This wasn't a misunderstanding this was intentional. You should be able to take them, the employer, to court and get it back. Weather you actually can depends of course presumably if this was practical the lawyer would have advised you.

Dude, I am so glad that all of my money that goes to taxes goes to my W-2 Form biweekly, and that I could set that amount for a percentage, at least for my federal taxes. State taxes are their own thing...

_"It's a choice to let your employer handle your taxes."_ Where i live that's the fucking standard. In fact, you have to make a special application if you don't want that automatically deducted. When i was a kid and had a summer temp job i applied for no tax deduction (since i wouldn't make enough money in a year to be tax eligible) but even if i hadn't done that the tax services would know by the end of the year that i had overpayed and i would get a tax return. That's also handled automatically unless you need to apply for special exemptions and whatnot. I have to wonder what on earth "their" tax was. Like an employer's tax? But that should be payed with _their_ money! _My_ income pays for _my income tax._ Am i missing something? This just sounds like straight up theft.

10%? Girl individual Indonesian freelance taxes are 50% + income tax after the 50% cut. 🤦‍♂️ If you establish an individual LLC it’s 0.5% for the first 7 years and then its reduced income tax rates…

It sounds like the company did something wrong, but then, Indonesia doesn't have a 10% tax bracket. I'm wondering if the taxes she owed was just the leftover 5% the company didn't withhold? Anyone know how this stuff works in Indonesia? This is just me trying to make it make sense, not like, this is definitely what happened guys.

Moral of the story, dont trust anyone, always ask for tax receipts and go to your region's tax consultants the moment you start working. Get all the needed papers or letter of statements

Hey, you know what's wonderful about being a branch in a company. You're parent company is still responsible for your fuck ups! Meaning that the heads of Nijisanji are also now guilty of tax evasion in Indonesia! And for defrauding someone that was formally in thier employ of a substantial amount of money! So now not only are they a black company, but they are literal criminals.
