384 – Good Questions – Did My Tradition Get it Right?
My deconstruction began when I started asking questions. The questions weren’t the regular softball questions we asked Sunday school teachers, which propped up what the teacher was already trying to assert. These questions caused the rest of the class to groan, mumble, and, most likely, talk about me behind my back.
I continue to ask the questions in this series. Many would believe that these questions make us bitter or that we’re just causing problems by asking them. I hope the questions help us evolve into a better state of being. Being outside of organized religion, I can finally hear the whispers and observe the drumbeat of the universe, along with the peace and comfort that I find. I find my comfort not in a finalized belief statement, but in a way of being that continues to question everything.

I have heard bits & pieces of your story but I’m glad I listened to this to hear your heart on this. I’m sorry you’ve had to undergo so much abuse over the years. I could relate to many of the teachings & legalistic philosophies you mentioned. I hope that you can one day embrace an intimate relationship with Jesus and pursue what HE has for you rather than theology, intellectual philosophy, or writings other than God himself says! God loves you with an everlasting love & wants a relationship with you now & forever!!! 🩷❤️

What a powerful video! I have been in the religious deconstruction process for over 20 years… and heavily in the last 10. Just the courage to start asking the questions, unraveling ourselves from the religious patriarchal systems is huge! Then… to completely step away, and to begin using your voice is terrifying. We are taught so much fear from such early ages. My entire life from age 2 was in a deep fundamental cult like system. Hearing her talk about the literal CPTSD, and the brain damage that occurs in the frontal cortex… was incredible. I’d love more resources on this information. Thank you for speaking strongly, loudly and widely on this topic!

And I need to respectfully defend Laura here. That passive/aggressive move Laura identified is a real thing, it is definitely a common MO among women. Men don't use that tack, which is why they say, "Are you sure? I don't think anything's wrong." And I think women do this because they aren't being "mean," so they can still feel good about themselves as a "sweet, Christian woman." But it's real. It's similar to my relative totally dropping the relationship with us after my daughter came out an we because LGBTQ advocates, but because she was not OUTWARDLY mean, she was able to say, "No one can say I haven't been loving!" What?? Women do this passive aggressiveness and inauthenticity all over these churches. We're trained to surrender our own hearts and be inauthentic. :(

Thx for the heart 😊 Yes, you guys touched bases on so many massively relevant concepts. Christian taboos. I came up w/an idea I call: SCD, or, what I refer to as; Sacred Cow Disease. The mindset of the average (Western) Christian is enslaved by them, unknowingly. So much of our theology is rooted in non-existent supposedly biblical verses, it embarrasses me to even ponder thinking them thru. So it seems we’re owned by sacred cows, in more ways then not.

In how many ways might John’s Revelation of JC actually be, in part, his (John’s) Olivet Discourse? (which is of course just 1 major doctrine absent from his gospel.)😉👍
