Q&A: How many Gears does do you need to bike 145km/hr?
มุมมอง 10K10 ปีที่แล้ว
In this Q&A session, Victor Ragusila explains how many gears are necessary for AeroVelo's speedbike, Eta, to reach 145km/hr. Eta is the vehicle AeroVelo is building in an attempt to break 145 km/hr (a new world-record) at the World Human-Powered Speed Challenge in Battle Mountain, Nevada in September, 2014.
Q&A: Why doesn't AeroVelo's speedbike use Golf Ball Dimples?
มุมมอง 29K10 ปีที่แล้ว
In this Q&A session, Victor Ragusila explains why Golf Ball dimples will not be effective for AeroVelo's speedbike, Eta. Eta is the vehicle AeroVelo is building in an attempt to break 145 km/hr (a new world-record) at the World Human-Powered Speed Challenge in Battle Mountain, Nevada in September, 2014.
Q&A: Why is AeroVelo's speedbike so fast?
มุมมอง 23K10 ปีที่แล้ว
In this Q&A session, Victor Ragusila discusses why AeroVelo's speedbike, Eta, will be so much faster than a Tour de France bicycle. Eta is the vehicle AeroVelo is building in an attempt to break 145 km/hr (a new world-record) at the World Human-Powered Speed Challenge in Battle Mountain, Nevada in September, 2014.

Wheelwell Mould Machining at Avion
มุมมอง 65710 ปีที่แล้ว
Avion Technologies in Mississauga, Ontario, has just machined the moulds for our wheelwells. These composite wheel enclosures contain the spinning air around the wheel and reduce the aerodynamic drag they produce (15% of the total power required for the bike). This part is made out of Renshape tooling board, and we'll be laying up carbon composite on the mould for the final part.
Eta Plug Machining at Plasterform
มุมมอง 81710 ปีที่แล้ว
Plasterform in Etobicoke, Ontario, CNC machined the Renshape plug of Eta's outer shell over the last several weeks. This is their 5-axis CNC router in action on a finishing pass! We will be doing final hand-finishing and shaping on the plugs, then casting moulds off of these to lay up the final shell. Exciting times ahead!

Why did you put background music? Just because you could? There is already echo in the warehouse, and background music makes perception of your narration much harder. Did it ever occur to you that if people want to listen to music while watching a video, they will just listen to whatever music they like?

Significant lift enhanced from low ceiling above the craft, and induced low pressure area above it -- reverse of ground effect. It's unclear that Atlas would have succeeded in still air, over an open tarmac, with only the sky above it. The low ceiling also restricted and impacted re-circulation patterns for each rotor at the center of the craft. I'm not sure why the AHS Sikorsky Prize team never questioned this, as it appears to be a carefully constructed breach of the original prize intent. This fact was carefully avoided in their ground effect modelling. Many people flying drones inside have already encountered the strong suction effect of getting to close to the ceiling ... which unlike ground effect is pretty stable, getting close to the ceiling rapidly increases lift until it impacts the ceiling uncontrollably. Google this: "quadcopter near ceilings"

We just need so so much more of this. Imagine if science/development never turned away from human power in favor of various fuels. Progress would be slower but what kind advancements would have possibly been made? We could be living in a world where everything is just powered by our own movement...

Exceptional energy efficient transportation technology developed that the stupid greedy ignorant automakers need to adapt into mass manufactured vehicles, velomobile, scooter, bike, motorcycle, car, SUV, truck, bus, automobiles or passenger vehicles that are aerodynamic like the Aptera solar electric //

Still trying to find a vid that details the steering limits. W/ the 93T main chainring overlapping the wheel it looks like only a few degrees of steering in either direction. So they start straight and better keep it straight because if you veer too much there is no room for recovery. Great piece of work and great results.

This is very cool. And even if such a bike is unuseable in the traffic and daily life it shows the possible improvements of cycle efficiency by an aerodynamic design. Even twice the air resistance of this bike is far less than with a standard time trial bike and would probably be fully useable for daily use. I think that is what the velomobil has. Just a note: at 3:10 the tire definitely protrudes much more than 4mm, closer to 10-15mm.
