    Hello! Yet again you summoned me with your complex topics and interesting insights. Thank you for the video! I now will tell my unwanted outdated postsoviet views on this issue. 1) First - on the topic of 'gayness'. I think that the western labels of gays or lesbians is somewhat misleading and had mostly historic value. Nowadays new researches come to deconstruct those labels. For example, I saw a research recently which concluded that women are mostly bisexual from birth. I can consider that this is the case for basically everyone - but it matters whom we have attraction to. Female-attracted or male-attracted is better to describe orientation, in my opinion. Anyways, the traditional preferention of straight partners in most people is regulated, apparently, by mix of three components - biochemistry, genetics, and upbringing. However! However. For men, the issue of hierarchy comes into play. The distinct label of 'gay' (and the para-logical extension of it to lesbians) is needed mostly because of 'male bottoms' which are despised in most traditional cultures (ours included). Mostly because they instead of challenging the hierarchy or having aspirations of rising in it (which is expected) they willfully submit to it. Especially in close knit settings as the fleet or the jail. The Central Asian and Indian issue with baçabaz or hijra is also of this nature, and not of the western 'trans' or 'gay by orientation' labels. Many of them even did not choose their orientation, and simply were forced into it as the weakest and especially 'femalest' ones of the group. 2) I fully agree with you on the "whom he wants to be" point. If a person turned into a girl against his will, he will (probably) in real life conceal this feminine appearance and try to revert to his boy appearance. It's just in anime they don't do that because they don't want to lose on a comedic effect. Therefore, he would not be confused with a girl, because is much easier for a girl body to pass as a boy's body, except of course close settings, than vice versa (in my opinion, probably it is also wrong). 3) To avoid confusion, I prefer the position "If it calls itself a girl, talks like a girl, dresses like a girl and is willing to take feminine role in relationships - it's a girl". Mostly because I do not like modern sex-infused culture anyways, so I'm not interested in intimacy and whatever is there down there. For me the intimacy is essentially for making kids (for me personally! I do not intend to force such a view unto others, I understand that they want their 'fun'). 4) There can be benefits to preserve all bits and pieces to a person's body instead of chopping them down especially for those men who identify as a girls-lesbians. Why? Because then they can make a family, essentially, a yuri-family with a 'real' girl (or other way around) and still can have kids in a somewhat natural way. Is it somehow "straight" if the other person acknowledges this, hmm, 'up'side to the relationship? This also enhances your point about that this is his inner volition to appear as a girl which matters. 5) However, to classify the relationship, we need to take in account how the other party views it. So far we only analyzed the 'unnatural' part of the equation. The 'natural' part can know the reality or not know it, she can accept the reality or not accept it, she can like the person, ultimately, but be confused with morals and dogma. All of this adds complexity to such a situation. It is easy to imagine the situation when the turned-girl-against-his-will boy would somehow avoid trying to revert and will try to adapt to female society, and then another girl likes 'her' as a girl. For her, it would be yuri. For our unfortunate hero it would be straight. However, do the labels matter if they like each other? If they really like each other, it is love, and they would make past distinctions or biological limitations. If they do not like each other in that way, and the random fact can split them apart - this is only a friendship. At least such is my opinion. As always, thank you and sorry in advance if some topics are inflammatory.

    • @lilahliliumlily9883
      @lilahliliumlily9883 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Always appreciate your detailed perspective, gives me pause for thought myself in reading and happy that my words able to make someone think so much on random nonsense in my mind. As for your comment, gay and lesbian would probably fit more better and inclusively with just like feminine and masculine attraction, we already have like games that are steering away from using boy/girl to describe gender options but rather just Body Type A and Body Type B. I can agree with you there that if they say they are a girl then they are, I ain't arguing or checking their private parts to learn more, even if they can have a kid from that "gay" relationship I ain't seeing that as something so weird it gets their gay card revoked. As for the last point about classify the relationship, I thing you bring up a good point that I didn't consider given how the was viewing the problem. As in, I view the relationship from an outsiders perspective, giving the label of gay or not based on my values, but I didn't put as much considerations in the two involved, as in, where the genderbend person or their partner, think the relationship is gay. I think, even if the unfortunate hero thinks it's straight, the partner a girl who sees them as a girl and thinks it gay, probably gets more leyway in deciding especially if they know the genderbending has happened. The decisions in the end, and who gets the final say, is probably between the two parties involved, not weirdo outsider viewers like me, but I still find the thought fun brain food.

  • @FilmFlam-8008
    @FilmFlam-8008 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

    It’s simple: For the person doing the gender bending, yes. For the other person, no. Until the naughty bits come out, in anime, you can’t tell, so it is based on your personal attraction. But the gender bending person knows the entire time.

  • @lilahliliumlily9883
    @lilahliliumlily9883 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Now you can answer all the is it gay questions related to genderbending, maybe... still won't help you with answering is it gay to like femboys.

    • @FilmFlam-8008
      @FilmFlam-8008 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Not really that hard. If you are physically attracted to the appearance when the dangly bits aren’t known or showing, that is normal as that is the intent of the “costume”. If you are physically attracted to the dangly bits when shown, yes.

    • @lilahliliumlily9883
      @lilahliliumlily9883 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The dangly bits do add a factor to consider, but I find the question at its most interesting when it's not considered, but that's a valid answer in my view. I hold the view if you like it for the femininity part of the femboy, then it's not, but if you like the boy parrt of femboy, obviously gay, but that's just the simple way to look at it. I ain't stepping into the territory of femboy-ology.

    • @FilmFlam-8008
      @FilmFlam-8008 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@lilahliliumlily9883 I agree in the regard to being attracted to the feminine appearance is not gay. But purposely seeking out “femboys” is in fact a gay act. The person at that point is attracted to men, just a VERY feminine version of it. And that’s fine. Some people are attracted to burly “bear men”. Some like “straight looking” guys. Some are attracted to “twinks”. Further down the line is femboys, then after that new-half/trans, and even further is hermaphrodites. And note I am saying “gay action”, because that is a more accurate way of describing it. A person who identifies as straight can still do gay actions. It doesn’t mean they are fully gay. The same way a gay man can say a woman is good looking.

    Okay, I’ll throw in my two cents as someone who appreciates romances between two girls but isn’t really a part of the fandom. I don’t know how the terms work in the west, but in Japan: - Yuri has explicit material and depictions of sex - Shoujo Ai does not, it is the romance without sex Shoujo doesn’t mean “very young girl”. It doesn’t mean woman either. Woman would be “Onna no Hito” and little girl (child) would be “Onna no Ko”. The term Shoujo is more for adolescence and pre-adolescence. Because the characters will usually be teenagers falling in love together. Keyword being ‘usually’, yes, I am aware of age gap stories. But the reason why it’s usually teenagers (outside of target demographic) is Japan’s love for the high school setting, the last moment of ‘freedom’ they have before going to their incredibly harduous work culture. That’s why SOOOO many manga and anime has the characters at high school age (and consequently are in high school), because it is BEFORE they have to go to the work environment. But regardless, it feels very odd to me that Shoujo Ai is a rejected term. Because it just means “girls love”. It doesn’t strict the age to VERY young girls or anything, and the distinction between it and Yuri exists because some people don’t want to read something 18+. And making the distinction is useful. I can’t speak for the websites that use both tags in a single entry, that in itself doesn’t make much sense, given their difference is explicit material. As for the connotations of purity, I feel that’s very superfluous. It’s a relic of a time and society (any society really) that equates virginity with purity. But it really doesn’t affect anything of the story itself, so I don’t see why the Tag’s supposed connotations even matter. I don’t see the reasoning behind the rejection, and the bear joke may have been a bit much. The stories don’t depict pedophilia, they depict a romance between two girls who are typically in Highschool. And if the idea is that adults shouldn’t be watching a romance between two teenagers, well, guess that that means no one over the age of 18 is allowed to watch/read 80% of romance anime/manga, like “Your Lie in April”, “Toradora”, or “Kimi no Todoke”. This is a fine video, but I feel it’s misguided. Again, I’m not within the fandom, I don’t know what went down for over the years the tag being rejected. But “outsider looking in” perspectives can be just as important. And to me, this all felt very odd. Best of luck for the future and I hope your videos get better and better.

    We're talking about a character, not a person. The author can show the character being dysphoric and have them wish they were a woman, but walk back and make them say that they're a man. This happens a lot in media because far too many cis authors either don't know or understand trans folks or hate them, but still want to profit from our struggles, using us for jokes, for shock value, or for pity.

    • @safetyboots
      @safetyboots หลายเดือนก่อน

      And no, a character doesn't need to say that they're trans for the interpretation that they're trans be valid. You just assume they're cis because that's the norm, not because it makes sense in context. You would rather take things at face value than interpret them.

    • @safetyboots
      @safetyboots หลายเดือนก่อน

      The reality is that there's isn't a clear cut difference between otoko no ko and trans women. Many porn actresses use the label as marketing, and many folks who used to identify as otoko no ko end up transitioning later in life. Like, I used to identify as a femboy and now I'm nonbinary. It happens all the time all around the world.

I cringe reading a manga or novel about girls going at it even though I like making out with my ex-gf (I'm a girl though) Oh and one more thing when it comes to bl it's easy to have a Dom and Sub than in gl. It's quite awkward or seemed forced when they do the Dom/Sub in gl even though a lot of gl do it easily in manga it's still lacking compared to bl that once you first saw a picture of a bl you get hooked and wanting for more

      I don't think people understand how much I don't like homosexuality behaviors because everytime I always watched some kind of this genre, it just goes fully intimate mode than anything else... Like, few chapters was good and now the others are practically lemon, which I hated that much, because what's the reason of conserving homosexuality if the program itself is just sexualizing every people? Some are actually good, but most of it are bad as hell that I don't wanna go back in reading it again. It truly traumatized me, especially the yaoi. 💀 We have a very defined attractions and likings to one another regardless the merits of gender or biological sex (male and female), but the reason why I kinda hated such thing is because it disrupts mostly every concept and pointed that the romance of the two are just too severe without a drawbacks, or just plain out having intimacy in every corner of the building while everyone doesn't bats an eye. That's why I do also puke at this kind of genre, some/few are good, but most, especially fanfictions are just straight out crazy. I don't blame the genre tho, but it just traumatized me about the yaoi I have just read and cleansed my eyes with water.

      @@sakabambaspissSome homophobia aren't actually real tho. Like some dislikes Homosexuality due to what they did, even tho half of us respects them... The value of respecting LGBTQ often gets controversial because people assumed we hated LGBTQ or dislike it, even tho we didn't even punch or kill a gay person, because it's against the law itself. But the homophobia was considered because some just don't like to get roasted or dumped by the majority, and blaming those who respectfully show their dislikes on them. This behaviors are one thing I hated the most, because it just points out how entitled some of everyone in LGBTQ when it comes to privilege and basically some just can't respect others and forces everyone to respect their identity even tho their pronouns doesn't truly define them as a person. I respect LGBTQ because I have my friends and teachers who is a part of it, and they are also caring and considerate even it comes for us calling them "Sir", they won't go correcting everyone and said their pronouns are They/Them, because calling someone a "sir/ma'am" is a respect, not just a demand. That's few of the problem, but the latter goes on that I kinda dislike LGBTQ as well, even tho I respected it... Sort of a love/hate trope, not entirely but suggestively...

    Did you make this video in response to my comment? For those not privy, I was wondering why in Japan you'll see 2 or 3 aisles in every bookstore dedicated to BL, and very clearly labelled. Meanwhile you have to know the specific publisher/author/title/whatever to find GL, because it tends to just be hidden among the normal stuff. That's kind of anecdotal, but definitely another example that helps Lily's case.

      Native English speaker here. I think it sounds just fine the way it is. "What is..." makes it sound like a topic, which it is. "What are..." sounds weird in this case. Like you're asking what these beings are. Are they humans? Are they aliens? Are they transformers?

      @@warman1944 The subject and verb agreement aren't here at all. It sounds very weird. As the topic is on a group. Is it due to archaic structuring or "is" being more popular? The way the video presents itself, it is basically your "Are they humans, aliens, or transformers". The video is asking a question very much like in. Either change the plural of men, or the verb as it drags too slowly. Who would sound better, as the order sounds strange due to s'+men or lacking a definite or indefinite article. "What is a man in Yuri?" could've been good. To show the dichotomy then "What is a man to Yuri? ". It just sounds very weird in the title. Native English speaker here as well.

      Thanks for trying to defend me warman1944, but the fault lies with me. I do thing my wording is a bit weird MaoRatto, no way around it, I was trying to maintain the "What is" title theme I've been going for, but honestly it's a bit restrictive with my wording. The Idea I was trying this time was like, discussing the men inside of yuri stories, and most titles just felt weird to me given my restrictions. My English isn't great in general, with "Men of Yuri" just being the idea it's the, well, men of yuri, just sounded right to me at the time. Guess the main issue is the combination of "What is" and "Men of Yuri" which I can understand sounds weird. would require changing one or the other. I'll probably commit this sin again in the future, since I still want to try to maintain the "What is" part, but I'll keep in mine the second part that follows to flow better.

      @@lilahliliumlily9883 I view it this way, if someone is bad at English. I always expect it to be another language, depending on the mistakes, I can guess what it is as most of my friends are second hand speakers. As there's a hard line between native mistakes vs. foreign, from my experience.... The many times I must remind one Italian that my language is SVO mostly, with VSO being used for questions, but his often does OVS/OSV due to latin restrictions. xD The reason why I would say for your video " Who are the men of Yuri" it flows better and makes it clearer what the subject is as the thing you are talking about is at least are humans. The reason for the definite article, to avoid two sounds clashing.... Mainly z' in is and M in Men, also clarifies if describing or not... I am assuming your language doesn't conjugate as much for verbs when pluralized, nor uses articles, if I am not mistaken? I am new to seeing your channel. To be fair my language is Germanic, so nouns aren't regular on their plurality, which is common if speak Dutch, English, Swedish, German, Norwegian, or Danish. It's for hearing reasons and historical why the word for man switches to men... I heard your aspiration in the video, so it sounds like you got the most important vocieless sound right. xD

      @@lilahliliumlily9883 It takes mistakes to get good at another language. In Italian, or most romance tongues. I forget to use a + the infinitive or de + the infinitive to describe. Including OSV is an option in the word order... When I must remember irregular verbs like servir, decir ( I loathe this one ), and anything that is the participle. What and Which are contextually used different in Romance vs. Germanic. So I sometimes must say " Cuáles vs Qué.

I don't mind men existing in the background, maybe even interacting with the protags a bit, but I generally want it to be as man-free as possible. I don't even like them as a "self insert" character; I'd prefer to just see my self as a girl. Anyway, nice video. I haven't seen your work before, but I'm subscribed now!

      @@warman1944 Had I to give my best reasoning, I'd just assume it's because Yaoi is significantly more popular Yuri is, so it's better to sell toward that audience. To put in perspective, on myanimelist, there's 179 tagged BL anime, while there's 109 tagged GL anime. On Novelupdates, there's 594 Yuri Novels, while there's 3059 Yaoi Novels. The top fanart ship in Genshin is Childe and Zhongli, rather of the top 10, 9 of them are Yaoi pairs and 1 of them is a straight ship of Xiao and Lumine. Us yuri fans are just a minority when it comes down to it, so I'd imagine making it easier to sell to us isn't a priority.
