    I haven't seen this project before. It seems that provision has been made for the new bridge to span further tracks. Is it planned to move the entrance to the marshalling yard?

    Dennis, being a former resident of West Avenue 1964 - 1980, plus my father lived there up to his death in 2017, somewhat disappointed that we didn't see much of West Avenue, other than the southern end & up to the Park. Happy memories of Clarty Lane as was.

    Thanks for posting this! I grew up in West Monkseaton in the sixties and seventies and it was great to see such a good quality aerial view of all the old haunts. Our house was at 40 Grange Park. It has been expanded quite a lot in the intervening years. There has been a fair amount of new building on the Earsdon side of the station, which used to be an open cast mine in the '30s when most of West Monkseaton was built. The old mine was just fields by the '70s. Nice to see how well preserved the station is! The art deco design was quite delicate and needed a lot of maintenance. The platforms used to be wooden planks and there were wooden waiting rooms back in the day. On the other side of Earsdon Road was Dickies Home Farm, run by the Potters. I knew of James Potter who was a couple of years below me at school. The whole form seems to have been demolished. We often played at the pit heaps behind Thorntree Drive. There were great paths for riding bikes.

    I can't see any wagons being scrapped !! I think they are in storage more likely ! Thought there was a desperate shortage of this JNC type open aggreagtes types of wagon ? Yet here they are sat idle ! What a waste ! On another note surely there's potential for rail traffic traffic to be delivered to here ? Concrete segments ? Aggregate ? I suppose the company here don't use enough though to make the traffic viable ?

      @@BJHolloway1 There are onlt two lanes, your eyesight is fine. Loads of sliproads come on and off the main road, which gives the impression of the left-hand lane being the 'middle' one. It isn't. It's the left-hand lane of the two-lane A1, and traffic on the A1 needs to keep in it.

      @@BJHolloway1the video is at least a year old, and doesn’t reflect current situation at all. The new rail bridge does allow for 3 nb and 4 sb lanes, and has been open to traffic for quite a while now. They are about to start demolition of the old railway bridge and its approach embankments.

    • @Paul_707
      @Paul_707 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@BJHolloway1 the video shows traffic still running on the old 2 lane bridge, the new bridge that will have all the extra lanes is alongside it. The video was well out of date when first uploaded, traffic had already transferred to the new bridge.

      Staying in the middle lane is more efficient. You don't have to drop back to allow cars to merge and it allows cars merging onto the road easier.

    Its a disgrace that the A1 is mainly a dual carriageway road and parts of it not lit at night. If it went through Islington it would be the best road in UK

    • @chrishall7498

      the vast majority of dual carriageways are not lit, the absence of lights means its a 70 limit unless repeater signs are there, like in this section where is annoyingly 50 until beyond newcastle

      It's a matter of population density, new roads get built where there is the most population, and it becomes self fulfilling, because people then choose to live and locate businesses where there is good infrastructure. That's why the UK has a massive economic bias to the overcrowded South East; other countries recognize this problem and spread it out. Blame the treasury green book.
