Mental Fitness Unscripted Episode 12 Healthy Relationships
Have you ever said, "My job (or life) would be so much easier if I didn't have to deal with people.?" It may be true, but also impossible. People are the best and the worst, right? And sometimes both at the same time!
News Flash: Relationships are difficult.
We may not know how to navigate conflicts and difficulty in relationships because we don't get training on such things apart from our own experience.
So how can we be a good spouse and friend when the other person is being difficult?
How can we be helpful to someone in their relationships when their problems don't involve you?
Part of the answer is to be better at being good to ourselves. Fix your own oxygen mask before helping another with theirs. Stop believing the lies we tell ourselves. Stop keeping score of all the hard and negative things and letting that drive our outlook. Be careful about believing the victim mentality and staying stuck there because we are used to it.
Addressing conflict and difficulty in relationships is really hard in part because it makes us uncomfortable. We prefer comfort over change.
We are challenged to:
-have hard conversations
-to set expectations and 'rules of engagement'
-to believe the best possible intention in the communication from the other
-to ask clarifying questions in communication to ensure messages sent are received as intended Hopefully this conversation encourages you to consider your relationships and how you can take action to make them better.

Episode 11 When We Are Overwhelmed
มุมมอง 222 หลายเดือนก่อน
This episode starts with a little background on how Quadzilla came to life following by an advertisement for the Quadzilla gear shop you can find on my website. Then we get into the deep end on the idea of overwhelm and how to deal with it in a healthy way. Do you ever feel like there is way too much to do between work and home that you don't even know where to start? Surely I'm not the only on...
Episode 10 Donut Syndrome
มุมมอง 312 หลายเดือนก่อน
Todd and Chad discuss an excellent mental health concept inspired by donuts. Sounds delicious, right? You'll have to tune in to learn about the donut syndrome - and it's not about eating more veggies. The illustration will stick with you - and hopefully help you be more aware of the choices you make every day. When we are more aware of our choices, we will more likely make better choices. And w...
Episode 9 Comparison
มุมมอง 152 หลายเดือนก่อน
Episode 9 Comparison How does a simple Dr. Seuss story teach us about mental fitness? You don't want to miss this episode where Chad and Todd dive deep into the idea of comparison. References to Shakespeare and Dr. Seuss might lead you to believe this is a literary podcast, but really they are just a couple guys talking about the stress of comparing ourselves to others, to our younger selves, a...
Episode 8 The Value of Doing Hard Things
มุมมอง 123 หลายเดือนก่อน
In the personal growth and development world it's commonly stated to "do hard things" as a battle cry. Life is already hard enough, so why would the advice be to choose to do hard things? Our natural wiring is for survival which means we are programmed to do the bare minimum to get by, saving our energy for some future catastrophe that will require everything we have. Todd and Chad offer some i...
Episode 7 Truth and Negotiating Rules
มุมมอง 113 หลายเดือนก่อน
Chad and Todd waste no time diving into philosophical topics of truth, consequences, and the challenge of exercising patience. We acknowledge that we aren't saying anything new, but there is great value in being reminded of ideas that matter. And such reminders are the power of our conversations as they encourage us to improve. It's a weekly mental tune-up for us. We hope it does the same for you.
Episode 6 The Sheep, the Lion and the Hamster Wheel
มุมมอง 163 หลายเดือนก่อน
In the CS Lewis classic book, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe the animals in the story provide insightful life lessons. In this episode Todd and Chad apply behaviors seen in the animal kingdom to human behavior for life application that can benefit us all. You can't script this kind of insight, so take a look and be encouraged today. Before they get to the meat of the program, you'll get a...
Episode 5 Receiving and Giving Feedback
มุมมอง 203 หลายเดือนก่อน
I may be a bit biased, but this is a great conversation about the challenges of giving good feedback to others and properly receiving feedback. Feedback can be very helpful to our personal growth and development. Let's not be afraid of feedback and even welcome it. But first, we talk about the pursuit of fulfillment in achievement and the tension between the drive to achieve and the emptiness o...
Podcast 4 The Gift of Mentoring
มุมมอง 374 หลายเดือนก่อน
We begin the conversation by discussing the challenges of healthy living when life and job circumstances make it especially difficult. The reality is that we must change our thinking before we choose to change our habits. We are not compelled to do anything unless we choose it for ourselves. The challenge as a coach or leader is to get others thinking about the choices they can make and why the...
Podcast 3 The Problem with People
มุมมอง 314 หลายเดือนก่อน
Watch Chad and Todd talk about the mindset shift from frustration to curiosity when dealing with people and their problems. Such a change in our thinking can help us offer grace and patience with others who may rub us wrong and allow us to be a source of encouragement or help. Be challenged with us to recognize that everyone has pain in their life, and maybe they need grace, our prayers, or a h...
