How I Plan to Sell More Art Online in 2025 | Art Business Q&A Part 1
In this video I answer some questions you guys asked me on Instagram and TH-cam! These questions are all about running your small art business and working towards become a full time artist. I talk about strategies for selling more online, making fine art prints, taxes and more. I break down my pricing strategy for original paintings and prints so you can understand how I calculate each price. I share how I keep my business finances separate and organized, especially when it comes to taxes. Selling art online isn’t always consistent, but I’m focusing on social media, TH-cam, and storytelling this year to connect with potential buyers. This is part 1 of a 2 part series. Once part 2 is uploaded I will link it below!

something also happened on instagram in the last year where no one outside of my followers sees anything i post
Yeah I really don’t understand what is up with instagram. It’s really annoying.
Thank you Amanda, very helpful video. I can’t wait for part2😊🎉
Aww thank you so much! I am happy you found it helpful! I will get part 2 up soon! 💜
Keep making this type of content <3 I watch this while I'm doing my painting too it feels like I've been accompanied by a friend. thanks!
Aww thank you so much for your comment!🥰 That is exactly what I want to do with these videos! I am happy you liked it!
What a cute setup! I love watching peoples' market set-ups for some future inspiration for when I decide to do it myself later this year. Do you sell at other markets too or has this been one your favorites so far?
Aww thank you so much! Yes I sell as one other market that happens once a month and sometimes some others. For those my spot is usually like 8x6 so I set things up a bit differently. This one that I am setting up for in the video is definitely my favorite. It does not cost that much and getting my stuff from my car to my spot is a lot easier than the other markets!
Do you recommend this over outsourcing, especially for conventions and stuff?
Yes! I personally prefer making it myself instead of outsourcing so then I don’t have to buy a lot of stock.
Love Your Work.
Aww thank you so much!
What is the largest size you can print and the thickest paper you can use with the Pixma 200?? Thanks
Largest size is 13x19. Thickest I ahve printed is 320 gsm. I think it can print thicker but haven't tried yet!
🎉🎉🎉 36k is great! Don’t let yourself feel bad about posting those numbers. Think about all the people who 1. lie about the numbers and 2. all the people who stay at jobs they hate because they’re scared to take the financial cut. You did it and you posted the truth about it. That’s the kind of online content we need, people like you who are honest and brave.
Aww thank you! I think I just felt nervous about sharing it because this is the first time I have ever made a video like this. That is so true I haven’t thought about that people might lie about the numbers. Thank you so much for your encouragement! This comment seriously made my day!❤️
You are truly doing amazing!! Some of the best business took lots of time and effort to grow into what they are now. Nowadays most people are very used to instant gratification and forget things like that. Props to you for taking the first steps towards doing something that brings you joy! Not many can say they had enough courage to do so. Sending you lots of love <33
Thank you so much for all your encouragement! Your comment made my day! Yes I completely agree people are so use to the instant gratification. Running my art business has been so tough and I knew it was going to be hard but not this hard! But I am just going to keep on going and doing my best!💜
Loved the video!:) How did you find the art markets? Did got through an application process, where you had to show your art? Were you nervous the first time you tried to sell at the markets?
Aww thank you so much! Great questions! For the art walk I had known about it before and had walked around it before I applied. So for that one I filled out the application then I had to be screened they just wanted to see some of my work and verify that I hand make everything. For other markets I find them online or on Instagram and they have online applications. Yes! I was super scared! Some of my friends came by so that helped but yeah it was scary. But now it’s a lot of fun and I have made lots of friends with the other vendors!
Honestly i love a numbers video!! I'm sure it can also feel kinda vulnerable to share what you're actually making but as someone who is planning on pursuing art full-time and starting my crochet business this year, I love the transparency!! Wishing you the best this year ❤
Dude me too! It’s so helpful! Yes it did feel really vulnerable for me. But I am honestly super happy with what I made in 2024. Aww wow that’s so amazing! I am so excited for you! I wish you the best too!💜
Such a great video! Thank you for your transparency you gave me some great ideas on how to do what I love for money though lol.❤
You’re so welcome! I am happy you found the video helpful! 💜
I don’t paint at all, usually I’m not even on this of TH-cam but I really like your art and calm demeanor :) keep it up!!!
Aww wow happy you found my video! Thank you so much! 💜
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Being a self employed artist with an income where I'm able to pay for rent and groceries is something I dream of, and I just want you to know that your work and income are so inspiring and absolutely something you should be proud of. Taking the time to make youtube videos on top of it all as well is really amazing, and your insight has been so valuable and helpful. I'm also curious, what does shopify have that squarespace wasn't able to provide? I've always sold my work on a site called bigcartel and right now I'm trying out etsy, which my partner has been having better luck with than I have, although I'm doing okay. I'd love to hear your thoughts on squarespace and shopify. (I'd love to display my portfolio as well as my online shop in the same place, if that's possible to do, so I've been eyeing either squarespace or shopify!)
Aww thank you so much for your comment! This year I am going to try to post one TH-cam video a week so we will see how that goes! To answer your question, Shopify has more e-commerce capabilities than Squarespace. At least when I was using Squarespace it costs like $500 /year to be able to have payment transactions through the site. But for Shopify I pay like $300 /year for that as well as order creation (I can make orders for people, I use this for commissions) and access to all of Shopify’s apps that add different things to your site. I haven’t heard of bigcartel I will have to check that out.
what is that light you hung up?
It is just a fluorescent light that can be plugged in. I got it at ace hardware.
@@amandabethstudio is that for lighting while painting?
Yes! I like it to be very well lit while I paint!
Thanks for sharing! That's cool you have a regular art market to go to, and it sounds like that's where the most success finance wise was. Makes sense since I think people are more likey to buy art in person. Also I think sales in general this year have been down, economy has not bee great :/
Aww you are so welcome! I am happy you found this video helpful! It is so helpful having a regular market to sell at. Yes I agree people usually buy art more in person than online. I think it helps meeting the artist and getting to see the print or artwork in person. Yes the economy has not been the best this year. Most other sellers at markets I have gone to have said that too.
how much per print do you save by doing them yourself?
I have never had my prints produced by someone else. But I looked a little bit at what it costs to have them printed and it’s almost $1 for 1 4x4 print. I haven’t ever done the math to see exactly how much my prints cost me but my paper is around $1 per sheet and I can get 12 4x4 prints out of it. So that’s a lot better than $1 per 4x4 print. I think I might make a video about how much my prints cost me!
glad you're able to make a living at it. i too tried etsy and found it to be a black hole. not sure how anyone gets sales on there as a small artist.
Aww thank you so much for your comments! Yeah I completely agree! I have no clue how some people make it on Etsy.
@@amandabethstudio Chiming in to agree. I'm till trying to make Etsy work, but Etsy has become untenable with all the fees. You need to be selling high priced items to make it work your time.
Yeah I think Etsy just isn’t for me. I hope you get it to work for you!💜
Nice video :D The prints are so lovely! How do the mystery prints do? I'm thinking of doing something similar with art on merch I'm not super proud of anymore.
Aww thank you so much! They do pretty well! I have sold them at 8 markets so far. And I have sold 9. Some markets I don’t sell any while others I sell like 3. I think what helps them sell is that I have taken the prints out of all of my print bins so it is a complete mystery and then they won’t get duplicates if they buy any of my other prints. 💜
Every art piece you make is the best you have made , never market yourself or your art as not good enough !!! ppl wont interact with it , hope the best for you Amanda
Hi thanks so much for your encouragement. I will do my best!💜
Really enjoyed this video! I hope this isn't overwhelming but I had a couple questions. 1) has selling your art changed your style i.e does thinking about sales influence what and how you paint? and 2) what camera do you use, your video looks great!
Aww thank you so much for your questions! 1) I don’t think it influences what and how I paint. I definitely know what sells and somethings I will whip out those kinds of paintings. But there is also other times I make art that I am interested in and see what happens. 2) aww wow thank you! It is the Nikon Z7!💜
Which printer is this, please?
Canon Pixma pro 200
glad you pursued this early. i basically didn't do much art in my 20s and i regret it so much.
Aww thanks for your comment! Yeah I felt like why push this off. I am really happy I have pursued it now!
Have any of your paintings ever arrived to the recipient damaged?
Not yet so far. I have shipped 4 paintings using this method and haven’t had any damages!
Underrated af
Haha thank you!🥳
This is so amazing!
Thank you so much!❤️
Woah this is pretty! :D
Aww thank you!💜
