Trying to replicate Sykes' tone with the II C mode on the Mark V. His tone is tricky af because it's been said that Bob Rock split his two MK III Coliseum in stereo with a DD and tracked one side with a little bit of modulation and then doubled everything afterwards. Here, I tried to do the same with Celestion SIRs, I used 3 different mics with a G12 65 Speaker and tracked in stereo with the ri...

The SD-1 boosting a Marshall is THE application this pedal is known for.
@@CaptainAhab-im3kd I agree, it’s a killer combination!!
good stuff! Im a big fan of Slash's guitar tone.
thanks buddy!! Totally agree, Slash's guitar tone is smth else!!
I heard that Mister Tinkertrain. Absolutely killer tone even straight in.
thanks buddy! I'm a big Zakk fan!!
Hands down best Marshall I have ever played. I never use boost because it’s just so good!
yeah, even tho it's a one channel amp it's super versatile, can get so many different tones out of it.
@ 100% they say it’s Marshall’s best amps in the last 20 years .
It doesn't quite come through on youtube audio, but the Plumes is so @#$% bright I sold it and never looked back. Like there's some ultra high treble in it that can't be dialed out with the tone knob.
I always use it with the toggle switch in the middle, it's the most balanced mode on the pedal IMO
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
have you modified the amplifier?
nop, no mods!!
Killer tone 😎🤘🏻🎸 this amp sounds phenomenal. I really dig how the blue channel sounds with the boss sd-1. especially like how the green Channel sounds with the boss ce5. Very zakk wylde like.
thanks bro! Yeah, this amp is very pedal friendly, the blue channel sounds great with the SD1, instant Marshall ballpark, the low end is insane too, sounds huge in a mix.
@ I’ll bet it does sound huge in a band mix. That evh amp along with the peavey 6505 and the Randall rg amps are one of the best guitar amps for metal 😎🤘🏻🎸
@@alexskibicki2262 yeah, I have a few amps and the EVH EL34 is by far the meaniest sounding of them all.
thanks for the demo! how does it compare to the sd-1 as a boost ? better or juste different?
thanks for watching bro! Hmmm, I think they're just different, the Plumes sounds more transparent and fatter while the SD-1 has more mids and sounds more aggressive and tighter.
@@guitarlair thanks 😊
Did you boost the front end at all?
@@Ricky42147 no boost at all.
@@guitarlair Wow, that's impressive
@ yeah man, this amp sounds really tight, I think Sykes never used any booster either.
Clip C137, it still needs to be done whether you use an OD or not.
@@PK22-b7v no, it doesn’t.
It's a very Overkill tone. 💚
super, this amp has gain for days!!
Amp modded? Cap clip
nop. No mods...
@@guitarlairI did the c137 or whatever mod, going back to stock… I like Marshall better, this is very close but misses the sparkle of the marshall
@@PainterDans I love the blue channel on this amp, simply because it’s the only EVH where the blue channel is very different from the red channel, the blue channel sounds very raw, it works great to play grunge and 90s stuff and if you boost it then it becomes a rhythm metal machine.
Sounds HUGE! The SD1 sounds really good into the Blue channel
Thanks bro!! Totally agree with you, a lot of ppl didn't like the Blue Channel on this amp but I think it really comes to life and sounds killer with an OD in front of it.I'd say blue for rhythm and red for leads on this amp.
Oof, that sounds good.
thanks buddy!!!
@guitarlair is this the 50 or 100 watt? Just curious if you are playing this at low volumes? Or cranked with attenuation?
@@allboutthemojo it's the 50w version!! I"m playing with the master almost halfway on the sweet spot and using a Torpedo Captor.
@@guitarlair thanks. I didn't know this amp had a master. Was just asking because usually tube amps need to be cranked to sound good and a 50 would be too loud for that indoors
Nice tone and playing 🎸
thanks buddy!!
Sounds absolutely amazing! 😮 if you don’t mind me asking, what load box do you use with your sv20h?
Thanks buddy!! I use a Torpedo Captor!!
Nighttrain intro sounded great!
@@8CountAudio thanks buddy!!!
That amp is VERY loud! Did you use an attenuator? Or just cranked it up and went for the tone? I guess a Dimension C pedal would add even more 80's flavor than the CE5.
Thanks for commenting bro! I cranked the amp and used the Torpedo Captor straight into Celestion DSRs from SpeakerMix Pro.
Thank you for tribute to Gary Moore
@@babekazimi thanks buddy!! Gary is a legend!!!
Double tracked.
yes sir!!
@@guitarlair Everything sounds better when its double tracked.
@@akasgsvirgil9503 yep.. that's why guitars are usually double tracked, BINGO!
@@guitarlair Yep and that's why its good form to make mention of that fact so weekend warriors and bedroom rock stars will understand this amp does not sound like this out of the box. BINGO! 😉 Cheers on the rig and tone!
@@akasgsvirgil9503 but it DOES sound like this, the only difference is the wide stereo effect that fattens up the sound... an amp can sound however you want it to sound, it only depends on you and your gear. I'm showing here how it sounds with me playing with my own gear... idk what people are using in their bedrooms, that's why I add what I used on the description and my own settings. ;) Cheers!!
It's 100% there with the middle and treble sound It's just missing a bit of the low end....but still sounds better than most of the slash tones I've heard on youtube
@@jimmyjackson3117 yeah the little amps don’t have that low end that the big boys have… but I don’t think it really matters in a mix.
The IIC+ was an '800 killer
yeah, it was the Mesa version of ideal gainy amp at the time... I personally love both!!
GREAT sounds! Could you share your SD-1 settings?
thanks buddy!! SD1 settings are: Level all the way up, Tone at 1 o'clock and drive at 9 o'clock.
🤘👏🔥
thanks buddy🤘
I want that amp!!!
this amp has been in my bucket list forever...it surprises me every day!!
@@guitarlair it's got a lot of cool overtones in it
@@None888. it's so versatile, you can play anything with it, from blues to metal.
Great tone...🤘
thanks buddy!!
Great sound ! Is the Chorus on the FX-Loop or front ?
@@baptistemartin thanks bro.. I use the chorus in the loop!!
It's not the Slash tone but it's a very good hardrock tone
@@chocolatecookie8571 thanks bro!!!
I love the tone and the playing gj man ! which attenuator are you using ?
Thanks bro!! I'm using a torpedo captor!!
@@guitarlair is it worth it as an attenuator and cab sim ? Because i'm lost between all the attenuators on the market (Suhr, Ox, Fryette,boss...)
Love that Silverchair riff
thanks bro!! They have some sick riffs 🤘
is it just with a phone camera? if so, thats badass!!!
no bro, it's connected to IR's
@@guitarlair what IR loader did you use?
@@kotzenkotzen6392 Celestion SpeakerMixPro
@@guitarlairthank you!
Well..unfortunately..20watts remains 20watts..It’s same the old story..
yeah, you won't have that huge headroom and low end of the big boys.
great sound brother!!! I had the mark 5:25 for a while and had it in the mark IV mode 99% of the time...found a near-mint big boy mark IV at the start of covid for a great price...needless to say the mark 5:25 is no longer with me!!! I pair the IV with either a badlander 50W or an engl fireball 100 in a stereo rig...killer!!!
Thanks bro!! How do you compare the MK 25 with the Mark IV? Did you notice a big difference in tone and headroom?
@@guitarlair in the tone, not so much of a difference... but headroom, holy freaking loud and full!!! I've had it for over 4 years and have yet to play it at full bore...I only play at home and don't want to injure the dogs!!!🤣
what speaker and cabinet you are using here?

Awesome Job. Big like 👍🏿
@@chupiconverge6034 thank you bro, appreciate it!!
Sounds great! What are the bass and drums plugins?
@@jacksonX77 thanks buddy..they’re backing tracks, the only plugin I used was the STL.
@@guitarlair where'd you get the backing tracks?
Damn that fucking rips🤘
thanks bro!!! 🤘
That sounds really good, and thank you for not scooping out all of the 750 on the graphic!..that touch of chorus is perfect too…I have been debating on whether to get the MarkV 25 or the Synergy IICP..I just want the the IIC+ sound,it’s such a great sound..
@@scottpeters4401 thanks man!! Totally agree with you, im not a fan of that scooped Metallica tone, I’m more into John Sykes and hard rock stuff… this amp is amazing, so versatile…I almost got the synergy rectifier a few weeks ago, the only reason I didn’t is because it’s sold out on the website, those amps sound amazing, I think the IICP is a good option for sure!!
@@guitarlair Completely!!..the Sykes,or Brad Gillis Speak of the Devil sounds are the ones I want to emulate…I will probably go with the Synergy IICP,because I already have a couple of power amps, but the MarkV25 or 35 is pretty tempting too…I had an original IIC+ back in the 90’s…I traded it in the 2000’s for a Line6 Pod rack, and an Ibanez Destroyer..a decision I have regretted for years, but to be fair,IICP’s back then weren’t expensive, not the 10 grand they go for now…
@@scottpeters4401 yeah...these amps are pretty pricey nowadays but I believe the Synergy is a very good option, I've been wanting to get one in a while... just waiting for them to re-stock their rectos and I'll get one, also have multiple power amps from my amps so using a Synergy preamp with them would be nice!
@@guitarlairI feel the same way about the scooped sound ...
@@Bls-of1ld Honeslty I hate Metallica's guitar tones..I actually don't like Metallica at all to be fair lmao
Super cool!
@@hkt48man57 thank you!!! 😊
Very nice subtle use of the chorus 🤘
@@cassl7001 thanks brother!! I like adding a little bit a chorus for rhythm guitar, it makes the tone wider and a little less sharp.
Sounds killer ⚡️
@@MaxMCMLXXXV thanks buddy!!!
You've truly earned my admiration-bravo!
glad you liked, thanks buddy!!
How about some UYI?
I think Slash used a modded JCM800 to record the UYI albums, so the tone is a little bit different.
Sounds amazing! What were the settings of the plumes?
@@yomitsik thanks buddy.. I normally dial the level around 12, tone at 2, add a little bit of gain and leave the toggle switch in the middle on mode 2 (it just adds a natural drive without compressing too much the tone).
Thanks buddy! Do you think a ge-7 can also make the amp sound like that?
@@yomitsik absolutely, I just added the Plumes to push the amp a little bit with a little bit of gain and mid/high frequencies.. I've been chasing his tone for a while, he used a modded Super Tremolo with an extra gain stage on the Appetite album, I noticed that all these Plexis are in the same ballpark, you just need to EQ them a little bit with the right frequencies.. the amp itself will get very close to his tone but it lacks that extra pre gain stage that pushes the amp to get that snarl sound, if you crank the master on a Plexi it gets farty and you lose definition, so his tone comes from that extra pre gain stage, he doesn't crank the master on his amp, he find the sweet spot on the master volume and pushes the amp with that extra gain stage, you can very successfully replicate that extra gain stage with a clean OD or an EQ.
Thanks for the informative answer! I actually have the sv20 and the sc20, both combo, but can’t get the exact same snarl sound 😕
@@yomitsik np man!!try using different speakers...do you use any attenuator? IRs? how do you normally connect your amp?
Have you jumped inputs on this? The SD-1 is amazing, works so well with EL34s the asymmetrical clipping gives a real edge to the tone
yes I have, the amp settings are exactly as shown in the video. I love the combination of the SD-1 and the drive of the amp, the SD-1 really pushes the amp hard and brings that snarl to the tone.
Your video makes me happy! Awesome tone 👌
