The Unimog has a lot of features going for it, not the least of which are portal axles to increase ground clearance. In this context, they help to reduce drag in the mud from the differentials and axle bodies. IOW it is made for this. The really stunning thing is the mind-boggling number of expensive Unimogs that are _not_ procured for things like this but for regular park and city maintenance et cetera where you don't even strictly need four-wheel drive.

I love how the engine sounds like it's gonna fall apart at any moment but you just know it has to sound like that😂 And as long as it does, there is nothing to worry about. The durability of these old Diesel engines is just something else.
