Vision 2040: What next for the City of London’s bold vision for transformation
In this episode of Urban Forecast by Ackroyd Lowrie, we speak to Shravan Joshi, MBA, Chair of the Planning and Transportation Committee at the City of London Corporation. Shravan discusses the transformative Vision 2040 framework, which redefines sustainability, heritage, and urban growth in the Square Mile. From addressing the embodied carbon of buildings to balancing modernisation with the City’s rich 2000-year history, Shravan offers a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to plan for the future. We explore the rise of retrofit-first strategies, the power of green finance, and the role of global collaboration in building a truly sustainable urban environment.

People that have never built anything in their life are suddenly going to build 1.5 million homes. Do me a favour.
Won't need to built houses, all the old people are gonna be gone this winter and loads of houses will be free for our guests from other countries
Yes but I want the choice to be able to have a car
No such thing pal
In my local area, private tennants can expect to pay £900/m for a 2 bedroom flat. 2 bed flat from the council is about £420/m. New builds are on the market at £130-£140k for that kind of property, how can you cover the cost of the property, plus the borrowing cost at 5% to buy it, the new windows every 30 years, new kitchen every 20 etc etc on £420/m plus manage them. That also doesnt take into consideration private landlords pick the best tennants, social housing literally get the worst, low income, antisocial behaviour etc etc which results in greater damage and or wearing of the housing stock. Social housing doesnt work currently, not without massively increasing rents. Every HRA is near breaking point and are extending themselves excessively to build new houses at a massive loss of cost over potential revenue, increasing the borrowing burden and increasing interest burden. New build housing projects are going to sink our HRA's.
Local councils heavily in debt. What could possibly go wrong?
Bc sex without covenant and sex without love is a false concept creating a false narrative.
