The following is a brief description of each sightseeing attraction:
About: Situated in a remote region of Isarn, Pha Taem National Park is an off the beaten track travel and sightseeing experience. The national park borders the Mekong for approximately 35 km, north to south, and contains some unique geological features (mushroom rocks), picturesque waterfalls, ancient rock paintings and some very scenic hiking trails to viewpoints overlooking the majestic Mekong River, and Laos beyond. A number of dedicated hiking trails have been put in place to give sightseers the opportunity to experience the picturesque landscapes, and travel through some beautiful, untouched terrain.
Sightseeing in Pa Taem National Park: The low tourist numbers visiting tells the real story of Pa Taem National Park. There are no buses full of package tourists running riot over the various attractions, and the roads are relatively empty inside the park area. At most of the locations I visited, there were just a handful of sightseers. I planned my tour so I was at Pa Taem during the week days and in some sites I visited, I was the only sightseer there.
Sao Chaliang: This is a group of mushroom rocks on the road to the park HQ. It is very easy to access as the car park is just off the sealed road. For the energetic there’s also a series of nature trails which start from the car park. Note: There’s a large billboard (at the car park) with a map of the routes and the various points of interest along the way.
Painting Group (Rock Art): This is probably the highlight attraction of area one and although a three-kilometre round trip, is reasonably easy due to the track being a cement construction for most of the way. The trail starts nearby the national park HQ (there’s indicating signage to point you in the right direction) and drops down a cement stairway to the bottom of the cliff line. The pathway then follows the base of the cliff line to the three groupings of rock paintings along the trail. Solid viewing platforms have been put in place at each grouping to enable sightseers to get an eye level view of the artwork. From the base of the cliff line, the trail ascends directly to Pha Mon Viewpoint and from there it’s a 1.4 km hike back to the park HQ. Note: this final section of the trail is a jungle track and although there’s sufficient indicating signage along the way, it undulates with uneven ground and loose rocks. Wearing adequate footwear (hiking boots) is well advised.
Soi Sawan Waterfall: The main feature of this area is Soi Sawan Waterfall. This picturesque site is easy enough to access and only a six-hundred-meter hike from the parking area. Note: During the dry season (November to May) this waterfall is not much more than a trickle. If you want to see a good flow of water, visit during the rainy season (June to October).
Pa Chek & Pa Moei Viewpoints: The trail out to the viewpoints of Pa Check and Pa Moei starts from nearby the stairway down to Soi Sawan Waterfall and is well indicated with signage (distance and directional arrows). The trail is actually a four-wheel drive track and is over gradual incline to the viewpoints.
Saeng Chan Falls: There is a good sealed road (distance about 10 km) down to the waterfall sites. There is a turnoff to Saeng Chan to the right which takes you directly to the car park above the falls. From the car park a short stairway takes you to the pool at the bottom of the falls. Before heading down to the base of the falls, check out the viewpoint at the top (just a few meters off the main trail) where you can see the stream flowing through the hole in the back of the rock face.
Safe travels,
Mega.

Your videos are great. I saw some problems with your channel.
Hi can i use motorcycle to these waterfall.? Or must use boat to.cross the water ? Thanks
You can use a motorbike to go directly to the camping ground near the waterfall. However, it's 27 km of dirt road (muddy in rainy season) and there's now an entry fee of 2500 THB. This is the Google Maps link for the Park HQ and entry point to the waterfall: maps.app.goo.gl/VDfrVi6xABMDHAFw9
Ok thank you
is it safe for a woman solo traveller ?
Yes, it's a developed site with lots of guesthouses in the area and plenty of other travelers about. Nothing to worry about. If you do the loop trip try to do it with a group departing from Thakhek.
yeah, this lake is the most beautiful in VN, And just vietnamese know that. Loving Your video
how was you experience there sir?
It was an enjoyable adventure.
Great Vlog, nice editing and style. Good on you Mega

Sounds like a lot of puffing going up that hill!
You’ve got bigger balls than me. No chance I’d do that walk. 👍
I’m listening to the new David Attenborough! Or a combo with Brian Cox me thinks! So good. Very enjoyable & informative. Thank you
Thanks and much appreciated.
Enjoying your journey mate. I love this country and am noting places like this to visit for myself. Keep the vids coming. Cheers Craig

You are welcome. Please download the FREE interactive travel guide (in the description box) for more in-depth info about the loop tour.
Great video , maybe raise up the angle of your camera a touch
Hai mega, great to hear you are travelling again. Looking forward to your travel videos . 👍
Hi Albert, thanks mate. Heading off to northern Vietnam shortly. Will post a video on Ha Giang Loop in the coming weeks. Cheers.
😊😊😊
thank you for the video !! the thing i love about luang prabang is that is looks like thailand 200 years ago, undeveloped, nice and quiet ! and the people are so wonderful and very welcoming, vientiane on the other hand is horrible !
Yes, Vientiane is a really just a transit hub and good for a couple of days before heading to more interesting places in Laos.
thanks for sharing...
welcome to laos 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤🇱🇦🇱🇦
Thankyou. Much appreciated. Will be back in September.
man,rally great ~=))
Thinking of visiting Laos in October with my niece but a bit concerned that most places will be closed and struggle to get transportation due to fuel shortages.....is this not the case ?
Vientiane and Luang Prabang are okay right now as fuel shortages aren't such a problem in those two places. Vang Vieng is a bit hit and miss but by October it could be ok. In the south, Pakse was quite okay for fuel. I didn't have any problems refilling the motorbike while I was there. Overall, it's not as bad as the media portrays it to be. Some petrol stations are shut one day, while others are open. I rented motorbikes in Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang and Pakse and the only place I had difficulty getting fuel was Vang Vieng.
looks amazing and a sweet guy! we should have more of these rope systems in USA it would be great!!
Thank you for recording and posting! Beautiful!
Sick video!! Encouragement for my videos. Peace!
Oh!!!! Wowww so nice
Looks fantastic!
Well worth 3,000 in my view - wish my infirmities would allow me to do it... so I'm grateful to you for showing this... One point I don't understand: how did you get back to the boat...? Was it by a separate trek down (and around) the hill...?
Hi mate. The cave exit point came out further back down the track. We walked past the exit point on the way to the cave entrance. The river through the cave is part of the stream we followed on the trek from the boat. Cheers. Mega.
Very good view 🪂🧗😲😲
Very nice place in Laos
