There are several good reasons. It requires fewer thrusters and is very fuel efficient. It also provides a satisfying challenge to fly, which I like. You might as well go criticize people that build giant ass ships for no reason.

Flipping the thrusters backwards actually doomed this ship to crash. The way Space Engineers is coded, it tries to split the max thrust evenly between all directions, regardless of how much more thrust you have in one direction. So default 100m/s would be 50m/s up and 50m/s forward. Giving you no real chance to stop slamming into the ground. Its odd like that.
It's just underpowered. This craft uses the Vector Thrust OS script, so SE isn't doing the calculations you describe. The script can be set to not balance thrust like you described, and that's how I was using it at the time. I think the crash was just due to lack of sufficient thrust to overcome the momentum in the first place. 😞
easy fix, fly at 20km
You've got to get low to the ground at some point, and heading straight down provides plenty of opportunity to crash as well. Besides, in the narrative this was extracted from, I couldn't fly very high for risk of getting shot down.

I guess it depends on what you think I'm saying. From your channel, you don't appear to be an SE player -- the closest you get seems to be Minecraft, so maybe you just lack enough context. Or maybe I did say the same thing three times; so what?

event and timer blocks are great for vanilla servers as they will always work. could have a filter and blacklist stone then have another filter pull stone and eject it so only ores are processed. throwing a advanced rotor on and slow down the piston speed will net ya alot more consistent passive drilling
This setup uses an EC and a sensor to control the pistons and rotors -- I just happened to be talking about programmable blocks while I was looking at it. However, the whole point of this method is that you can use higher piston and rotor speeds (generally -- for crazy terrain like this, slower is still better). I have another video explaining how it works. Fwiw, you don't need two sorters to eject stone.

If you have experience programming and you know C#, it's not that difficult, honestly. If you don't know C# or don't know how to program, it's a fair bit more difficult. It also depends on what you want your program to do.

Depending on the server you are playing, PCU limits and such. When I play on officials I never have enough PCU to have both vehicles, and with top tier grinder/welder its quick and efficient. But we each have our own styles!
That's a really good point! I never think about PCU. Even when I'm on servers, I never hit the limit so I don't think about that. Thanks for commenting with this perspective! :D
I agree that planning to reengineer a ship over and over is a poor use of time, but sometimes you gotta redneck a solution with whatever you've got :D
