AWESOME dude !! VERY. VRRY helpful. direct learning /teaching approach. most helpful. best ever teaching pon TH-cam....SO grateful...i can finally have a FOUNDATION to Ja Im,prov i NEVRER had before...Thank. YOU. SO much !!!
Thank you so much! I'm happy you enjoyed it and got some value from it! Feel free to let me know if there are any other subjects you would like to see covered. Always happy to take requests!
@ I sure will buddy u r THEE best on TH-cam hands down !!!!! 😊
Hey, Cool video ! Why did you choose C melodic Minor over the F7 (or F13)?Just a creative choice? That measure has a Bb in the Melody.... .. Would be cool to check out some of the licks in this video...
@@NerdMusic3 thanks for the comment! Yeah, just a creative choice. I like the sound of the lydian dominant over a dominant II chord. I wouldn't play the sharp 11 when the melody is being played tho.
@@sethlojo Cool.... How about the A6 chord? In the real book it's Amaj7. Is that a creative choice also? I know sometimes people swap 6th chords for 7th chords, right?
I really love your playing. And the fact that it is clean without a lot of effects gives the song and the sound of the guitar a chance to shine. Plus, one can’t hide when playing clean. Great job!! 😊🦅🎸👍
I like the approach of using the pentatonic scale as a foundation and reaching outside for chord tones. Much appreciated as always. I've learned quite a bit from you.
Lovely swing time feel there in the intro demo. Thanks for the lesson.
Seth you are such great teacher and player ! This lesson is pure Gold! I have a question, when you are playing over each measure on each chord , how do you always know how many notes to play over each chord .. are you thinking subdivisions or just a phrase for each beat ..? It’s Tough to hear the chord changes going by , I lose track .
@@satchrules101 thanks so much for the kind words! I don't think about the number of notes or subdivisions when I'm playing. I'm just staying aware of the chords as they come up and how much time I get to acknowledge them. The best way to get better at this is by playing only the chords for several choruses. Also, try soloing for 2 bars, then comping for 2 bars, and alternate like that through several choruses. Hope that helps!
Cool and calm teacher.
I’ll save this video for when I think I’ll be ready to learn more about Seventh Chords, please please never delete this video or channel, God bless you
Cool! Chords?
@@williamdillard8330 thanks! sethljohnson.com/pdf-lessons/dance-of-the-sugarplum-fairy-solo-guitar
@sethlojo Thanks
Hi Seth, thanks for the lessons. I’ve spent most of my time on the instrument focusing on technique and sort of skipped deep diving into these topics. Your videos are helping me to navigate the process, and they’re fun too! I realized that I’ve been using most of these, but never quite made the connection between all of them (love how you give us progressions to practice!). I have one question - I’ve always focused only on intervals, not really on specific notes on the fretboard. Do you feel it’s important to know all the notes on the fretboard? Thanks again, cheers!🫶
Hi David, thanks for the comment. I'm very happy to hear that the lessons are helping you. I think that learning the names and locations of all the notes on the guitar is very important. It's like knowing the alphabet. Sure, you can talk without knowing the alphabet, but you'll be very limited in communication.
This bro. Don’t get enough credit for his knowledge and skills‼️👌🏾👍🏾🎸🎸🎸
Thanks so much for this! Can you also do a video showing how you would use scales such as melodic minor, Lydian dominant, altered scales etc over dominant chords?
@@user-rn6cy9lg2m thanks for the comment! this video covers all three of the modes you mentioned: th-cam.com/video/Kxfjzu5KzKA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ALDIJPlXcDAEgE3p
It really works..thanks you.
Thank you so much!! 🎉❤
I simply hear the two sections as a whole! Way much easier for me!
what a tone!
So can these 7th triads only be played in a key of major7? Or can they be used with natural tones too? Thank you for your wisdom boss.
@@macklack8806 these can be done in any key and with any 7th chord.
So can we use these triads when asked too play 9th 11th and 13th chords? Or do we have too keep the A and flat 3?
please make lesson on deep black gospel guitar quartet chord form
nice... thank you as always!
This is very cool. Thank you so much for doing this. Please do one for dominant chords next!
@@user-rn6cy9lg2m the dominant chords one is coming very soon. I filmed the minor and dominant in one video but it was too long so I cut it in half.
very useful

Thanks for this. Great to revisit and relearn this beautiful standard. I appreciate your approach and content - you have a new subscriber!
Nice lesson. Its refreshing to see something melodic vs the speed of light shredding that so many are doing. You guessed it , I just watched a bunch of John McLaughlin videos.
Thank you posting these. Your playing is really smooth and precise, but still has an emotional impact. Excellent! 😊🦅🎸👍
Two questions if allowed: 1. Will this concept be workable over a simple Gmaj chord? 2. If the chord being played is Dominant 7th then can we use mixolydian scale and it's chords for determining and playing upper structure chords? Will this work in blues and rock.
Thanks for the question! First, yes this concept can be applied to a simple G chord, however, depending on the style of music, it may not sound stylistically appropriate. I don't think anyone will throw tomatoes at you for trying it out in blues and rock. To your second question, yes you can do the same process with the dominant, but mixolydian is only one of many scales that contain a dominant chord. For example, you could also use the dominant modes from melodic minor(4th, 5th, and 7th modes), harmonic minor (5th and 7th modes), or harmonic major (5th mode). Hope that helps.
@sethlojo wow thanks a lot a really really good lesson and whole lot to work with. Thank you again.
