Are You Missing Out on this Swim Jig Bite?
Love it from now through spawn... I pop it like a craw.. The hits are hard.. Texas style set up... Black w/red fleck, red shad and blue craw work best for me
Still in Florida? Open seat in my boat all week for Kissimmee, Istapoka.
I am from the north turn living New England
Liking the on the water videos man. The chatterbait hasn’t been a confidence lure for me at all. I have yet to land a fish on one. I finally started getting hit occasionally on them, but I think I figured out I was using too stiff a rod and also braid. According to some videos I watched I likely pulled the bait away from the fish by using improper gear and line and trying to set the hook the instant I felt a bite. Apparently according to some of the videos I should be using a rod and line that give a little and letting them get the whole bait before jacking them. I’m going to give that a try and see. Too many knowledgeable anglers see it as a confidence bait for it not to work. I just didn’t know what I was doing.
Exactly, for increasing your hook up percentage try more moderate rods. And don’t set the hook, just reel as fast as you can and keep your hands steady and that should be enough. Also, I’ve witnessed this bait work everywhere, but on lakes where it doesn’t catch numbers, it catches better than average fish. Let me know how it goes.
@ will do. Thanks for the input. 👊😎
Hey Casey! Are you fishing the Bama Division BFL's this year?
Hey James, no I’m not. I’ll be fishing the Choo Choo division only. Are you?
@ I’m still trying to decide. I was just curious if you were. Thought I might run into you if I did (& if you were fishing Lake Martin).
I think we have the same regional. If we both make it, holler at me!
@ will do!
Gville?
No, Braden River, Florida.
Curado D200? Built like a tank and heavy as a tank. I have one.
I’m back visiting my parents, using some of the reels I donated to my Dad (who fixes them). I can remember getting it for Christmas of ‘08. It is very large lol.
@caseypodonnell where does he get his parts? I usually drive over an hour to get my parts in Dallas if they have them in stock. It's a shame that companies discontinue making parts for the more expensive reels. I've learned the hard way in 50 plus years of fishing to keep worm gears and pawls well lubed. Number #1 failing parts to wear out in my experience.
He usually googles the BN# you will find in the booklet that comes in the box with the reel. He recommends eReplacment Parts or Mikes Reel Repair.
And I took that personally
🤣

Old school trap. ❤
Music to my ears.

Post frontal is definitely different kind of fishing. Used to hate it. Not so much now. Depends on the conditions. Slick and calm is different than windy. Much more finesse the slicker it is .Windy you need a more loud bait. Could be vibration and sound just depends on what they want. Since a lot of fish group up I prefer hunting those schools. The bite is easier to figure out in a school vs hunting solos.
I want to know could you do some videos of spring weather when it gets here
Happy New years by the way Can't wait to get back out there and do some more fishing but your channel is doing good cuz I am making sure I pop on when you want me to be on I don't want to miss any details that you are telling me
Hope your feeling better, heading out today in this frigid Fla cold lol
👍 Good luck!
@ it was tough, but managed a limit.
Excellent video and explanation of the “spike” worm keeper on the Gambler head. What you explained makes sense. I have always used the “owner” screw lock head for my shakey heads with good success. The super razor sharp hooks are what sold me. I never really skipped shakey heads. Thanks. I will try some Gamblers.
I really like your videos, great content in small digestible chunks. Thanks for bringing the great content!
Love the tips on fishing👍 but most of all i Love the Production Studio 🤓🤗
Hello, Brother You are making amazing video content. I just watched the video and your video quality is appreciable. I am so impressed by your content, I was analyzing your channel and noticed that You are struggling with video views and video ranking. May I share some tips on how you can achieve your goals?
Fishing a tournament this weekend... going to be 36...orange lake florida.
Going to Istapoka in the morning, should be a great day. Conditions are right!!
Omg I love that lake this time of year. Let me know how it goes, I’ll be in Florida in a couple of weeks, may have to drive over there.
@ caught 18 in 4 hrs. Biggest was 4.25! Never found the big girls. Come on down, would love to meet you if the opportunity presented itself.
Not all big fish Gold digger the damn system they always stay with this bunch of weeds
Very true! Grass is 🤴.
Casey, thanks for the tips, in Austria, as you know, we have deep and gin clear water...
You’re welcome Joe. I could imagine, Austria is definitely on the bucket list. I may need to try and cast a line when I make it there.
@caseypodonnell You bet !
Thanks Casey and happy X-mas to you and your family !
Great tips - The smaller crankbaits are also deadly in winter when shad are the primary forage - The 6th Sense Crush 25x, PD4 and PD7 are awesome. Just curious - where are you filming your videos? I've been wondering what the backdrop is
Great content Casey! Which is better for hunting bass in shallow water…hybrid hunter or chatterbait?
Chatterbait has stood the test of time. I like the Hybrid Hunter but I’ve only been catching them on it for less than a year. What do you think?
No one keeps anything quiet these days as long as TH-cam exists.
😬
Question, so when you say less plastic in cold water, do you have an example on what to try? Thanks for the video
Zoom Split Tail.
You’re welcome. Hope it helps!
@@caseypodonnell a good ol one, thanks
That’s a toad
Thanks Keith!
What crank is that?
Rapala DT6.
@caseypodonnell thank you
Ole boy you nailed it. But next time you out fishing a creek in October try that red again and make it bang the bottom.
Thank You Jeffrey! I’m going start throwing next trip. I’ll let you know, I appreciate it.
thoughts before watching: If that is in fact the case then i'm going to sell all my tackle and simply keep my swim jigs and maybe a topwater frog or two. Because as a bank angler working towards a boat, a swim jig has caught me countless fish all times of the year up shallow.
It’s such a solid base. Every great fisherman I’m close friends with are all exceptional swim jig fisherman.
David Fritz always said that the most important color on the crankbait is the bottom the stomach area. I always thought that red was such a good color because crayfish turn red during the winter months
Oh the bottom is for sure the most important, that’s the drawing power, that’s what getting the fishes attention, the part of the crankbait which will stand out. Yes Crayfish being the number 1 forage imitated by red.
Oh yes I believe that, the bottom is most important of crankbait, the crankbait guru definitely knows what he's talking about, compare to this video, for example I talk on cb radios a lot, when it comes to repairing one, do I go to someone that's been working on radios for 2 years or that's working on them 35 years, thank you Mr David Fritts for all your knowledge on crankbaits and what color stands out the most.
the reason why I bought that point up was because of your that the bottom is some thing they don't see alot,3:06 into video. I guess those are general guidelines but have great exceptions. Just like cloudy days are better for topwater, right?
Does shad patterns work in lakes that don’t have shad? There are minnows and bluegill
Yes the Shad patterns will do a great job representing all types of minnows.
Thanks, this was very informative Casey.
You’re welcome, Gary. Hope it helps you a catch a couple more fish.
(positive comment here)
😂 thank you.
Love the breakdown, man! I have ADD, so I may have missed it, lol, but can you share the specific brand/model you use? There are so many options out there, and they are NOT all created equal. Tight lines, and thanks for the juice! 🎣
Dirty Jigs Compact Swim Jig.
Appreciate the support and you are welcome. Hope it helps!
👍 !! ! 🧡
Casey. You have a talent for explaining in detail where anyone can understand what you are saying! Thank you
Thank You Avery! Unfortunately where you fish, those Florida Bass go all over the flats and don’t relate to the defined edge like they do on river systems.
One of the beauties of fishing.
If the fish were biting I might of missed it. 🤣
Lol I've posted how good you are at this in the past - doing it again.
The goal is no redundancies! Thank you for the support and your time. 🙏
Thanks. I’ve been wondering why you have that background? The sheet?
I really enjoy the channel, thank you.
You’re welcome. Appreciate your time and the support. 🙏
Theres several reasons to run trailers. Profile is one, you will get less blade hits. The bass will actually inhale the bait deeper with trailer because a spinnerbait skirt has very little mass. One of the overlooked reasons, many spinnerbaits run hook down (Not parallel) and the drag of a trailer helps.
Jackhammers are made by zman. They put the keeper that works best with elastech to encourage you to use their plastics as trailers and to be fair wire keepers do work great with elastech because it's so tough
Screw lock keepers are definitely the best if you want to keep the plastic on indefinitely and also not add weight on the hook. There really needs to be a chatterbait with a screw lock. Hopefully the rumors about Z-Man's patent expiring are actually true so that we might get one lol
Casey what trailer was that on the back of that swim jig i know its a swimbait but which one?
Thanx Casey. I really never fish gin clear and throw gold or painted blades always. Theres also a metal stain I use you can put on with a small paint brush. Clean the blade with alcohol and brush it on. The blade maintains a little reflective properties and looks great. Black, blue, red, white, orange and chartreuse of course. They all have worked but the chartreuse has impressed me most.
Don't sleep on the matte blade jack hammers too in clear water.
