I listened to this conversation on the Sensitive Strength website .The validation in hearing our shared experience of trying to make socializing work just warmed my heart! I think its confusing as a child when you are both interested in people but want them to go away and not engage you, at the same time. All the details of Ibinye's journey are just so familiar. Her confidence in navigating socializing made me feel that I am on the right track for finding a way that is better than totally isolating and that I can learn to be confident in expressing my needs in this arena so its not such a huge weighted stressor. The nightmare of surprise parties and having to scope out a restaurant like the secret service had me laughing out loud in my kitchen! I can do whatever I want to do how I want to do them!

I always saw myself as super sensitive, now that I've realized that I REALLY am a HSP I'm finally able to start understanding my needs, boundaries and ways of seeking peace. Thank you for this. HSP awareness is so crucial, and watching your videos has helped me realize that my struggles could have been largely prevented if I, and just as importantly those close to me, had had good information and support. The challenges HSPs face can lead to feelings of inferiority, isolation, resentment, hopelessness, feeling misunderstood. For me, this has led to anxiety and depression, and your kind and clear motivation to help is really appreciated. It helps me feel validated and empowered, and I really appreciate your work.

I SO relate to looking back at my life, all the way to child hood, seeing how I was using so many behaviors to manage my sensitivity without knowing why I needed to do these things . Feeling weird and guilty for needing to do everything differently. My body was screaming for help! I’m sad that my little self’s needs were never validated or fully met and grieve the confidence I could have had in my uniqueness had I know I was a HSP and what that meant. Melissa’s story of insisting on living her true self life is so hopeful even with the inevitable messiness ! I hope I can get to a point where I use all the language I now have to verbalize what I need and why so articulately !

Also, he hates being outside our home, so I have to get creative and find ways to unwind in his presence. This is exactly what I have sometimes! I often call it ”temporary ADHD” but mostly it's just a sign I badly need to rest somewhere in peace and quiet. Thank you!

That's a great description for it!

Now, I have reached the point where I need to take a long break from responsibility. This means quitting my job, as I constantly feel it limits my freedom, even during vacations or weekends. I don't like my job and the reminder of it poisons my free time. At the same time, I feel shameful and ungrateful for having thoughts like this. It's not easy to find a new well-paid job now, and I'm not overloaded with tasks. My work-life balance is quite good. The issue is also that I don't feel my services at work are of any significance. My work is simple unnecessary. That drives me mad sometimes.

It can be difficult to accept that something isn't working when others would find it adequate. A lack of meaning and fulfillment in work is really challenging.

I have all those sensitives and thought I was highly sensitive but now at 45.. learned that I'm actually autistic. It was due to my severe burnout that brought me here. learning how to unhook from over giving was a huge part of trying to heal. and learning that my sensitivity is actually a strength. and to protect it .

Glad to hear you figured out the source of your sensitivity, it can be difficult to do sometimes, especially since autism and high sensitivity have overlapping qualities. Wishing you continued healing and clarity. Unhooking from overgiving is such an important part of the process. 💜
