Sustainable Small-Scale Agriculture
This is our motto here on our Family Farm.

We are a small family farm that consists of raising pastured poultry, egg laying hens, meat rabbits, beef cows, emus, along with a large garden, and some hay land. We believe in raising quality products that are locally, & naturally raised. We take great pride in raising happy, healthy and quality animals. We harvest and process the majority of our animals on our farm ourselves, we also preserve and can a large amount of our garden produce.
Through multiple videos per week Paul and Bailey want to educate, entertain, and share with you our agriculture lifestyle.

How do you identify all of your does? Tag, bracelets...?
I use cage tags on the cages, and tattoos on the does
Hey do you have a video of you building your frame for the cages? Looking to replicate your system. A step by step video would be handy!
@TheShireFarmNH hello, no unfortunately I do not
I see you have some cats in there. The rabbits don't get stressed by having them around? Do the cats go in and out of the rabbit room/outside? Any problems with that?
Hello, yes there are a few barn cats that go in and out of the rabbit barn. The rabbits are used to them.
Thank you for giving your children an opportunity to help out. The preschool teacher here tells you that I’m hearing excellent vocabulary and strong little hands here. Family bonds run deep in your hearts, obviously!😊 The onions also look fantastic!
Thank you for the kind words Laura! Yes the kids are involved with everything everyday here on the farm.
Is the one you recorded male or female?
Female

I have a pet rabbit! She’s a lionhead and she’s rather reserved and timid/startles easy. I have to move states in a few months and was just wondering and thinking about the most comfortable way of transporting her in a carrier. If you have any more advice besides the towel I’ll gladly take it!
@mewloverxd5153 if she does start to freak out in cage. You can put a sheet over the cage to help calm her.
Perfect sound track ❤
@KatieLeann thank you! I thought so too!
❤ love to see you mama. Very motherly thing to say (free day off with no kids, but ur working doing something in the garden so was it really a free day? No. But thats what mamas do, they put the kids and the chores first. Ur one strong mama.
Thank you for kind words! Nailed it 100%! ♥️
Volunteer fireman, we need more folks like you who really care about their commmunity. Well done sir.
@skazzwag8 thank you for the kind words! Yes volunteer firefighters 🚒 are getting harder and harder to find.
so cute lol
Thanks!
I see other videos saying to place in paper towel than in plastic bag.so can u?
Will have to try that
What do you set your incubator on the temperature on
@@buckreynolds7475 99.5 F
Ok
How does the Plastic hold up to the Wyoming wind. I'm in SE Wy and looking at different greenhouses/tunnels for personal use
We have had it on for 1 year and have not had any issues. The key is to get it tight enough and use lots of wiggle wire to secure it.
Just bought a CoolBot yesterday to use in our bedroom. It was very surprising how much they cost.
They are a little spendy but less than buying a compressor for a walk in cooler. For the bedroom?
Is it not uncomfortable for them to be standing/laying on the wire floor?
Not if they have the proper wire and cage mats.
Did you know you can leave carrots in the ground through winter, cover with straw and a tarp, I've dug up carrots a month or two into winter like this and I'm in NW Montana 😊
I have never tried that, to afraid the ground might freeze up. But good to know it can be done. Thanks for the info!
Sooo cute how he is teaching his baby brother...❤❤❤
👍
How Adorable, Momma's little helper ❤
Thanks you! Yes for sure!
Wow❤
👍
Very VERY cool!
Thanks!
This is amazing! I'd love to see a video explaining what y'all are doing, and why it's necessary to coral them. And what kind of folks show up to this? Are they just fellow farmers who are good on horses? Some interviews with you and those guys discussing farmers relationship with bison would be great. Do they ever come on your land, do you love or hate them, are they good for soil, etc. Thanks for sharing this!
👍
There are a few things I would suggest. I have a large ostrich farm in Canada where we produce hundreds of birds per year. The protein in ostrich’s does not need to be higher. It needs to be lower. Protein over 21% will cause them to grow too fast and they have leg issues. I would only assume it’s the same in emu. Also if we don’t get eggs it’s usually a feed problem for us. If your birds aggressively eat all their food then that could be your problem. They should slowly eat food all day long for satiation. Increase your feed until they don’t eat it all in one sitting. Then slowly reduce. It can also be a crowding issue in your pen. Just a suggestion.
👍
Really appreciate your videos, content and delivery.
Thank you for the kind words and the feedback! Much appreciated!
I love seeing folks who care about their animals
Thank you!

@@deepsouthcanarios About 30 producing does and 5 breeding bucks

@deepsouthcanarios around 1,000 kits but not all are born alive, or make it to fryer size
can I borrow one of them?
No, but you can have one.. lol
The cat 😂❤
Ha ha yes!
Guinea eggs.
Yep!
So much good information thank you paul.. I'm just starting having some breeding difficulties but hopfully it takes of soon.
@@Mid-Americabulldogs Thank you for watching! What breed of rabbits are you raising?
@BrokenArrowFarm307 currently Tamuks. i Iive in southwest Missouri on the Oklahoma Arkansas Missouri line, and found a breeder with good lines. Since it gets over 100° almost all July and August here.. I would like silver fox though
@Mid-Americabulldogs oh that's very cool! Tamuks do look like a cool breed.
@@BrokenArrowFarm307 they're supposed to be very hear tolerant the breeder said unless it gets over 110° he doesn't really even worry about the heat or sterilization..
@@Mid-Americabulldogs that's what I have heard, a very good breed for where you live!
I’m looking into raising rabbits to feed my dog and sell the pelts. I’m in Alberta so if can get pretty hot and pretty cold. Right now I’m thinking of satin rabbits. Any other recommendations or warnings you suggest?
Satins are a great breed! I'd reccomend keeping them inside a building. We can as low as 40 below 0 Fahrenheit here in the Winter and as high as 110 Fahrenheit in the Summer. I'd imagine you have a similar climate.
Guinea
Yes!
I love the thoroughness of the information.
@mrzoukdotcomzouklambadaboo8212 thank you!
When does it usually freeze where you live?
What types of tomato 🍅 pests have you experienced this year?
Ahhh, that's sweet! :)
It sure is!
Growing in the cold is possible, but I guess you did not properly choose what to grow outside.
You are correct! Definitely swap a few crops around for next year.

Can't find comfrey seeds where I am and even if I can, not sure if comfrey would survive in tropical areas. Maybe I'll try lemongrass.
👍
Good information. Love and greetings from Germany.
@@katipohl2431 thank you! Germany!? Awesome!
Great video. Straight to the point, well done. You deserve way more likes! This is also a cool idea, using one crop to ward off unwanted weeds. Ten years ago I planted photcarpus hedges on raised mounds around my main garden. They have grown into a great wind break, as well as a weed barrier. Nothing grows around their trunks, and I use their trimmings as mulch at their bases, just letting them fall and then raking the trimmings around the trunks. None of the grasses or weeds around my garden encroach on the garden itself.
Thank you!
I've never heard of this technique, thanks for sharing it.
You are welcome, thank you for watching!
How long the daily chores take you each day? Not breeding but daily chores ..
@aleksandraola5250 for just the rabbits, about 15 minutes if you don't include the maintenance chores such as breeding, palpating, weaning ect.
We been using everbreed for a few years, the desktop vertion works a lot better. lol
Do you feed the Comfrey to the rabbits?
@manwithbeers as of now, we have not.
My chickens love it. It also makes great compost. Also use it as a liquid fertilizer.

Question of the day. Do roosters poop out eggs? His next questions, what came first the poopin' rooster or the egg? 🤭😘 Soooo inquisitive and CUTE!!!
@crmbaker ha ha yes!!! He's full of questions for sure!
While I love your content Paul and I appreciate the hard work you do but it really bothers me when I see a dirty rabbitry. I think of all the dust on everything , smell, and overall health of the newborns are put at risk as well as a fire hazard. I saw lots of areas that must be fly infested and honestly I understand it’s a working farm. I raised 300 goats/kids every year and I understand time constraints but twice a year is simply not enough in my opinion. I raise rabbits (15 does and several Buck) as well and it’s cleaned every day. I also have 12 German short hair pointers that I breed as well as exercising them several times a day with their kennels and playrooms that need to be cleaned daily as well. Please try to do better.
👍
These birds are a lot more different from most birds. They make drumming and rumbling sounds instead of chirping or screeching.
