Good catch on "Madagaskar". The AoT map is just our map, but turned upside down. And Paradis is indeed Madagaskar. Also, now that you know about it, maybe take a closer look at the background images of the title pages (like the one at 0:39)

13:50 these are all titans we have seen before. the bearded one that ate eren at episode 5 is there too

the episode is so packed, that very few people manage to decipher all the reveals... the moment the owl's identity is being leaked, we are busy with Dina being turned into titan and realising it's the smiling titan. for those who get the owl's identity, they end up being blown away that he's the other titan holder.

It's really poetic how Sergeant Gross's monologue is directed with him staring into the camera. Isayama directed the anime staff to make it like that for the very precise reason. He is actually breaking the fourth wall (literally on the 'fourth wall') and speaking to the audience as well, about how we like to see cruelty and enjoy it. Which is exactly what transpires moments afterwards, almost everyone behaves the way he said. Exemplary stuff

I love the fact that most viewers spend 3 seasons shouting "I need answers! I need more information!" only to arrive at this episode shouting "that's too much information!" Lol.

I've watched many YT channels reacting to AoT (probably more than I care to admit🙃) trying to recapture the thrill of the first viewing of the show, but this is the only channel that I click the 👍 before the video has even begun.

"the next episode is going to be huge" that's an understatement lol

You know what the Bertholdt eating scene makes it so much worse? When Bertholdt woke up, he did not have his memory of what transpired before (the fight) as is the case with Titan shifters when they are fully exhausted and go unconscious (the memory returns in time as we have learnt in the show). So my point is; when he's screaming for help, he is genuinely thinking they're still friends and when his final straw is near he screams out for Reiner AND Annie, because they're his best friends and also because his memory is foggy he has forgotten that Annie is essentially identified and locked away. Makes the scene so much more horrifying.

This explains Levi's decision. At that time, Levi thought of some reasons why people would want to live. Armin had a reason to go to the sea that Levi heard before leaving the city, and Erwin had a reason to go to the basement as well, but the decision was Levi's. He remembered that he had chosen to let Erwin give up his dream and die in the raid, and Erwin had accepted it. So at that time, Erwin no longer had a reason to live, so Levi chose Armin.

You should consider this: Armin's plan(s) involve sacrificing himself. Erwin's plans usually involved sacrificng others. To the point that this weight got to him in the end. Don't get me wrong. Erwin is a giant. A goat. A great leader. But this point is one of the reasons for the moral choice of Armin.

People often don't realize what Erwin is in the grand scheme of things. Scouts are still a thing only because of him. He has been laying the groundwork and doing the dirty work to make sure Scouts are well funded and the spirit of resistance continues. If it was some other commander, scouts would have probably been disbanded way earlier. For eg. In the Levi backstory, he was blackmailing a nobleman to make sure scouts continue to get the funding they need. He is also someone who can find right talent to be effective soldiers, case in point, Levi Ackerman who was recruited from underground when he was a thug. In real life, the only heroes are people like Erwin. Armin, although a great character, is more of a fictional "hero" imo.

It’s interesting to see the contrast between Erwin and Armin’s dreams when Levi was considering who to bring back towards the end. Erwin wanted to get to the basement, and Armin wanted to go beyond the basement to the sea.

Another really cool detail is that this is the only episode in the show without narration. Armins been the narrator so far and he was unconcious the whole episode. Just a small but cool detail.

this is one of the episodes with the least amount of music and action and yet one of my favourites. it really captured the emotions in it.

My heart was broken by the death of Eren and Bertholdt 💔💔💔 This is one of the most heartbreaking episodes 😭😭😭

What I love about the Levi vs Beast Titan fight is that Levi is constantly one step ahead. The Beast defends his nape but Levi goes for the eyes, he realises he can't see and Levi is already cutting down his ankles, he notices that his ankles are gone and Levi is already positioning to strike the nape, he tries to harden but Levi is already performing the coup de grace. He didn't stand a chance

Monke: So what do I do against this Levi guy? Reiner: Oh that's easy. You just use those big stompy monke feet of yours. Monke: You mean, to crush him? Reiner: To get the fck away.
