Jesus' Return: watch & be ready
Another Ask Pastor Rick video, where Rick McKee of Redemption Chapel takes a crack at answering questions from our congregation for our congregation.
This video covers: When will Jesus return? Are there signs? Can we know? What should we do? What does it mean to watch & be ready? Basically, I break down Matthew 24-25.
The big idea:
Jesus is coming back; we just don’t know when. So, we should be ready by watching our lives, not watching for signs of his return.

What's missing from your life? What if the thing that your soul craves, the piece that is missing, what if that is a relationship with God. Not a religion, but a life-changing connection with God. How can you open the door of your life to God? This is a remake because in the older video I looked younger and in better shape. Thus, this video is more honest, more authentic. www.thedoorvideo.com

    Brother luther was a mess and brought a mess to the church. It brought easy pass by faith alone. He doesn't want to do the job. Why did he trust the church to give him the bible. I hope I help. God bless you.

    • @pastor-rick
      @pastor-rick 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He didn't want to attempt to do the job that we simply couldn't and only Jesus could. That's what the New Testament clearly teaches. Of course, I would venture to guess that Dr. Luther's personal holiness was greater than yours. Certainly greater than mine. And the church at that time was already a mess - rampant sin, prostitution, simony, etc. But, you could just buy an indulgence and do the sacraments, and no big, you'll be fine. Luther said nope. So, I believe it is a straw man argument to say that Luther just wanted an "easy pass." And Luther was used by God, not to bring a mess to the church. The mess was there. He wanted to reform the mess (hence, "reformation" or "reformed"), but the church/pope was unwilling (hence "protestant" from protesting). Do you have historical facts to back up your claim that "Luther was a mess"? If you want to dig more into the actual history of it, you may enjoy this sermon series: redemptionchapel.com/sermon-series/?vidset=/groups/585554/videos&series=The%20Five%20Solas

    “Bible” man written. Let me ask you this. Does god wants you to be happy? Those who were born to be that way, they can’t change of who they are. If god spoke to you in person as a proof that being different and is wrong. Then record it in a video for me to believe. To me, god wants everyone to be happy. Because of people like “you know who you are”, that’s why there is hate around the world. Kids were born never to be bully because of someone is different. They were taught to be bully because of you. I believe in god but I don’t believe in your beliefs.

      Joe, that makes me sad. I'm sorry. I hope this for you: That you would experience Jesus as the risen Lord who died out of love for you. I pray that you won't let any identity or sexuality hold you back from considering Jesus. He's amazing. Sadly, we, his followers, are often not amazing. That's why I need a Savior. My identity as a Christian is an admission that I'm a broken human who needs the forgiveness of Jesus. Homosexual or not, I believe you need that forgiveness too. I pray that you won't let the brokenness of your religious relatives hold you back from encountering Christ. Wishing God's best on you and your spouse.

    I think it's always hard when our heroes (especially our heroes of the faith) have glaring flaws. We shouldn't be surprised or crushed to find out that many of them have/had some fatal flaw that is gross or hurtful or disappointing. I appreciate your balance here - I can respect Martin Luther for rediscovering grace and leading us into reform but I can also acknowledge that he had some ugly sin in his life like racism. Thankfully our Lord is NOT flawed and HE is the object of my faith and worship. Thanks for tackling this one for us!

    Not sure I agree with you Pastor Rick, but I respect your opinion and wisdom on the topic. I believe the act of going to a wedding ceremony is of itself an act of celebration. That is what a wedding ceremony and reception involves. Even clarifying it to the person getting married that you aren't there to celebrate isn't enough in my eyes. Likely hundreds or more people will see you there and some might get the idea that by being there you as a Christian believe it is something to be celebrated. I think you can show grace in other ways, but In my view attending feels like too much of a compromise position. Not to mention I would be deeply saddened by the celebration of sin as everyone around me shows support for the marriage.

    If women have to be silent why did MacArthur invite Joni Tara to speak at his conference he called strange fire? Maybe MacArthur does not believe that women have to be silent!

    • @pastor-rick
      @pastor-rick 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and commenting. I don't think anyone really believes that women must be completely silent all the time, except maybe some extreme traditionalist and chauvinist. The question is, according to the scriptures (not culture), what platforms/contexts are appropriate for women to teach, and what are not. An egalitarian would say "all." A traditionalist might say "none." A complementarian would say "some." We see some restrictions in 1 Timothy and elsewhere, but we want to be as broad and welcoming as possible, not as restrictive as possible. So, perhaps MacArthur sees the restriction to the pulpit in the assembled worship of a local church, the ordained leadership of a church, or teaching the church doctrine, but not a restriction on a speaker at a conference. I don't really know where he falls on that. But, if that is true, then we should give him credit for allowing Joni Eareckson Tada (I think that's who you meant) speak at a conference. Regardless, as stated in my video, while I hold a position and value it and live it out, my concern with this current issue is one of tone.

  • @branch9422
    @branch9422 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Pastor Rick. Thanks for making this video. This is a dicey one. I am on your conservative side. I have also learned much from Macarthur and esteem his ministry (in healthy and not so healthy ways). I used to go to his church for decades but am somewhere else now. His is truly an amazing ministry...however...I have found many concerns over the decades...I could write a book. I do think he means well...and incredibly loving and devoted people there. But there is the Halloween side to the minstry too....muhahaha. I'm serious, and don't mean to seem immature there...but trying to have fun with all this rather than go break someone's window. Not that i would, i mean like metaphorically speaking as emoticon. The most important thing here I believe I am sharing is: thanks for your heart to share :) Ok, so yeah...i believe Jmac's office as prophet, monarch, and president of Christianity is at stake here (again just having fun). I think Jmac is accountable in what he says because it is like a president of a country. Now I can say, "I think we should bomb Syria, or Turkey, or Russia, or Iran (that last three do have something in common)." But that would be just me saying idiotic things (i don't say that by the way). But if Trump says it...that is irresponsible if it is said like i would say it. So in that way...Macarthur is not as free to say whatever he wants at his conferences because there is an enemy that wants to hurt the Christ who died for him with the use of his own words...and since he is high Christian profile....all the more (all the Moore). Much given/much required. I believe Jmac is wrong for letting that kind of comment filter out into the greater body of Christ. Lack of discretion...and leaning toward a "Trump can say some pretty out-there things." i don't believe Trump is a Christian (or a very very very baby one maaaaybe). But Jmac is the Christian Godfather. There is a different standard. And his is muuuuuuuch higher than Beths. This is not a game (not even a word game). So, John aught to be sober-minded in that respect i would think by now. This is not the first time. I feel like sending a man--whose ministry is about manning up the body of Chris--to his room. Its great to go camping, have marshmallows and get silly. But at a conference? I would liken it to leaving the restroom door open while in use. Kind of tacky...but people getting hurt is tackier. However, Beth Moore. I think she is adorable. I have fun watching her. She looks like a lot of fun to hang out with. That would be an unforgettable day. I don't really know all that much about her either Pastor Rick. It is touching though how she does inspire ladies. But i do have a concern with her. It is not over whether she should preach or not, or whether sign gifts are for today. I am conservative and cessationist. But I am open to considering how others are understanding their experience in the body of Christ. There is just one thing to me that is a gapping tell. There is a huge ecumenical bent in the church today...and from what i see it is like 80% of all churches including Macarthur's. That is the direction we are going so this may seem small and insignificant in the Christian climate we find ourselves in, but....Beth had a vision that the catholic church is a part of the body of Christ. Now I do believe that there are some in the catholic faith that are saved (but in spite of not because of). We live in a time where the pope is wanting to have Muslim, Christian, and Jewish religions united under the papal umbrella. Perhaps we won't see this in our lifetime. But his desire has been expressed and he has been actively pursuing this. So if that is the way the world is going...why would God want us to follow an antichrist agenda in the church? I am not biased against Catholics. If it were not for the word of God, I would be the pope's frontman. But we are to love Christ more than Moore. And yet, I don't think the church has the awareness level today to deal with this. But based on that merit...I do not believe this woman (exciting and loving and personal and friendly) belongs in ministry. I don't think she should go home. I think she should be loved and cared for and about and also rebuked publically and strongly for false prophecy. It is something that can hurt her soul and the churches'....and maybe even Jmac's next word game. Well I wanted to end it in a particular manner to underscore the soberness of our times. It does look like Christ is standing right at the door Again, thanks so much for your heart. And your gracious Christian spirit pastor. God bless.

    1st.Macarthur did NOT say anything uncharitable...and if you think he did...then he is in good company along side Jesus as He spoke to the scribes & Pharisees...John Macarthur spoke what the scriptures are saying about women in the Church...and as always ….I believe he was standing for the word of God.....if you disagree,...you are outright denying what Corinthians says.....and lets really face it guys....You have all been swayed by a cute little blonde....If she had been an ugly fat girl.....all you men out there that are opposing the word of God as Macarthur preaches ...would be irate over it and in the same 'camp' as John Macarthur....just goes to show how truly sanctified & mature Macarthur is compared to the ones cheering Moore on as she denies the very words of the Holy Spirit....I am saddened that the Holy Spirit is grieved over the fact that men that name the name of Christ would fall under the spell of Beth Moore.....You should all be ashamed of yourselves!!!!!...

      When Jesus addressed the Pharisees, he was in a direct interaction with them, and they were against Jesus, against Christ's ministry, preventing others from going to him, denying his identity, etc. It is a mistake to take the model of how Jesus directly interacted with the Pharisees and apply that to how we should speak about a sister in Christ. It's a sad, immature, and unhelpful tone that sometimes emanates from some corridors of Christianity: be mean and fight everyone that doesn't agree with me 100%. That's not helping the testimony of the gospel. Wow, just watch the comments on social media, from Christians. It's sad. Not at all displaying the fruit of the Spirit. The Bible instructs the older women to teach the younger women. I'm not terribly familiar with Beth Moore's ministry, but my understanding is that teaching women is like 99% of her ministry. Why would I want her to "go home?" Now, if she is starting to preach from the pulpit during Sunday services to men & women, then, yes, I would disagree with that. But, I can do it graciously. You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Or you can do it your way.

      Hi Been. Thanks for your thoughts I think yours is the funniest comment i have read on this issue. I say that because it starts off theological and technical and then gets playful. Thanks for the chuckle. Ok, so I would agree with Rick that directing something to Beth...like..."directly" would be a part of the way to do this. But what is most important is to speak with SBC leadership and come to a helpful understanding. I realize this was a private conference that is leaked. But Jmac is accountable for what he says that does leak because his standing is huge and impactful. Much given, much required. As far as Beth, well...we can't really say anything to her because to be honest she is just too hot and cute. But if there is anything to say to her publicly, I don't think it should be about her preaching (that is secondary). I think it should be confronting her about a vision she had that the catholic church is a part of the body of christ (easily googled). You don't need to go any further. Because of that, i would deem Beth not to be Christian. God does not give visions to His children that are a part of the pope's ecumenical agenda (who currently also wants to unite Christians, Muslims, and Jews under the papal umbrella. As for Jmac, well i have learned a lot from his ministry. And I can see his exegetical style (about a good solid 60% is top-notch) But his take on the number of the beast and how that was handled causes me great concern about how the man thinks. Its fine to have an opinion. It's fine to be misunderstood. But the way it was handled on his end escalates it beyond an opinion. I would think mature Christ mindedness would be able to help the body dynamic digest all that with the (Rom 12:18) spirit. But it does seem like the "ministry" perspective and over consideration thereof has been a bit too honored on that side of the street. So i see Beth sees visions not from God...the body eats it up...Jmac plays word games to rebuke...and the pope is busy forming a one-world religion. Guess what time it is?

      Hmmm, since I have nothing against holding hands, game shows or conferences, I don't really know how to respond. Thanks for watching and commenting, though.

    Great response! Thank you for your well balanced and humble attitude. I have respect for both Moore and Mcarthur. But this ganging up on Beth Moore lately has really been disheartening to me. As the reformed movement grows and the new uprise in it, the more I've been seeing unloving behavior like this from Mcarthur and the others. I also see an issue no one seems to be accounting for and that is the fact she isn't a head pastor. She's a women's bible teacher than has become popular enough that some of the men would like to hear what she has to offer. This is complimented teaching only, not these mens sole leadership nor their headship. I see many reformed women teachers such as Jen Wilkens teaching behind a pulpit in the very same fashion and yet there's no outcry for women like her. I agree. This is solely a spiritual fruit issue (or lack thereof) and I see blatant bearing false witness going on against Beth as well. It's shocking to me.

      @@bobbyrobby3600 I agree with this Bobby. However, I am going to address this issue with fervor in an alternative direction. Please consider the below. This is totally like an alternative news source view of the issue. I support your claim Bobby....but there is so much more on the table as I understand it that I believe are potentially larger than how we may be currently arguing all of this. HERE GOES: I think the church at large has kind of been dupped. Although Macarthur set the tone for church debate, I sense that his line of reasoning in the state the church is in today is kind of like so 20 years ago. I understand God's truth does not change...so it is still relevant. But I honestly do not see (as I do respect the ministry of Macarthur) that discernment ministries are wisely discerning the times. There is a difference between defending God's word and how that most wisely and exponentially helps bring clarity to a land. If Jmac were president of Christianity, then his lean toward the issue being about women preachers makes sense because he would have governing power structures in place to support the argument and shore up the fringes of the argument. But to just throw it out there in today's church climate (although gets social media buzz and churches talking) is kind of anti-Voague to the centrality of the issues in the church today. By anti-Vogue, I don't mean that Jmac is not fashionable or that the church is a social media fashion show now (although seemingly in ways has become), but what i do mean is that very few people following Beth Moore will understand Macarthurs claim outside of their Social Justice filter (an obvious and massive influence over the SBC). The real issue with Beth Moore is her vision that the Catholic Church is a part of the body of Christ. Beth doesn't get a pass on that because she is trendy and cute. That did not come from God. In that sense, her impressions from God are running amuck amongst the church--why let it/and how to stop it? The way I see it Beth Moore is a stewardship of the discernment ministries (DM). DMs don't seem to be doing very well with that. Beth's support is on the rise. And claims from DMs that codify Beth supporters Social Justice convictions (that Older White Males are the oppressive problem) is not good stewardship. God gave the discernment ministries Beth Moore to deal with. Honestly, how have they done? Are we just reducing discernment down to social media sides making the important work of how the souls in the church are affected on par with Facebook media buzz sound bites and likes? Where is the trench work other than pontifications from ivory towers...and how does that enforce the stewardship over Beth Moore? We all know that from this event, Beth wins publicly. Why would we shoot ourselves in the foot defending issues (that although are true) have antithetical mitigating consequences? And how is that discerning....and how is that wise? DMs discern like Freemasons? Only the enlightened initiated--those who realize women are not pastors and preachers over men--will benefit from DMs? If that is how DMs operate, is that not feeding the narrative of prejudiced elite thinking is the problem...lets go make reparations, change genders, and do away with offensive math. Because, to a Social Justice mind, having an elite club that pats itself on the back of how much it knows about the right will of God while leaving literally millions to cluster tighter to Beth kind of looks like Freemasonry to me. I don't think Macarthur is. But by his own standard of Lordship Salvation, should he not bear recognizable fruit fitting for the discernment of the times? James 2:12-13 -- "So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty. For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment." And mercy triumphs over favoring those inclined toward truth more easily. Sacrificially and humbly approaching the difficulty of dealing with this issue in the trenches, I believe, is the real fruit. Not a word association game with a disclaimer. Also, "Go Home" can be understood as a "barefoot and pregnant" colloquialism. But Macarthur is noted as a man of the bible. So the statement from 1 Cor 14 "let them ask their husbands at home," seems to be where this statement is borrowed from. But that is not a verse about not preaching. Its a verse about not asking questions in the church (adding to the confusion) during a 1st century time when the revelational prophecy was still being given (they didn't have the full counsel of God yet--thus the "many" questions). It has to do with being silent in the church but not in respect to preaching to other women. 1 Tim does...but that is not the referent. I just believe we are setting ourselves up as a church to be satisfied with lines of argument when the hour might be so much later than that. Just a thought. God bless.

      Yes, you're right on that reformation. I agree. But the Calvinist have taken over that term and generally these days when you see the word "reformed", that implies Calvinism. But I do agree with you. Personally, I think reformed in general is does not describe many... unless they were believing in Catholicism and reformed from that. I would consider myself an originalist... believing in the original word of God from the beginning of my walk. But I've never reformed. I was never a catholic.
