Fantastic analysis! You saw a lot of items in the scene that completely flew over my head. I gotta say not once did I ever question "Why didn't they call off the chase?" Maybe that's because the whole thing was that damn exciting... but it would make a lot more sense if they did call it off!

My dad was an extra in this scene. He's the only goon in the financial district not dressed in a suit and is in all denim and a brown venice baseball cap. I think he's seen as the bank robbers are going in and as they're coming out. I think his friend worked as a transport driver for the studio and he helped out and got to be an extra.

You completely miss the point. The movie just shows that criminals and the top echelon of police force are both psychopaths. They're the two sides of the same coin

This was alway my favorite scene as a kids in theatre. Not just an adult. The scene were they show the merchendise on display it reminds me of when my folks takes me to Toys R us or something for the first time. Made me feel so safe and free. An opened up a world of possibilities in my prospective. I actully talk about his all the time. But people dont get it. Ever since i mention it on the actual movie clip on youtube. Some people like caught on. (Your welcome by the way.) I just had explain to says somthing about it on the clip and soundtrack posted on youtube. Because You miss so much more. The choice of music during the scene just melts your heart to child hood wonder. And the diolog between them was acted so peacefully that the lesson was clear. The message was learned to the audiance anyway. And debated fairly. Something we dont have now a days. I could almost smell the surrounding in that whole clean scene. The dark comfy and glossy resturant felt like when my parents also took me to The Rainforest Café. My mind took off into space. That gut feeling of innocents and Adventure Now thats something that will always stay with me forever.

Interesting take. I felt the earthquake in the film was a little over the top, showing a divine intervention in otherwise subtle story telling. The second cannibal scene is not just a repeat of more dangerous cannibals. It's more important. They approach the camp with the smell of food cooking with a sense of hope but when they find the baby cooking, it appears all hope in the boy is lost. The man wonders if the boy will ever talk again. When the boy does finally speak again he manages to find hope in what almost anyone would find absolutely hopeless. He says that if the baby was alive they could have saved it and taken it with them. He then wonders and hopes there are more babies. Afterwards they find a cabin that has not been looted, where they are able to rest for a few days. The man says something like "maybe the fathers are watching us" The movie is probably one of the best film adaptations ever, but the exclusion of the second cannibal scene and replacement with the earthquake was a huge mistake.

This is excellent commentary. Note bene: the images in the murals of the church in which they take refuge are depictions of the Eucharist. The Eucharist being the sacrament in which God the Father allows His only son, Jesus, to be sacrificed, thereby saving us with…His sinless Flesh and Blood. I imagine this is no mere coincidence. Having witnessed the horrors of the unholy devouring of a child’s flesh and blood, we see the holy remedy to the evils of sin: the Eucharist, the salvific supper of the Son of God. The fire represents not only the Holy Spirit that animates creation, but the burning love of God, which we carry within us upon baptism. Perhaps bizarre coincidence…perhaps intentional symbology from McCarthy and Hillcoat. I tend to think the latter. Either way…powerful, remarkable, beauty to break our heart.

Hmm but this runs counter to what the director says about this exact scene-that Hannah is in fact trying to protect civilians while he chases them. But if you want to talk about scenes that don't get talked about, the scene with Portman in the bathtub merits some time.

Someone should make a video essay on how Travis Bickle perfectly encapsulates how the life of an average man is filled with intense, ongoing loneliness and misery. Travis was average height, average body, average teeth, etc. That's what makes Taxi Driver special.

I never really thought about how much of an asshole Vincent was. If you see heavily armed, heavily armored men rob a bank in a civilian rich area, follow them, collect evidence, be detectives. Don’t draw down on them in the middle of the city. I know some law enforcement agencies think about the safety of everyone, bad guys included. Where they will try to catch you when you’re sleeping or taking a dump. But there are some Rambo guys who are like, “Right here right now”. Still though, one of the best movies ever in my mind big part because of this scene.

Understanding the detective's obsessive nature uncovers a lot about this movie. If you rewatch the shootout, you'll see that he: 1. Is shocked by the death of the other cop, but moves on from it to catch the criminals, and has a slightly guilty look about him like he knows that he doesn't really care about the fallen cop as much as he wants to catch the bad guys. You also notice in retrospect, that the other cop only got shot because Al Pacino shot first making the other cop shoot as well, which brought their attention to Val Kilmer who ended up getting the cop instead of Pacino just out of sheer luck. Pacino clearly feels guilty about this, but he wants to get the bad guys more. 2. Hastily takes long shots, because he wants to shoot the bad guys now rather than run up to them for an obviously much clearer shot because he's so worried about losing the opportunity of them being within his line of sight. 3. Is using a semi-auto, whilst the bad guys are using full auto. This contrasts the more reckless criminals, compared to the detective who is a control freak when is comes to the situation. He also is closing his eye presumably to get a more precise shot, which is meant to depict the control he wants out of the situation. 4. Wes Studi is shooting in one direction, but then notices Val Kilmer and turns and actually manages to hit him. This is a very quick and subtle nod to the fact that he, unlike Al Pacino, is able to stop and gather himself and notice other angles while doing his work, while Al Pacino is completely single minded. 5. Al Pacino, when De Niro is about to get into the car, notices the dead cop and that maybe even in his obsession should at least take a moment to focus on telling people to get out of the way, but instead of doing that decides to take a few shots at him, knowing full well that De Niro likely will shoot at him and around the crowd in retaliation and to shoo him away. 6. As De Niro speeds off, Al Pacino is half a mind to take a shot at the stolen car even though its among moving traffic. 7. Then of course, he shoots Tom Sizemore, with the child he's using as a human shield right next to his head being an afterthought. The kid is on top of the dead body with a bullet in its head. He then picks up the kid, perhaps to convince himself that he cares about her, similar to how he wants to think that he takes care of his step daughter when in reality his obsession with his work leads him to completely ignore her to the point she commits suicide (like how the kid was on top of the dead body), with him ironically never noticing the warning signs despite his trademark trait being obsessive ability to read situations and attention to detail.

Richard Attenbo, who brought the character to life, was the one who created this dialogue, he introduced it, despite everything, and it can be seen that when he said it he was aware of these truths and he cried because he wanted the world to realize it and wake up, He was a movie director for that reason, he knew how to convey that pain, captivate with his emotions, and this was real, how nice, of all the movies I've seen, this is the most valuable because of this fragment, when you have an idea, that Depending on how important it means to you, it gives you conviction, meaning, direction, it becomes a thought that can endow it with emotion and life, and from there hope is born, from this gift, faith arrives, and then it is generated and engender a baby, an illusion, of which the longer your mind occupies, it will mature, a dream will gestate, what you have created, will give birth, when you do something driven by that willpower, by this love from the depths of your Being will come out, a created being, similar to your essence, in whatever you do, depending on your intentions, something will come out that will follow said emotions and intentions, when you believe, you create and that depending on you, it can come to exist, at least, then at most, this is an analogy to the human life from which we were created, depending on how similar the materialized thought has been, to our creator, as a single mind thinking, and giving us the opportunity to be fully aware of the reality that is not this, the reality that lives deep within us, and the way to express it, without manipulation, life itself is a being, and we are part of it, and it does not belong to us, and we only have the opportunity to enjoy it, as long as it is allowed, that is already a lot, everything else is God's body and soul, and this is the only part that, depending on his actions, thoughts, returns to him, nor does his wife, children or people, animals It belongs to us, only something that we create from our own spirit belongs to us, it would be the only thing or that we would create an entire system, with a different DNA, without being a copy of what exists if we talk about physical beings such as animals and also with a soul, but this is already impossible that we were not created with that purpose but to preach the gospel, that is why life in this container is so short. And I also suppose that I knew that the demons were angels and very intelligent creatures, of a negative nature, some that were judged evil, but they were given a certain freedom to reduce the frequency of their energy, to materialize underground, and be in the caves that lead to hell, they wanted to live, but since they were physical they needed some nutrients and enzymes since they did not have those properties on their home planet, in their DNA, different, without being a copy of the one that exists if we talk about physical beings like animals and also with a soul, but this is impossible since we were not created with that purpose but to preach the gospel, that is why life in this container is so short. And I also suppose that I knew that the demons were angels and very intelligent creatures, of a negative character, some that were judged evil, but they were given some freedom to reduce the frequency of their energy, to materialize underground, and be in the caves that lead to hell, they wanted to live, but since they were physical they needed some nutrients and enzymes since they did not have those properties on their home planet, in their DNA, they had to kidnap human beings, and cows to be able to acquire these catalysts and absorb the nutrients of the beings they consumed, of course they had the ability to build their spaceships and after kidnapping and killing people and animals one crashed accidentally, and then area 51 was created, where governments allow this captivity, they made a pact with These satanic creatures, to obtain power, in exchange for sacrificing human beings to feed them, also to do experiments with them of all kinds, cross races of all kinds, in addition to creating weapons, with this technology and obtaining military power, intelligence and try to control, manipulate the world like this character in the movie who tried to control the force of nature in a bad way
