I'm Rob, and I love to ski. I create the videos on this channel as a way to share my excitement for the sport and to engage with the ski community.
Finally, I got the videos from the 2024 Telemark Buddy trip in the Chic-Choc Mountains on Quebec's Gaspé Peninsula posted. Lately, I've been working on the footage from Le Massif on that same trip. I hope to post that content soon. Last season's Colorado footage is in the hopper, but I have a feeling that the new season content will start to take precedence.
The 2025 season is shaping up with another Telemark Buddy trip to Whistler, more time in Colorado (A-Basin, Copper, Steamboat & some backcountry), and the remaining days largely in West Virginia (Timberline Mountain, Snowshoe, & hopefully White Grass).
If you like the videos, let me know. And, subscribe to be notified of new posts.

Telemark Buddy Ski Trip '24 | Part 4: Le Massif de Charlevoix
Before our trip to the Chic-Chocs, our group of telemark buddies met up in Quebec City and skied a couple of days at Le Massif de Charlevoix. This is an edit of the first of those two days. On this day, all of the skiing was on-piste.
Thanks as always to our buddy René-Martin Trudel of Absolute Telemark (www.absolutetelemark.com), who guided us around Le Massif and provided some personalized instruction to each of us.

Powder Day Tree Skiing | Third Alley at Arapahoe Basin

You don't want to be out in the open on a snow day at A-Basin. Cue the Alleys off of Pali chair. Visibility is good in there, and the snow really piles up in the trees. Such a great day. 4th Gully | The Steep Gullies at Arapahoe Basin
มุมมอง 135ปีที่แล้ว
This edit is from my first couple of times down 4th Gully at A-Basin, Colorado. In the Steep Gullies terrain, I had previously only skied first and second gullies. This one is also great, with tight sidewalls, some trees, and a real character of its own. I took a number of photos with my Fuji X-T30 camera and included a handful as a photo recap at mid-run. Then skied out and time lapse for the ...
Gauthier & Janitors Only | Arapahoe Basin
มุมมอง 1.4Kปีที่แล้ว
The Steep Gullies and East Wall get a lot of attention, but Gauthier (aka 5th Alley) is actually one of the steepest runs at A-Basin. The entrance to Gauthier is off the left side of Fourth Alley, a ways down. Gauthier is a favorite, but this was just my first time skiing 'Janitors Only'. A fun run, for sure! The entrance is off the traverse to the Pali lift and requires a bit of a hike back. S...

This 'Part 3' video is day 5 and part of our last of 6 days skiing together in late January and early February 2023 in Quebec. It was so cold on day 5 that Le Massif was actually closed for safety reasons. So, no lifts. The temperature reached -35C (supposedly, -50C with the windchill). Thankfully, there was no wind in the trees. Our friends Félix and Charles volunteered to shuttle a vehicle to...

Wow. I didnt expect so much snow. Hardly any in Montreal.
You might be right. This was actually last January. I'm a bit slow to edit. Cheers!
Love the stills, but are you actually allowed to set food on fire, and why is the snow so high on the windows? HaHa!
Haha! Living dangerously with our desserts! And, that snow really does accumulate!
Also love that it is you on those skis, and not me! I am Living vicariously!
Moves and video are awesome, and I love the music balanced over your words and sounds!
Thanks, Terri!!
Such a beautiful area to tele ski. Very nice!
Absolutely! I love the views there. Cheers, David!
I come back to this video every few months - it is my favorite video of OTW. Usually not moguled up like that any more, unfortunately.
Wow, thanks! So nice to hear. I'm also really hoping it'll return to glory this season. It's been a while. Fingers crossed!
Rob love this videos! Headed to Le massif for a week in mid February. Any chance you have a contact for a guide there? Thanks!
Hey, thanks jediknight737! I'm really glad to hear you like the videos. I really only know René-Martin Trudel. He's a close friend of mine based out of the area and does do some private instruction at Le Massif. He might be guiding in the Chic-Chocs at that time, but you should reach out to him. You can find his details at absolutetelemark.com. At a minimum, he could point you in the right direction & connect you with the right person. Have a great trip! The backcountry sectors are awesome. One of the best resorts I've skied in the east.
I skied ''La Charlevoix'' the day after a world championship (I was around 15), the blue race lines were still there and the run was still hard packed and smooth top to bottom. We were hauling ass, jumping the pitches and all, following the race lines. The ski patrol guy came to us at the bottom and said he understood we had the skills to do that, but if he saw us going that fast again, he would pull our passes. Good times xD.
Rob what pack were you using?
Hi Rob. I was using the Patagonia Descensionist 40L pack. A prior model. Cheers!
Way to go Rob. Woot
Thanks, René!
I definitely prefer this view.❤
Thanks, Charles! 👍 Agreed!
Looks wicked!
Thanks, Oliver! Wicked fun adventure! Cheers!
Ah man! Reminds me of my buddy telemark trips we used to do there about 20 years ago. Great times. Thanks for sharing
That's great! I'm really glad to hear it brought back some nice memories. Cheers!
Hey @e_v_a_l_ca! Quick follow-up. I re-edited this after realizing there was an unintentional crop. New wider view version is here: th-cam.com/video/xMLcglR_TVY/w-d-xo.html

Thanks, David! It was huge fun!
Chic Chocs snow is really special. Would you agree?
Absolutely! Such a joy!

Always thought Janitors Only was an odd name for a run.
I just read about this on A-Basin's website. It's a reference to the 'Atomic Janitors'. They were apparently some diehard skiers in the '80s who skied all day, slept in the A-frame at the base & cleaned it up every night. Cool name!
Sweet----I skied it OB in 84'
Nice precise and controlled turns-----A Basin 80'-84'....that run was OB in my day
How does this compare to out west blacks?
I'd say it qualifies as a double black & compares. But, you can find much steeper double blacks out west, depending on the resort. A-Basin, for example, gets much steeper. I will say this run is a lot more fun & challenging when it's bumped up. Sadly, it hasn't been as good as in this video for the past couple of seasons. Have you skied it?
Nice work keeping your tele turns through the choke. Looked tight.
Thanks, Mark!
my thighs are burning just watching this lol
Haha! That reminds me... I better get back in shape before the snow flies.
@@robcrowe Headed to Canaan/Timberline on an Indy pass tour late January. Maybe I'll see you there.
@matthewseel5961 Hey Matthew! I'll likely be there over the last weekend of January, skiing with my wife. Keep an eye out for me. Dark Blue jacket, orange boots, & tele skis. I'd love to do some runs together!
@@robcrowe sweet man I'll be there that weekend as well. Light blue jacket, orange soloman skis.
Videos are great please keep them coming. After 30 years of alpine I switched to tele last year and love it. Way harder to learn than I thought but so much fun. Have a trip planned with buddies to Breck in March, counting down the days!
Thanks! Really glad to hear you like the videos. And, of course, that you switched to tele! Enjoy Breck! Fun place, for sure. Tear it up! I'll be back in Colorado this season and another backcountry trip in the Chic-Chocs, Quebec. More videos, for sure. Cheers!
That trip was epic. Thanks Rob
Yeah, René! Such a great time. Huge thanks, as always, to you!
Super duper. Thanks for the great memories
For sure, René! Such a fun time & a joy to re-live while making these videos.
3:38 sequence is sweet!
Thanks, Charles! We have a great photographer! Much appreciated skills, buddy!
Seriously? Minus 34 C degrees?!!! This Florida gal is going to have to live vicariously through your videos! Terri
Haha! I can respect that. It was chilly, but so fun!
Thanks buddy. Good memories
6:33 …So good!
The terrain steepness comes out nicely.
Yeah, on that front, nice shot of you coming off the top of 'La Charlevoix'! Though my favorite is the pole glove trick. Haha!
Don't remember it having that many moguls, lol. Used to run this all the time in my younger days, but that looks like too much murder on the knees now. Nice run!
looks like fun to me
That’s a lot of mogles
Nice video, on par steepness with Shay's Revenge at Snowshoe. I love Timberline Mountain! Shred
Thanks! I've got to hit Snowshoe one of these days. Looks like a great hill. Cheers!
Very technical run with high consequences for missing a turn. You skied it great.
What makes this kind of run so fun for me is the challenge of the route finding and strategy necessary to find the ideal line. Every run is better than the best Disney ride.
Totally agree. Cheers, Stuart!
Nice Turns!! Mind if we hike out with you?
Haha! Thanks, Brett! I had a great time hiking out with you and Toby today! What a great day, and such sweet snow on the runout. Cheers! 🍻
Damn! So nice! Bucket list for me for sure.
Thanks, Ryan! I highly recommend it.
@@robcrowe Thank you for posting it! I sprained my right knee's LCL and probably ended my season a month early, so I can only live vicariously now!
Oh, man! Sorry to hear that. Planning a trip for next season is also a great tactic. Cheers, and get better, Ryan!
If I could suggest something, try your phone or whatever you used to fill, try putting it on your head for one video so you don't have your arms going in and out of the shot, you do get a better view of the slope that is right in front of you when it is on your chest though,so it's just a thought 👍😁
I am pretty sure it is on your chest, but anyways grate video
Yeah, thanks. I agree about the angle. The arms do get in the way at times. I use the head mount sometimes and I'll have to incorporate more footage from that angle. Cheers!
Go Tele Go!
Very cool to see theses image’s
For sure! Thanks so much, René!
Are these open now? Wasn't sure if they had enough snow yet...
No. Not yet. It usually takes until mid to late season for them to get enough snow & mitigate the avalanche risks for this area. I just pulled this this together from some early April 2019 footage. I can't wait! Cheers!
@@robcrowe I was gonna say, I haven’t checked the map recently to see what’s open but I was almost certain that these are closed. Thanks for the great video!
Looked like a great day to hit it!
Hey Tony! Thanks again for the comment. I just posted a newer & better 1st Notch East Wall video... th-cam.com/video/goN-DnoWjfQ/w-d-xo.html
If a goat could ski, it would prefer A-basin!
Sick I really like that one
Like it. Good job guys. YEW!
René-Martin Trudel of absolutetelemark.com just posted a couple of great videos from this trip on his own channel: 1) Revelstoke with Absolute Telemark - 2019 th-cam.com/video/G4u-PBwgAJs/w-d-xo.html 2) Tribute to CAM th-cam.com/video/Lrvw3AQF3L0/w-d-xo.html
Maintaining more ski to snow contact will give you a smoother ride but maybe you wanted to catch air idk
Yah, not a great deal of finesse. I just do that for fun. I love Whitetail, but you've got to do what you can there to keep things fun and exciting. Here's a better and more up-to-date bump video last season at Beaver Creek: th-cam.com/video/4ojEt0Umy-M/w-d-xo.html I'm working on posting some more footage from trips this season to Revelstoke and Colorado. Also, heading to to Hakuba in Japan. Thanks for watching. Hang in there for some better footage than the bump jumping at Whitetail. Most everything will be telemark skiing from here on out. Cheers!
nice video bro 👍
Again it looks beautiful out there! Nice skiing and great editing! I enjoy the soundtrack too :)
