Texas Special: mostly Railsmith cars with a few custom painted Kato cars mixed into the consist. E7's are highly modified Life-Like shells on Kato mechanisms; PA's are custom painted Kato units. The track is finished in the staging yard and I added a few details to some of the scenes around the layout.

This is what you see when you put a Case steam traction engine under load at night and you fire it with sawdust..... 😀

The 1937 and 1938 editions of the Santa Fe Super Chief making laps on my new n scale layout. The 1937 8 car set are brass models by Oriental Limited. Motive power (EMD E1's) are printed shells obtained on Ebay unpainted. I painted, decaled, and detailed the shells before mounting on Kato E7 mechanisms. Digitrax DCC is also installed. My new Bachmann streamlined K4 does a few laps around my layout. I did a few upgrades to the locomotive: I got the chuff rate adjusted to match the side rods, gave it a light weathering job, painted the deck of the tender "freight car color" to match the prototype, swapped out the horribly oversized couplers with a Unimate on the tender and a True Scale coupler on the pilot, and added more real...

All the track with the exception of the staging yard is now installed. Not bad for approximately 7 days of work. 😀

My buddy Matt Gaudynski always likes when I run my Sprint train at shows, so I got it and my "modern" (1970's) motive power out of their boxes and ran them a bit on the new layout. The Sprint train looks right at home running on its home rails between Portage, WI and LaCrosse, WI.

With this update, I've completed trackwork on both the Eastbound and Westbound main lines. All of the large curved turnouts have Blue Point turnout controls installed and have the frogs powered to prevent stalling. I've also completed all the trackwork in Camp Douglas and the two sidings on the Eastbound main in New Lisbon.

I've completed the Eastbound main line and the 1952 Olympian Hiawatha made the inaugural run around the entire layout. Lots of work yet to do, but it's nice to be able to run the entire length of the railroad. My plan is to get the Westbound main completed in the next few days and then start working on all the sidings and various spur tracks.

Latest update on the layout. Foam and track is going down. Trains are running 😀

I just finished decaling, altering some details to make it more railroad specific, and weathering this undecorated Broadway Limited Pacific. I thought it needed a test run on my modular setup. All Milwaukee Road heavyweight cars on the module were painted and decaled by me. New additions include preliminary placement of some track, laying out the towns, relocating Portage Staging, adding Mauston (in the place where Portage Staging was previously).
