
It would crumble into pieces like most plastics do in Arizona heat at my parent's place in Apache Junction, lol.
Bob. Many thanks. You are the best kind of Radio Amateur. Your enthusiasm is infectious. 73 Dick N4HAY
you're my hero!
Yet another testimony in favor of the horizontal loop "skywire". On the low bands, it acts like a highly efficient NVIS "cloud burner" and on higher bands it throws out 360 degree lobes aimed right at the horizon for excellent DX performance. Just be sure to disconnect your radio equipment from the antenna when not in use and to ground the Antenna .... lightning strikes within a few miles induce huge currents in this design. For fun, use 450 ohm feedline and rubber band a florescent light tube to the feedline for a cool flashing light show during storms at night.
I have a crapsman that has the exact same problem. The grass will build up under the break/clutch linkages. It will be like shoving a grass brick under the linkage, and the belt will not fully engage to drive the tractor. I have to clean mine out about every couple of years.
You can grab the Allen wrench short side with a small vise grip or pliers. That will provide torque
I just picked up one of those on ebay, whoever built it did a fantastic job, no cold solder joints, or anything like that. Once I cleaned off the dust, cleaned and lubricated the switches and variable with "Deoxit" the meter looks brand new, I don't think the builder and all the other hands that used it over the years didn't use the meter very much, it's a well cared for meter and I absolutely love it!. Great video, thanks for sharing!👋🤠⚡️🎙
I see you made no mention of steps taken to match impedance with the radio's audio output transformer.
Thank you, KD5HBY, 73
Mine was clear but I did notice a linkage to the rear connected to the brake pedal was missing, Thanks Sir!
This video saved me. However, I used a leaf blower instead. I did not know the grass was stuck up in that area.
Heat the jacket with a heat gun so the ferral can slide under the braid.
That was the best explanation and tutorial I've seen done. Great job!. I suggest making your own wrench for these to tighten. I used one of these compression connectors and like them.
The shift differences of 1khz to 10khz of which you spoke sound like the crystal may have become slightly out of parallel, or more in parallel. Grinding on wet dry sandpaper seems less than ideal, since it’s hard to keep the sandpaper perfectly flat, even with the glass underneath. I’ve seen it when trying to flatten knife blades and chisels for woodworking. I was going to try this with crystals on a fine diamond stone snd see where it gets me. I may try with HF etching, even though that stuff is a bit unnerving with the bone damage it can cause. there are a ton of 7500mhz and up crystals out threre, no so many in the 8-9mhz range. I’ve got some gonset gooney birds I’d like to get on the air, and would love to have a few more useful crystals for 2m and 6m for them. Thanks for the informative video!
I wonder if you could set up a sputtering chamber, or make some other way to plate the flats on a crystal in order to bring the frequency back down? I’ve seen in a friend’s lab where they had the ability to do this in order to get samples ready for electron microscopes.
