His slideshow illustrates how he has used the Leiapix 2D to 3D conversion app to convert some of his regular photographs into stereoscopic images. He believes that these images illustrate some of the situations where a 2D to 3D image conversion yields better results than taking two images in sequence that are slightly offset ( using the “cha cha” step to the side method) and then combining thos...

I see you mentioned image 3-D. I used their services in concert with my Fuji FinePix WD3D cam. I’m fairly good at image editing so, I sent in sets from a variety of trips. Unfortunately, what i got back was pretty crude. Grainy, reduced resolution, printed onto a reel that is only usable with their substandard non-lit viewer. Considering how much it cost, I was disappointed. The original image quality was excellent, easy to confirm with my superior camera’s rear LCD. I do have the personal stereo cam, and all of the accoutrements, but this is more for display historical value. I’m a fairly good judge of what it takes for a 3D still to “pop”, but I’m afraid the FinePix has completely spoiled me with its instant gratification! Ultimately, I’ve concluded i’ll download the images into a wall frame that displays in 3-D without user glasses. Something that rotates a thousand images. The technology is almost here!

I’d love to hear your opinion on an assumption that I’ve made. Virtually all of the reels that I’ve collected spanning the Ektachrome years have untainted sets that i was fortunate enough to secure. This includes middle years, not just end caps. What’s unclear to me is whether these reels were simply never put through a hot projector or left in an attic, or they are indeed Kodachrome. This is important with respect to how I view these sets. They are currently marked as “No Projector Use” or “Red Danger” in case a family member is interested in my absence. I have one odd set with a reel containing two magenta film chips, and all others in brilliant color. Important to note, both perspectives of these chips match. So, two matched pairs of magenta and five of color. Because of this reel, I’ve assumed they did use Kodachrome now and again. Meaning, I am safe to use these in a projector. Unfortunately, there are five sets that I was never able to find untainted, but it is what it is! Thank you for putting up this interesting video, it’s nice to see a meticulous individual (other than myself) preserving this history .

Facebook has a 3-D conversion also but it just moves back-and-forth in tune with the 3-D. You have to turn the phone one way take a screenshot turn the phone the other way take a screenshot and then intentionally placed the two images together in the parallel format. It doesn’t do badly.

I am only about 2 minutes in so far. I found the first image more difficult to comfortably parallel view than most shots I have seen online but I did manage it. Is that due to the combination of the aspect ratio and their close placement? I am curious.

Well, I'm late to the party but glad you uploaded this. It was fun to watch. My collection is small compared to many but I have my faves. I am a late baby boomer so some of the reels you say are Gen X are familiar to me. I inherited my uncle's Model C when I was about 12 years old. My favorite scene which ignited my View Master passion is from a demo reel. It's a diorama shot of a rocket on the launch pad at night. The mini spotlights, the smoke and the rocket are just mesmerizing to this day. I love the dioramas, fairy tale reels and many travel reels. My favorite viewers are Model D and E.

In the early 60's we only had 4 reels and i would look at the Taj Mahal over and over .... the world of stereo is incredible...This is a good time to buy as i have not seem things cheaper relative to the value of the dollar . Best View-master are the 10X with achromatic lenses and focus for both eyepieces.. the typical cheap3X VM is to the model D 7.5X as the model D is to the 10X indeed the gap may be larger the 3X may show a nest of birds, the 7.5X shows inside ithe nest but the 10X shows the individual chicks feathers and spots around their eyes. Sadly i would give away the cheap viewers to poor kids with 20 reels and they had no attention span they would rip through each reel in 10 second and that was that. so i stopped. I also got two movie reels in lots that I bought. red heads from Seattle and an RKO picture the French Line
