This was debunked by Michelle herself in an interview with her daughter Chynna. They had been lip syncing that song for years on different shows and had done it several time on the Ed Sullivan show. She explains that while lip syncing the song, she looked over and noticed a plate of fruit. She was hungry and also was looking for something to do with her hands. It had absolutely nothing with artistic integrity and she made it clear, she was not protesting the fact that they had to lip sync the song, that’s how it was done every time they performed it. It’s amazing what people will believe simply because some stranger said so on the internet.🙄
