Sequential Prophet-6 First Run Through
The first run through of the Prophet-6. Haven't even scratched the surface of what this beast can do. But so far, I love it.

New Gear Acquisition: Prophet-6 Desktop Unboxing

I am now the privileged owner of a Sequential Prophet-6. This was the synthesizer I knew I'd pull the trigger on if I ever downsized my keyboard arsenal. One of Dave Smith's flagship synthesizers, the Prophet-6 takes players back to the days of the iconic Prophet-5 synth, which defined the 80s. This new synth is an absolute beast. 2 VCO's, 4-pole low pass filter, 64 step sequencer, and a multit...

I made the decision to downsize my synth arsenal and sell my two beloved workhorses that I've had the privilege of owning for the better part of 8 and a half years. I knew it was time to move on and these just weren't getting enough use. This was honestly the first time in over a year I'd plugged in my Juno-6 and the first time since around May of 2024 I'd plugged in the Polysix. I sure hope th...

So I've never been a big Tom Petty fan, but damn if this isn't one of the best songs I've ever heard. Of course, the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer introduced me to it and it works so perfectly in the trailer, I just had to do a drum cover. Enjoy!

Quick demo of my most recent acquisition. Very surprised there aren't ANY demos of this amazing pedal on TH-cam. Simon Wright (AC/DC, Dio) was my favorite drummer when I was in high school and the Premier 252 was his pedal of choice. So this pedal is super nostalgic for me. And I actually owned one for a short time but it was beat to hell and barely functional. This one is near mint and plays u...

Another classic from Dawn Of The Dead. I definitely took some liberties with this one. But still had fun with it! Decided to bust out the Vic Firth Rute sticks for this. I've had them for probably 24 years and they're incredibly beat up, but still have some life left!

NICE!!!
Hey Paul - it's the fellow who sold you the élkorus. Wow - both, huh? I dunno man - while the Juno was my very first real synth at age 11 in 1982, and it was the synth I learned basic synthesis with - the Polysix was one I always coveted when playing it in the music stores. It was the gorgeous SSM oscillator and filter, extra octave down for sub-osc, separate LFO for PWM, the differently curved envelopes and of course, the excellent effects section. The basic sound of the Juno is so sweet and nice, but it can't go to ugly extremes - one big sweet spot with that ever-present, broad chorus. The strings were nice, but the Polysix strings are much more vintage sounding and moving with that special ensemble chorus setting - the whole synth lent itself to lots more unusual tones and encouraged exploration. The modern upgrade options for both synths are really nice and useful too. Here I go yapping away again. Anyway - best of luck with the sales! I know you'll get some good prices for those beauties! Happy holidays to you and your family!🎄
Thanks for the kind words! I assume this is John Hunter? I do miss them both these synthesizers and they'll always hold a special place in my heart. Especially the Polysix. Those glorious, unmatched Polysix strings from the Ensemble effect... a thing of beauty. I ended up getting a Sequential Prophet-6 Desktop and so far have zero regrets. It fits the bill perfectly for what I need, is relatively easy to use, and the sound is incredible. I'm a huge 70s/80s soundtrack guy and the Prophet sound is all over everything. So the Prophet-6 will be a fantastic sound bulider. But even just going through the factory presets on it, I'm finding a ton of useful sounds, especially with the original Prophet-5 presets on it. And of course, I'll definitely be running the Elkorus through it at some point. Hope you're doing well and Happy Holidays!
Where do you get those roto toms
@@Andromida-ni5oj Reverb.com would be your best bet. Huge selection and very reasonably priced.

So that's why Peter twice abandons the AR-15s. Once at the Store door and another dropped before takeoff at the Mall.
good fun, love The Gonk - Herbert Chappell's finest work 🙂
@@SynthAddict thanks synth! Happy Halloween!
What a unique pedal. I want one!! Also, great groove!!!
I'm in love with it. Next to my DW 5000 Accelerator, this will 2nd in command. The 252 is like a Speed King pedal on steroids. Very similar functionality, but more advanced.
gotta love them roto toms🙂
So smooth
How does the elkorus do when you slow down the rates? I know thats not the famous fast warble thing, but ive done the arturia solina with modified plugin ensemble effects (d16 Syntorus 2) and it sounds great too. Ive got a Bolina on the way. Is there anything even remotely similar to the elkorus but cheaper? Maybe Behringer would make a tweakable standalone version of their modulation circuit one day!
I haven't really tried the Elkorus at a slow rate. Just doesn't get THAT sound, if you know what I mean. But with the right settings on it, it nails the string machine sound better than anything else. And to my knowledge, there's nothing else out these that does the same thing for cheaper. You can run external audio through the ensemble effect on the Behringer Solina though, and that sounds awesome. Currently, there is one Elkorus on Reverb. Extremely expensive though. But it truly does set the standard for the ensemble effect sound.
very dope
great coverage - I should have watched this before going to LDW this year as I didn't know about the old B&P lot location 🙂 I also ran out of time for stuff I had on a map like the Wampum storage location for Day (external only of course), the old estimated projects location for Dawn, and a few others. Although the Nike missile site for Day (underground elevator scenes) was on a map it's a residential neighborhood now so absolutely nothing to see there. More adventures for next time. 🙂
@SynthAddict this was fun to do! Getting to see the B&P truck yard was definitely the best, besides the mall of course! The people there couldn't have nicer and were super cool about me just walking around the area.
good stuff, been using Mellotron since GForce Software had the M-Tron plugin around 2007 or so, and they keep adding to the digitized tape libraries so much stuff now it's crazy, even the Optigan flexidisc player sounds that Kraftwerk used a bunch in the 70s to get past the Mellotron's 8 second tape limits of each key Did they solve that in the new hardware with a loop option or does it still "stop for rewind" although digital in about 8 seconds to be faithful to the original?
@SynthAddict the Mellotron Micro still only holds a note for 7 or 8 seconds, even with a sustain pedal. Oh well. They definitely kept it as authentic as possible. Adding the Space Echo helps out alot though. And I also use a Morley Volume/Wah pedal so you can get some nice swells.
Thank you so much for making this! I'd love to do my own tour one day. For any Dawn fan, seeing these places in person has to be a massive buzz.
My pleasure. Seeing the airport in all it's glory before it was demolished was a definite bucket list item for me.
Fantastic! I plan on heading to the mall soon from FL. Can anyone tell me if the airplane hangers are still standing?
Unfortunately the office building and hangers were completely demolished last year. There's condos being built and there's pretty much no sign that Dawn Of The Dead was filmed there. Very sad, but I'm glaf my video serves as memory of it.

This video gives a hint at what effects can do with even a very simple source sound. At its heart, the PolySix is a simple 1-VCOper voice synth, but if you add LFO, chorus and reverb, you can get something magical. For anybody out there just getting into making music with a daw, start with a very simple, boring even, synth tone, record a simple phrase, then loop it for repeated playback, and each time it plays back just experiment with all the effects you have, just to see what they do.
@@stevehofer3482 In all honesty, you simply can't play a Polysix without some sort of outboard efx. For me, it's delay and phaser. Absolutely beautiful.
sounds great, nice Phantasm riffs - the noise adds character just like the noisy Juno-6 chorus does 🙂 I got a free Juno-6 from a co-worker in 2008 when he saw how many synths I was buying through eBay and receiving them at work (he was the shipping guy) so he offered me his old Juno-6, still in the box and was in storage since 1983-4 so it looked brand new that many years later 🙂 good stuff
@SynthAddict still in the box... that's incredible! Juno-6's are insanely expensive right now, but to get one these days in the original box is really rare. I love the Juno-6. I've had mine for a little over 8 years and it's fantastic. Not sure if I'd ever part with it, but if i did, I'd most likely get a Prophet 6.
@@pfmdude yeah Juno-6 is a special sound- not a lot of variation but many sweet spots, used it a bunch with a friend in older jams Love my Alpha Juno as well and the PG-300 editor makes it easy to program Classic 80s gear - my fav is the Kawai SX-240 and also the Akai AX-80 Look cool, lots of control, and sound very diff than Roland I have indiv videos but I should do a comparison video
nice job on this - like we talked about at LDW '24 🙂I-76 rules
@SynthAddict it does. I love that game and always try to revisit it a couple times a year. No other auto combat game comes close to it.
