St Barthelemy Training Rwy 28 HD 720p
มุมมอง 5K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I am training to land on runway 28 at St. Barths, TFFJ. Although not as "iconic" as the dive to runway 10, this approach is very difficult with no straight in to the threshold, and gusty, shifting tailwinds. I made a rookie mistake by not compensating for the push as I turned to final.

Back 30 years ago when I flew the Alaskan Bush (we didn’t have Go Pros ) a most of the places we landed were one way, no pavement , sand bars, gravel bars, tundra or sides of mountains. It was hair raising ,but exhilarating after you successfully did a difficult one. Thanks for you video . For a first time there that was pretty good.

The C210 is such a lovely airplane, i got some left seat time in one with a friend who had one. I see you parked beside the Sandals jet in Bahamas (@9:03). Greetings from Montego Bay Jamaica the home base of Sandals.

Thank you for uploading this and leaving yourself vulnerable to criticism in the comments section - it's easy to leave the unflattering footage on the cutting room floor and only post successes, but nothing beats authenticity and honesty. Looks like a tricky approach, happy to see you got the airplane on the ground in one piece and got it stopped with room to spare. I'm coming up on my Private checkride currently, and these dudes would draw and quarter me if I had the courage to upload footage of some of my touchdowns. Blue skies and tailwinds!

Thanks for your gracious comment. One of the reasons I posted it was to be just that, vulnerable. Too many people hide behind their keyboards and point fingers, and haven't walked that mile in my shoes to see the obstacles I've had to overcome to get to this point. Never in my life had I ever dreamt that I'd have the opportunity to fly my very own airplane to St. Barths, that was an accomplishment enough for me. Not getting the landing perfect is just fluff.

I am relieved that your nose gear held and you didn't have prop strike. Looks like a minor thing, but once I also had a touchdown slightly before the paved surface (at another, more forgiving location), but it delivered a quite a loud blow to the main landing gears and violently shook the entire airframe. As it was a touch-and-go, we glanced at the shadow of the climbing aircraft, checking that we haven't lost any of the wheels after becoming airborne again...

@@SethBlumenthal26c gear door removal was fairly common mod on 210’s. Cost a knot or two and added a little noise but eliminated issue of non opening doors. Had that problem once myself due to a tripped breaker. Figured it out and reset it. Great to see the gear come down! Picked up a buddy and headed to Little Rock without saying anything to him!

Beautiful filming! I love this plane too! Great job! If I may give a small critic, as a flying enthusiast viewer & filmmaker myself I would avoid over editing and leave certain shots longer, especially key moments like touchdown. Personally I also prefer to hear plane sounds, ATC etc. Music could come and go, but I would not keep it wall to wall. But like I said, beautifully filmed & put together. More please!

    • @amandablaise2112

I would agree. Great flying, but way too many choppy cuts in your editing. I think near touchdown you had like a dozen cuts in just a few seconds. Great work otherwise.
