Oh no please find someone who will appreciate the coffee beans 🙏🏽 i hope you don't just throw it away.
I am always hoping for a good book subscription 😊 Ive had Fairyloot twice and cancelled twice - didnt like the book choice. Just cancelled Illumicrate (book only) for the same reason. I am subscribed to the Locked Library but cant remember the last time I didn't skip. I do have Evernight as the books are more likely to be my thing! I also have a subscription for GSFF, which although I feel like the book choice is now veering towards YA fantasy a bit too much, I am keeping as I love Goldsboro Books (and they do limit their run to 2000 only). My most recent subscription is for the Broken Binding Sci Fi sub. No surprise, Im hoping to get onto the Illumicrate sci-fi sub and the new Broken Binding SFF sub that is coming. Ive realised that I prefer subs where I know in advance what the book will be.
Just started the video and I have to say I’m beginning to think that getting off the fairy loot waitlist is a myth because I swear I’ve been on it forever (for the non-ya ones) and it’s honestly one of the only boxes (besides BOTM and Aardvark) that I actually want. I have thought about getting twisted retreat but I’m in the states so I don’t think the shipping is as bad, I will have to reconsider if they have raised their prices from the last time I looked.
An excellent reading. Thanks for sharing this poetry.
Thank you for listening
They get you with the FOMO & early access to new SE sales. I started tracking my book subs about 2 years ago to save money/shelf space. I actively skipped if the book wasn’t screaming at me (checked Autumns insta) & once skips ran out - I cancelled. Cancelled: Fairyloot YA & Adult, Afterlight, Page & Wick, Locked Library. And I’ve felt no need to buy resale for any of them since 🤷🏻♀️ FL Romantasy is borderline for me, I have 2 skips left. Evernight is my fav for redesigns & is only quartley so I’ve never skipped. Illumicrate has such a good skip policy that it’s a keep (I’ve only bought 2 boxes this year). I’m getting my first Butterfly Book Club this month 🦋
This! I forgot to circle back to the FOMO in the video but that is how most subscription boxes keep their subscribers - the fear of missing out. And I'm so guilty of it, its why I haven't cancelled them sooner but I'm reaching my limit with them
Thanks for the honest reviews - perhaps reading the books would make the subscriptions feel worth the cost?
It probably would make me feel a little better, and that's my goal for next year, to read what I already have
I don’t care about book subs but your passionate complaining was so much fun!
haha I had the most fun recording this and I'm such an animated complainer 🤣
This was really good. You made some great points. Ultimately it does seem very subjective, depending on what each person gets out of it.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, this was probably the video I had the most fun filming. It is really subjective
Great video! Loved this collection, even though it was perhaps not as dark as expected, in my opinion. Still, magnificent storytelling. I do think that Stephen King's writing has changed and matured as he he has grown older and that many of the fears presented in his later work, and in particular this one, deal with themes of old age, chance, mortality, the inevitability of death.
Agreed it's not as dark as his earlier work but I like how his writing has matured in a way and the fears are more things that can be encountered in everyday life which can make them even more horrifying. Danny Coughlin's Bad Dream was my favourite of the collection
@@darkstarsbookcavern That was a great story!
@@darkstarsbookcavern Absolutely! I did rank the collection and Danny Coughlin's Bad Dream is right up there.
I like your point about how collectable they are, that put things in a new perspective for me. Thank you, great video!
I've been burned a few times selling the books on that I haven't gotten along well with and when the book boxes get shipped out, a few days later ebay has loads of them for sale
Wow this looks so cool! I’ve never played Skyrim. Eventually though.
Skyrim is my comfort game, I love to load it up
I think The Abominable Book Club is a UK based horror book subscription. You can also purchase a smaller full guts box as a sample before jumping into the subscription too :)
After I've cancelled some of these I'll definitely have a better look into them
Congrats on 500!! I subscribed after that milestone, but I am here now. lol ;p I am terrible at replying to comments. lol I used to be so good at it, but I have fallen off terribly with it. Fair on not mentioning a certain film. lol
Thank you! haha that film is relegated to a dark shadowy place
Hello I am watching your video, very nice video, I like it very much. Can you reach more people with these videos? Because video views and subscriptions are the easiest ways to earn money from TH-cam.🎉🎉🎉🎉
Final commment..I could hear the Yorkshire 'HOW MUCH!' throughout 😂. I wonder how much not being on instagram has helped me avoid dipping in. Amazing video!!!
Instagram has a lot of my tbr to answer for! But yeah all throughout editing I could hear that in my head 😄
Do all businesses not care for their customers No!! Had me cackling, I may have to check out the Butterfly book box
haha I can be a bit sarcastic at times. The Butterfly Book Club is my favourite out of all of them and the one I will probably keep the longest
Pausing at 13 mins because I forget things. Worth mentioning that like many subscriptions, the business model often relies on subscribe and forget as once it's set up people kind of don't always notice it. Also, I like that some of the sites offer special editions separately, and also sometimes old boxes (actually telling you what's in them more importantly) I go back to watching now
This! And the payments come out a month in advance so even when you cancel your last box isn't the same month you cancel but the month afterwards. I think that the website shops are a great place to grab special editions at a good price - especially when you can choose what you are buying
@@darkstarsbookcavern yeah I have 1 book box which is 2 books a month, only indie or self published authors, so it means i can discover new books i would never see. I made the mistake of looking through the Illumicrate shop after your video, good job it was not payday at the time lol
I have been contemplating for a while now about getting some of these book boxes. The part that's been holding me back is is it really worth the money. After watching this I feel my initial reactions of "no it is not worth it" is in fact true. Thank you for this video
Which ones were you thinking about getting? For special edition the shop parts of the website are certainly something to keep in mind if you're looking for a special edition book, especially as that part doesn't really get promoted as much
@darkstarsbookcavern I was thinking about the coffee one, lumicrate and broken binding but I keep talking myself out of actually doing getting them. I may go the shop route instead of committing to the monthly/bi monthly route
@@Already-Overbooked I'm not sure what the Broken Binding one is like. But the shops are a good place and every few months they have leftover books from the subscription boxes on sale
I’ve actually been really curious about those book subs! So thank you for this!
I'm glad it helped. Which ones are you interested in?
coffee is life tho. and instant coffee is like lipton tea. its not real coffee
:O lipton tea is like the worst insult
I grew up on King, thanks to my mom. He was my comfort author when I was in dark times in university. I think my favorite solo book is Lisey's Story, for some reason. Also, congrats on the 500+!!
Thank you! Lisey's Story is one I haven't gotten around to reading yet but I've heard good things about it
I don't read the Skyrim books, but I have 5 volumes of Destiny books that are just like this. Kudos to you for reviewing game lore books!
I feel that with in game books the work that goes in to them often goes completely unnoticed, and so much work must go into them by the developers for hardly any recognition
Great review, but does it have The Lusty Argonian Maid books in it? It can hardly be called an essential purchase unless it does! I’m asking for a friend, because honestly, I prefer the Khajiit over the Lizards…
Haha that series is in the first volume - The Histories
My favorite in the series is Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Don't be hating on the Dunmer.
I haven't experienced the other Elder Scrolls games, Skyrim was my first
@darkstarsbookcavern Morrowind has its own fanatical fan base.
@dustinneely haha not sure I want to poke that bear
This makes me want to go back and actually finally finish the thing rather than wandering blindly round the world for hundreds of hours. Great video
Side point, Argonian lore is immense
I haven't finished it either, I'm always getting sidetracked
It’s not real it’s a story 😂
Great review, and great job at showing the similarities between Fallen and Monstrous without spoilers.
Thank you! I was trying so hard not to spoil either of them
Very cool review, though I don't know if I'm as interested in this as I am about trying out 'Fallen' and the subsequent books.
I would definitely try the Fallen series before this one
The song at the end of your video is amazing!! 😍
Loved getting to know you!! Thank you for commenting on my channel so I could find your channel. 💕 I would love to talk to you about Stephen King and some of his books(and the adaptations). I only started reading King this year and it’s been a journey.
It's a subject I love to talk about, once I start off it's hard to stop 😆
@ So, In Pet Semetary the daughter(Ellie) has something similar to the shining(or that’s what I guessed.) is she mentioned in any of his other books?? She was my favorite character and she didn’t really get an ending.
What kind of books do you read? “Paper ones.” I LOVED that!! So excited to follow your channel! 💕
As good as Helen Laser & better than Scott Brick.
Fantastic!
I absolutely love it! Your reading voice and the music complement each other perfectly.
Thank you so much! I always agonise when adding music as to whether it fits or not so I love this comment
I love cozy mystery books, I don’t really like romance. How bad is the spice? Thanks for the review!
It's not really spicy, there's one scene but I would describe it more as soft rather than spicy and definitely not dark
Love the hat ❤That was a beautifull unboxing 🎉🎉😊😊
Thank you for watching! They really do have some beautiful editions in this box
Congratulations 🎊 Youll be at 1K in a few months, watch ⌚ Impressive King collection 👑 I DNF books, sometimes, too.
Thank you for watching and fingers crossed :) I find I'm DNF-ing a lot more books more recently
Great getting to know you! I really want the perfect Dark Tower adaptation too. Mike Flanagan (Haunting of Hill House) was given the go ahead to start scripting a miniseries, and I’m so excited.
I'm equally excited and nervous to see what it's going to be like and how close it will be to the books
This sounds like a very cozy, fun read. Cuddle in a book is a very good way to put it.
I really couldn't think of a better way to describe it other than a cuddle :D
I have seen this doing the rounds along with the other books of the series, A cuddle in word form feels like the perfect book for the upcoming winter months. Love the review
Thank you for watching!
Congratulations on 500. Stay away from my Stephen King reviews (especially the Dark Tower). They will make you sad.
Thank you! I'll check them out, I like seeing other people's take on them - good or bad
@darkstarsbookcavern oh no. 😨
grats
Thank you 😄
congrats on 500 subscribers :D
Thank you!
I too collect king not quiet as obsessively, my favourite its are dark half and dream catcher.... Couldn't get into dark tower. Recently found I like A poem.... John cooper Clark - chicken town 😆 Also a gamer but I absolutely hate watching other people game 🤷♂️ ..... What happened to the big cheese 😮 did it get old and stinky 🧀 ? I also don't know why I felt the need to tell you all this but ho hum introverts unite ✊ lol Bring on the grim 🌛🌝🌜
Dreamcatcher is a favourite too, although I get why a lot of people don't like it so much! Yes introverts unite - at home 😄
@darkstarsbookcavern lol the most opposite thing to say ever 😂😂😂 I just thought it was awsome and alien would stick around to it's detrement (I guess) just to help someone who helped them..... Kinda cool and the ending reveals how cool duditz really is
21:05 - fantastic question!!
It really is! There are so many to choose from
Congratulations on hitting 500 well-deserved!!!
Thank you!
Never sampled tripe, Ill trust your opinion on both the food and book.
Not sampled the food myself either but just looking at it is enough 🤢
Great video! Seems like this subscription can be hit or miss with their books, and that’s frustrating when you pay for it on a recurring basis.
It really can at the moment, most subscriptions offer the option to skip a month if you don't like the sound of the book coming out but this one doesn't yet
"I'm trying not to be to harsh. It's trash!" 😂
haha I had to cut out all the time I was thinking of something nice to say
