Carl is correct, you were given 3-5 days rations and it was a lot of hardtack and beans which took up a lot of space. You barely had room for the food let alone personal items or cleaning items. In fact, there are quite a few videos online showing exactly how they packed their haversacks back then.

Yes, it would be great if the styles were a little varied. I have painted some of the regular troops in green to represent an the Irish and Clinch Rifles regiments. Thanks for your comment and support for the channel :)

I have seen people trim the other hats to make them look like Kepis. It does seem to work at this scale :)

Thanks for the awesome feedback. The watered down Agrax is a neat trick, as it not only creates subtle shading, it also hides any areas where I might have missed with the base coats. It seems to work well on larger scale miniatures too :)

Welcome to the fantastic world of Epic scale battles John. I started with the two p[layer set too. I started painting both armies, but my friend Aaron wanted to pay the Union side, so I concentrate on the Confederate side. You are going to have so much fun :)

Contrast paints are your friend for these John. They make it so much easier for the base coats :)

I started playing Black Powder with my 28mm French Army, but got hooked with the Epic scale for ACW. So much fun to have huge armies on the board.
