    What is this lubricant? Can we use any silicon oil?

    Some of the tan SS or other tends to have a powder iirc. Getting back into this and cannot remember if I rinsed the talc off before lubing. Opinions?

      You don’t need to wash them … can if you want but I just lube and go fly.

    Nice. I do RC flying and trying free-flight rubber. Flying a free flight is actually much harder. Set up is so very important.

    • @hummingbirdmodelproducts2691
      @hummingbirdmodelproducts2691 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Free flight is definitely more challenging than RC … it takes time and patience to get good at it and yes setup is everything. My kits are designed to fly well … unfortunately many of the older kits and plans were not designed with particular attention to flight performance. Stick with it free flight is a lifelong hobby that will get you outside, keep you in your feet and provides hours of therapeutic creativity and problem solving for your brain. All super healthy. I see it as self care.

  • @1toastandjam1

    My question to you is if you scratch build a plane how do you determine size of rubber and length of motor as well as number of turns before you reach maximum winding for that motor thank you I learned one more thing in my journey to building and flying Fr models.

    • @hummingbirdmodelproducts2691
      @hummingbirdmodelproducts2691 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stan, the answer to your question: I determine motor length and cross section based on the size and weight of the model. Cross section (number of strands) gives the power length gives the turns. Based on experience I can make a good guess as to the length and cross-section … then after some basic trimming flights I can determine if I need more or fewer strands. .. for length I go as long as I can to get the max turns possible … the limitation is usually the size of you nose block hole … a really long motor will coil up and become rather fat at max turns and can be difficult to get into the model … in these cases one is forced to go with a shorter motor. I’d be happy to help you figure your motor out … send me an email

    Right left is good trim for a freewheeler.

    • @hummingbirdmodelproducts2691
      @hummingbirdmodelproducts2691 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I know. I tried that with this model but she really resisted the left glide trim. In the end it seemed much happier going right right ... but the right glide is a bit inconsistent. Still a work in progress.

    If you wind backwards when braiding then you don’t spend the first 50 or so turns unwinding the motor when it’s in the model. It will also stop lengthening at the end of the run.Also if you have a third hand it is much easier😀😀

      cant remember ... I select rubber for a model based on weight and cross section. The length is usually maximized to the point where it is still practical for fitting inside the fuselage etc.
