John presents so clear and simple. The video makes 👍 great. I like Entrance and Exit steps. Seldom videos show this steps skill
Excelente 👏👏👏👏👏
Wonderful
Help me, Tom Cruise!
Fantastic!!
Magnífico.👏👏👏
Silent nag. Hah nice one
Great lesson
I thoroughly enjoyed this Bronze level choreography. Thank you very much for the detailed instruction, John. I also love the Entrance, and the Ending. The SQQ is the same as American Rumba. As to what music I can dance this to, I find I cannot do the steps with Sinatra music (which is SSQQ), . . . but John's steps are OK with Slow Foxtrot, and some Country music.
This looks like a basic Waltz step
Astounding teacher for us beginners. Bravissimo to both instructors!!! Ed C
Why would you tell people you are going to teach them a foxtrot them demonstrate a waltz out of time to the music. Most confusing.
Grate! The best lesson i have seen.
Excellent instructions given which make learning a pleasure. Many thanks.
what about 2 steps forward then one to the left, "Sam"
great basic lesson. easy to follow with partner
Beautiful Box Waltz's first, than Fox Trot lesson. Very nice.

THIS IS NOT FOX TROT! IT COULD BE SLOW WALTZ...BUT THE LEGS ARE NOT CORRECT UP AND DOWN ....THIS IS A STYLE OF YOUR FANTASY! OK BEAUTIFUL BUT NOT WHAT THE BALLROOM DANCE SCHOOLS TEACH!
Guess you did not read this.... "Many steps are shared in Waltz and Foxtrot. But the styling, feel, and timing are different. Bronze Level Foxtrot uses SSQQ, and Intermediate / Silver Level primarily uses SQQ timing, which makes Waltz fit (Silver Level). But you must be careful to be strict on SQQ timing and not to try Waltz Timing! As you progress you would mix Bronze and Silver Steps together for a very pleasing travel around the floor."
Plus, it's American style, not International style, so can be used in a smaller space, and alternates between SSQQ and SQQ timing.
That's the problem with American Ballroom Dance Schools - over 90% of the people come in there wanting to learn 'social dancing' and all these schools can (or will) teach is an outdated strict syllabus. They will not venture out of this rigid lesson plan. They're teaching performance and competition dancing to certain set rules and standards - and people just want to learn how to social dance. But when the instructors are putting on a show - you can BET they're combining the different levels of dance to make themselves look good, while you're scratching your head trying to figure out why they're looking so good performing the basic Bronze dance while you plod around at SSQQ. And frankly, the dance routine he's teaching is within the confines of a Bronze structure. He simply based this dance on the Bronze rhythm box steps. (Bronze) As for his introductory demo - yeah, he was combining the Bronze and Silver Foxtrot timing - which is a heck of a lot more fun and enjoyable to do....especially at a social dance.

This is a waltz. Not foxtrot

You should have read his comments here about that doubt.
What is the name of the tune you are dancing to?
I agree, I’m a dancer- although not on his level but that’s the waltz! Still a good dance. The song sucked too
I have looked at a lot of video's on how to do the Fox Trot. Yours is without a doubt the best. You explain exactly how to do it. Thanks so much for your wonderful instruction.
where is part 2????
Saturday Night Fever Bluray disc special features
Nice video and great instruction but I learned this as waltz. Is this really foxtrot?

Many dances share steps. That's a good thing as long as you don't just do those steps! That would look too dull! Crossover breaks (side breaks) are done in Rumba, Cha Cha, Bolero, and many others. But you don't do them much! Same with Open Breaks, Ladies Underarm Turn, and many others. Enjoy those common steps. Helps you to learn a new dance faster if you already know a few steps to share from another.

Funny, until today I had only seen your "Formal" Foxtrot video. So I watched your comedy skit, Travolta video, Bolero, Singing ones,... wow you are much, much more well rounded than I ever thought. I should have know! Very nice singing voice. Enjoyed all of your videos. Thanks for posting.
