    It's NOT like an ambulance, look in the dictionary, oh wait, I meant look on google, and ambulance is a vehicle capable of carrying a patient. Your vehicle is an emergency medically equipment vehicle for rapid response.

      The best thing you can do for your EMS career long-term is to find a really good EMT resilience course. I cannot recommend this enough. It can make the difference between continuing to enjoy being an EMT and burning out due to chronic high levels of stress. I wish you the best of luck!

      @@squarewalnut240 My guess would be that they are part of a volunteer squad in an area that can't really support hiring career EMTs, which is the case in a lot of places, especially rural or farming towns. 14 is quite young, so I'm interested in their experience. I happened to grow up in a town on the East Coast which had a waiver from the state allowing people as young as 16 to certify as an EMT and work on the ambulance (but no driver could be under 18). And that's the path that I ended up taking. In retrospect, it was not a healthy decision, haha.

    • @scotrule6128
      @scotrule6128 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are a BLS-only ambulance service, that is supported by both Fire and (what use to be Rural Metro), I believe it’s now AMR. Basically they act as first responders, and once the actual ambulance with ALS ability arrives, that unit, be it Fire or Rural/Metro, AMR, etc take over care and transportation. Unless it’s an actual BLS call, then it will be turned over to the Uni.

  • @anthony.welch628
    @anthony.welch628 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The bureau of labor statistics says that there’s only 15% of people who are competent enough to be an EMT paramedic that’s why there is a shortage of them! So I suggest to become an EMR first & volunteer to get your foot in the door?! I’ve been a paramedic since 1998!

    • @scotrule6128
      @scotrule6128 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would submit to you it has more to do with challenges such as on the job injuries and exposure risks, poor pay commensurate to responsibility, and low job satisfaction globally within the health care community. Then add onto all of that, your statistic, if accurate, and it makes perfect sense to me!

      You can become an ECA (Emergency Care Assistant) or ECSW (Emergency Care Support Worker) through applying to a local ambulance trust. Becoming an EMT or Associate Practitioner requires you to complete quite a few courses as you can give drugs and conduct more skills. If you want to become an EMT best thing to do is work your way up from an ECA through the trust you work for, or if you have precious healthcare experience apply for an EMT role straight out. Also the Paramedic role is only achieved through University now, so 3 years full time and you’ll get the BSc Hons in that :).
